NFT: Islanders-Leafs 7pm Game Thread

pganut : 10/21/2014 3:46 pm
Funny how 2 days off seems like we haven't had a game in a week.

So, some interesting developments in the past 48 hours. Travis Hamonic has had a left side upper body injury that has had him in and out of practice over the past 48 hours. He is optimistic about playing tonight but will be a closer to gametime decision.

Also on the D front, looks like we may well have The Viz back in the fold this evening. "A good chance" he plays, according to Cappy. Having 6 top-four quality defensemen sure is a nice feeling: Boychuk-Leddy, Hamonic-DeHaan, Viz-Hickey.

Grabovski, who initially was ruled not to have a concussion, woke up Friday with concussion symptoms and is undergoing the concission protocols. Looks like he's still a few games away and may be an IR candidate. However, he participated in the morning skate today, so that's positive. If he is out for any appreciable length of time, the Isles may well look into bringing up Anders Lee, who won Sunday's game for BPT with an OT goal 41 seconds into the extra frame.

Some additional prospect notes:
Victor Crus-Rydberg is 2-8-10 in 10 games for Plymouth (OHL)
Josh Ho-Sang is 2-5-7 in 3 games for Windsor (OHL)
Michael Dal Colle is 5-7-12 in 7 games for Oshawa (OHL)

For tonight's game, Halak gets the start in goal. D pairs to be announced later. Probable forwards (note the RW switch on L2 and L3):
89 Cory Conacher 91 John Tavares 21 Kyle Okposo
86 Nikolay Kulemin 29 Brock Nelson 15 Cal Clutterbuck
12 Josh Bailey 51 Frans Nielsen 18 Ryan Strome
17 Matt Martin 53 Casey Cizikas 13 Colin McDonald

First goal prediction: Kulemin, just to stick it to Tronno.

Great news on grabovski

Not looking forward to cmac so hopefully he either comes back quick or goes on IR SK Lee can come up
not a big RTB fan
timintey : 10/21/2014 4:08 pm : link
But still a great album...

Great insight again as well. Thanks. Let's get back on another roll tonight. Not much interest in the baseball game so i'll be focusing on the Isles...

JT continues his onslaught.
not really that happy
5J : 10/21/2014 4:14 pm : link
about clutterbuck playing on the 2nd line and strome on the 3rd.

and still not really a fan of conacher on the top line.

no complaints about the defense or goal tending thus far for me.

wonder when well see CJ in goal again. no back to back games on the horizon
FWIW
pganut : 10/21/2014 4:15 pm : link
JT seems to thrive against his hometown team. In 17 career games versus the Leafs, JT is 8-11-19. Let's keep it rolling tonight.
I would have started Johnson tonight
Mike in NY : 10/21/2014 4:17 pm : link
But I am not the coach. Also with Clutterbuck I think the issue is that Strome was making some boneheaded moves and neither he nor Clutterbuck could really play the LW on the 3rd line to move Bailey to the 2nd line
Will be awesome to see Viz back in the lineup.
Mike from Ohio : 10/21/2014 4:30 pm : link
Hopefully he sticks around for a while.
The Leafs are one of the teams I despise
marbles : 10/21/2014 4:37 pm : link
Disgusting organization, fans, and a complicit media. I want Tavares to keep smashing Toronto, for the rumors the team and local media totally made up about Tavares not wanting to be drafted by the Isles.

Also, Darcy-f@$&*!#g-Tucker ruined Peca's career, and a chance for the Isles to do damage in 1993.

Let's also not forget Tiger Williams in the 1978 playoffs, nearly killing Mike Bossy.

Yes, I have a memory of a hockey elephant.

I want to see the Isles beat the snot out of the Leafs every time.
The rapping skeleton verse too
Dave M : 10/21/2014 4:41 pm : link
Thanks again PGA for the detailed thread again. It looks like Dal Colle is off to a hot start. Was Grabovski placed on IR? If not, who lost their roster spot for Viz?
and what about Kenny Jonsson
Dave M : 10/21/2014 4:43 pm : link
Those scumbags ruined him in the same series. Gary Roberts I think. Not to mention Phaneuf. Maybe dress Boulton So Dionne can run away all night.
that rap make me cringe.
feelflows : 10/21/2014 4:45 pm : link
Did you know they considered having Robbie Robertson of The Band do the rap?

I will be watching the game from my game center at my hotel in China. Yep. I'm a diehard lol.

LGI. First goal...Frans.

pganut : 10/21/2014 4:47 pm : link
No problem.

No official IR for Grabbo (yet).

As for the Loafs, how can you get tired of watching Cairns beat the piss out of Corson, or Bates' penalty shot against Cujo?
hope
feelflows : 10/21/2014 4:52 pm : link
Hamonic can play.. need him against TO.. put some scare into Phaneuf

Da colle is a beast. Didn't love pick on draft day. Love the pure scoring ability.

I'd like to see clutterbuck on first line tonight, protecting Tavares back.
lol
feelflows : 10/21/2014 5:56 pm : link
yep, you really didn't like that pick and I saw you're point.. it was a safe pick!!

I guess with no 1st rounder next year, Snow had to be smart and safe. I think it'll work out.
I kind of view Ho-Sang
JayBinQueens : 10/21/2014 5:59 pm : link
As next year's first even though we got him this year. I really hope he gets his head right and makes it in the nhl
jay
feelflows : 10/21/2014 6:04 pm : link
From what I've read from players at training camp, ho sang has his head on very straight.

On the money with his thoughts on the Dal Colle/JHS picks. Dal Colle was the sure, safe thing and the scouts talk about his hands...will definitely become a top-6 contributor at the next level. But Ho-Sang is the home run, if it doesn't go foul. And from an attitude perspective, so far as feels notes, he is dedicated to playing excellent hockey and his commitment, mental & physical is known by his coaches both at the OHL and NHL levels. So, you're right...he's the 2015 first rounder.

And this from Staple:
Quote:
Hamonic on for warmups for #Isles, Donovan is not. Same 18 skaters as in Pitt, Halak vs. Bernier in net.
And Isles confirm D
pganut : 10/21/2014 6:39 pm : link
Leddy-Boychuk
Hickey-Hamonic
de Haan-Strait

Rats. No Viz.

feelflows : 10/21/2014 6:45 pm : link
I thought Viz was on for tonight.. bummer.

glad Hamonic is OK. Need his toughness.. this isn't an overly physical team lol

Shake it off. We've still had the better of play and need to keep that up.

feelflows : 10/21/2014 7:24 pm : link
wish when there was a bad bounce, we could make a play and stop a goal ONE YEAR
you would think
Fish : 10/21/2014 7:25 pm : link
We would know about that corner.
Puck usually bounces against us
pganut : 10/21/2014 7:25 pm : link
But we did get a few fluky/gift goals from TOR last year.
