Remaing Schedule - Giants need to win 2 of the next 4

armstead98 : 10/21/2014 3:38 pm
This thread is only for those who haven't written off the playoffs just yet - if you have please move along.

Looking at the standings, 10 wins is going to be required to get into the playoffs, it might even be 11 but you need 10 to have a chance.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

Colts
@Seahawks
49ers
Cowboys
@Jaguars
@Titans
Washington
@Rams
Eagles

Assuming a sweep of Jags, Titans, Washington and Rams that means the Giants need to win 3 of the remaining 5 games. To even give themselves a chance that means they need to win at least 2 of the next 4 games against some tough opponents.

The good news is that all of the teams are beatable. The Colts are playing well but are beatable. Seattle is banged up and vulnerable. The 49ers aren't world beaters and the Cowboys are good but beatable at home.

The Giants haven't looked great but the schedule is favorable. Unfortunately they're backed into a corner with little room for error. The season is make or break when they come back from the bye.
Solid logic, but not sure 10 gets them in

If somehow they do turn things around and make a run good chance they will be battling with Detroit and Arizona for a wild card spot, and they lose tie breakers to both. I'm not sure 10 wins gets them in. I really think they had to win one of these two against Dallas or Philly. Lots of games left and you never know, but odds are definitely stacked against them.
1) How can you "assume" they beat ANYBODY?
Victor in CT : 10/21/2014 3:56 pm : link
2) They needed a split of the PAST 2 games. Splitting the next 4 (a low probability outcome) leaves them at 5-6.

Every team is beatable
Gman11 : 10/21/2014 4:00 pm : link
A lot of us thought the Eagles were beatable because of a lousy defense and injuries in their offensive line.

Look what happened.

Winning against teams like the Rams isn't a given. The Redskins are always a tough game. After all, those teams are looking at their schedules and saying that the Giants are beatable.
I don't think you guys are following the OP

he's not saying this is some lock to happen - he's saying that's what HAS to happen.

May not be likely, but it's not impossible.
im thinking 11-5
YorkAveGiant : 10/21/2014 4:18 pm : link
10-6 at worst. just not sure where that 1 loss comes from. im feeling VERY good about the next 4, 3 of which at home. if i had to guess on the L's its the @seattle and home philly game as the stumpers.
Think the other must wins would have to be Dallas & Philly
Watson : 10/21/2014 4:18 pm : link
Tough go but would be happy if the last game was still meaningfully.
I think the back 5 games of our schedule
Matt M. : 10/21/2014 4:25 pm : link
are what makes this worth discussing. I think they easily could walk away from that string 4-1. Anything less and this conversation is moot. On the flip side, they can do no worse than split the next 4 to even make the back 5 relevant, in my opinion.

I think we need to win our next 3 home games, before the schedule eases up.

All 3 games will be winnable. And if we do, we head into the stretch on a roll and with inferior opponents coming up.

It's not over yet but the time is now. No more margin for error.
they need to win
dontboobigblue : 10/21/2014 5:21 pm : link
2 of 3. Get to 5-5 with a huge game at home against the cowboys to get to 6-5.

This team is probably not making the playoffs with 10 wins. I think 11-5 is the target.

Need to sweep
bignygfan : 10/21/2014 5:45 pm : link
the Jax, Wash, Rams, Titans stretch but need to get there with a shot.

We haven't lost to a bad team yet, that's for sure but that's why our record is where it is and those four teams are where they are.
I would argue
dontboobigblue : 10/21/2014 5:52 pm : link
the cardinals with drew Stanton were a bad team.
when drc and beason
SBlue46 : 10/21/2014 5:55 pm : link
Go ir...we wont beat anyone....also Jenkins wont play
4 games...he'll get injured again...hope Reese
has a plan...
Bottom line: They really need to win 3 out of the next 5
NYGmen58 : 10/21/2014 6:03 pm : link
to have any real chance.
11 wins
dcgiantsfan : 10/21/2014 6:07 pm : link
I believe we would need to get to 11 wins to get in. It's a tall order for this team, especially considering how banged up they are and the lack of control on both lines of scrimmage. If they are going to do it, I think the Oline and Dline must get it in gear quickly!

Here is my optimistic scenario
Patrick77 : 10/21/2014 6:07 pm : link
Colts Loss
@Seahawks Loss
49ers Win
Cowboys Win
@Jaguars Win
@Titans Win
Washington Win
@Rams Win
Eagles Loss

I really doubt 9-7 gets the Giants in the Playoffs. I also question if the Giants are a mentally tough enough team to lose 4 in a row and then come back and beat teams like the 49ers and Cowboys. I see at least 3 more losses coming even if I put on the homer glasses. You have to account for an upset in their as well. Wouldn't surprise me if the Rams, Titans, or Redskins beat the Giants.

How about winning the next game and just getting to .500

...
SanFranGiantsFan : 10/21/2014 7:30 pm : link
We go 2-2 in next 4 and I think we can make things interesting.
Philly and Dallas are
giantgiantfan : 10/21/2014 11:35 pm : link
rolling, we are likely playing for a wildcard spot. Really the Giants need to win the next 3 out of 4 games and be 6-5, falling too 5-6 means they have to win their last 5 to get to 10-6.

At this point we are hoping for a Giants late season miracle run. Coaches have some decisions to make for that to happen. I believe they need to open up the passing game. Eli has been accurate and hasn't had the unfathomably weird tipped interceptions. Let him carry the team.

Colts game looms big, 3-5 is not appetizing. Read from the Book of Eli Coughlin.
The encouraging part about the Dallas game
David in LA : 10/22/2014 12:12 am : link
I thought we could have beaten them, or at least had a real chance if we didn't commit so many penalties in the 2nd half on offense. Dez Bryant had an insane 2nd half, but we were without DRC for most of the game. We can hang with these guys, and beat them next time we see them at our house.
I can see the Gmen winning 3 of the next 4,
go-big-blue : 10/22/2014 7:09 am : link
Then lay an egg vs Jax, come back with 3 in a row just to tease us again, and fall short vs Eagles last game of the season, win and in.
2 out of 4 is a must
armstead98 : 10/22/2014 9:33 am : link
I'm not saying that's going to get it done but if the Giants dont do that, the season is over.

Fortunately all four games are winnable and they would be back on track if they can win 3 out of 4.

This next stretch can't make the season but it sure can break it.
LOL this team
Gmen in 2012 : 10/22/2014 9:44 pm : link
Has not won 11 game in 6 years and people think it will happen with this current Giant team. News flash this team has zero shot at winning 8 games let alone 11
