Not that there's anything wrong with Donnell, but the few times I've seen Fells on the field, he's looked like a quicker, smoother, more natural receiver than Donnell.
Right? Wrong? Should he get more reps?
I haven't noticed Fells looking superior to Donnell...
in the NFL. He's an old-school TE who is a decent blocker and solid receiver. He doesn't have the athleticism that the modern NFL "basketball player" tight end has and doesn't flash at anything in particular but does everything pretty well.
He's your traditional in-line tight end, not an h-back or move guy that will create a miss match in the passing game but can get open and has good hands. He's proven very reliable.
Quietly going about doing his job when called upon. Seems to be his personality. No crazy TD dance after catch just places the ball on the ground. One of the reasons we are scoring TDS this year instead of field goals. Man is earning his paycheck.
It is hard to compare Fells and Donnell. Fells has many
more years of experience and the benefit of having been coached by a team not the Giants. Donnell is still learning and may develop some skills and improve his technique (or not).
athleticism. He just has to get better at blocking. I've seen some good there and some very bad, but he makes up for some of it as a receiver. He also needs to ensure he has a grip on the ball from now on, as defenders will now try to strip him as well.
Hard to say he looks like a more natural recieve with some of the acrobatic catches Donnell has made.
Glad we have both.

They have done a good job...would be better but a few rookie mistakes figure in.
Before the season started the Intelligentsia of BBI had the Giants with 0 TEs.
