2015 - Ndamukong Suh

EddieNYG : 10/21/2014 2:41 pm
With the Cowboys building this dominate OL, we need to revamp and build another dominate DL.

A couple of weeks ago, there were reports that Ndamokung Suh is interested in playing in New York next season when he becomes a free agent. I don't see the Jets who run a 3-4 signing Suh when they have Richardson and Wilkerson. We are the perfect fit for him as we run a 4-3 defense.

The Giants will have the cap room to re-sign JPP and go after Suh. That's before extending Eli Manning, which frees up even more money in 2015. Remember when the Giants went after Albert Haynesworth in 2009 when they had Tuck and Osi and Kiwi on the DL. It's not like the Giants can't afford a superstar player or two on the defensive side of the ball.

Our defensive line needs a jolt. Our defensive line is above average right now, but it would become elite with an addition of Suh. Hankins and Suh on the inside, with JPP and Moore out the outside. Re-sign Ayers and we are set along the DL.

Adding Suh, should be priority number 1 in the off season. Heck, there are already reports out there that he wants to be here. Make it happen, Big Blue!

BTW, Suh can wear #93 like he did in college with JPP wearing #90.
to much money

in the Dline to make that happen.
I agree, but
NYG007 : 10/21/2014 2:46 pm : link
is Suh a changed man or still the same scumbag he was 2 yrs ago? Thats not a Giants type of player, if he is the latter.

If he has grown up, sign me up
also Jets

It's not difficult.
If he makes it to FA, go get Mike Iupati

Just do it.
Suh next to JPP and Hankins would be great
NY-Fan : 10/21/2014 2:54 pm : link
I would have no problem with going after him. You can always work around the salary cap.

Let's see what we have in Bromley first,

before we break the bank for Suh. We also need to focus on getting better players on the Oline too. Let's put those resources there.

Very true. He's not a complete, meaning elite, player.

I'm not sure what SF's cap situation is, but it's hard for me to envision them letting him get away if they can afford him. Their line is not in great shape right now. Losing him would be another hit.

we drafted DTs. But i wouldn't mind suh. I want to LOAD up on the DL via draft an FA next year.
is it even realistic to sign both jpp and suh

If the Giants are going to pay for Suh
Patrick77 : 10/21/2014 3:18 pm : link
They might as well franchise JPP and trade him for a boatload of draft picks. No way to pay both without continuing to trot our subpar players at a variety of positions.

I remember when the Giants had Tuck, Kiwi and Osi and they went out and offered Albert Haynesworth in the 2009 off season an $80 million contract. So it's not unrealistic, IMO

Have they redone Kapernick's contract? If not that might eat up some of their cap space there.

They are already on the list of good byes: 34,33 and 32 y.o when next season starts.
Would he look good in Big Blue? Yes.
? is: can NS not hurt team doing something stupid?

That's are big question mark.

JPP better realize he's 'Osi' more or less and will be offered accordingly here. But I have to believe if we did get NS, he may be willing to take less salary and more production bonuses that he could get with NS and JH on the line.
Cant do it... No big FAs would sign with the Giants with TC as HC
GloryDayz : 10/21/2014 3:44 pm : link
Nobody wants to play for TC ;)

Sorry I know thats an old one, but had to throw it in just for the neck of it.
From what I understand Suh is big asshole w/ opponents, but...

not a problem in the locker room (teammates like him), and has no off field issues

Yes, Kap got a new deal this past summer. Looked big on paper but it's quite team friendly. The hit isn't too big early on and he has to stay healthy and continue to play well in order to get most of the money because SF can basically cut him at any time after this year and be off the hook if they wanted to.
Suh
eleven : 10/21/2014 3:57 pm : link
Is a game changer. Will make that entire line better.
If it is possible to retain jpp and sign suh
NewYorkGiants : 10/21/2014 4:09 pm : link
Then they must. It immediately makes this defense so much better
Jpp Hankins suh moore would be fantastic moving foward. And we can finally start to get some real pressure on qbs weekly

The big thing is it would be great to have going forward to help us in division having to deal with the Cowboys oline and Eagles oline
If
DG_89 : 10/21/2014 4:28 pm : link
we can get both Suh and JPP to agree to cap friendly deals that still pay them good money I'm all for it. If the Jets didn't exercise that 5th year option on Wilkerson I'd say steal him like we did McKenzie. Suh and Hankins starting with Jenkins and Bromley as back ups. That looks like a good DT rotation. On paper anyway.

The only way I'd be against signing Suh is if it jeopardizes resigning Prince in 2016.
Couple things
GiantsFan84 : 10/21/2014 4:50 pm : link
First, with JPP I think you franchise him. I want to see him show up in shape again and get through another year healthy before giving him big money.

As for Suh, his nastiness would be a good thing on this defense as would his talent but I am just not sure I'd want to give out that kind of money to Suh. I'm all for signing him based on talent but I'm not sure that is the best allocation of cap resources.
Suh

Suh
stretch234 : 10/21/2014 5:56 pm : link
He will finish a 5yr contract in which he just made 65M over those 5 years including 23M guaranteed. He is going to get a 5 year deal and it will be in the neighborhood of 80M - his guaranteed number will go up - 30M

It is not happening

If they were to sign Suh, then Jenkins is probably gone. You're looking at Suh, Hankins, Bromley and Kuhn.
I'd be shocked if NYG offered AH $80M
JonC : 10/22/2014 1:22 pm : link
Remember, that came from AH. At the time, I'd heard $40M+ was accurate.

Either way, I'd be shocked if NYG offered Suh market money. 4-3 defenses require pass rushing DEs, that's where the big money is spent, and they can't spend big on every position.
And it's true, NYG needs a lot more than one player
JonC : 10/22/2014 1:23 pm : link
to move the needle, especially on defense.

I think it's possible only if the Giants up the guarantee and lower the overall size of the contrct.

Ask yourself if you'd rather pay antrel/kiwi/jenkins 10-15m a year or give all of it to Suh.
Iupati
BigBlueCane : 10/23/2014 5:50 am : link
is starting to deal with concussion issues. I think I would avoid him during FA.

Suh is more likely to be a Jet.
DT Stephen Paea
EddieNYG : 10/23/2014 2:58 pm : link
If it is too expensive to sign Suh and JPP, what about Bears DT Stephen Paea? He is 26 years old and is having a big season in Chicago.

Maybe instead of signing Suh, Paea at DT along with KJ Wright at LBer and we address two big areas of need in free agency with two players entering the prime of their career?
Link - ( New Window )
Stephen, haven't been following Chicago closely
David in LA : 10/23/2014 3:01 pm : link
has Paea been playing well? I thought Chicago was very middle of the pack in run defense.
Paea was the DT I wanted when they picked Austin
JonC : 10/23/2014 3:10 pm : link
He was rumored to be a well-known NYG target before injuring his knee the season before he was drafted. I'd look at him, and other players NYG had heavily scouted pre-draft (think RT's too).
As for LBs
JonC : 10/23/2014 3:13 pm : link
I'd focus on MIKE options first. Kennard's going to get a long look outside, but I'd search to replace JW.
Have to think the Giants
mrvax : 10/23/2014 3:16 pm : link
will be challenged to spread the $ around to upgrade as many positions as possible. I'd rather sign 2 eight million dollar guys than one 16 million non-QB player.
