Jack Nicklaus hates to see critics 'hammer' Jameis Winston

“I just hate to see them hammering a 20-year-old kid,” said Nicklaus, whose grandson Nick O'Leary is a teammate of Winston's. “Has he made mistakes? Maybe. But you’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, I think. Not charged and convicted and sentenced."

Yep, said the same thing in a thread the other day. The paranoia, the persecution complex, the self-righteousness....it's all coming together.

Jack Nicklaus did in fact run his comments through the entire FSU fan base before making them. They received unanimous approval.

Thanks for not holding Jack responsible for his comments. Better to make sure everyone who supports FSU is held accountable for them.

Yes, because no other FSU fans

I'm solely basing it off of Nicklaus.

Wow. Thanks for setting me straight.

As I said - persecution complex.

Quite a bit of my family members are Florida State fans, and frankly they're sounding like delusional lunatics lately. Jack Nicklaus' comments are noteworthy because he's got a platform, not because they're out of line with the majority of their fans.
Poor Jamies.

Being accused of: raping a girl, firing a pellet gun at other human beings, stealing crab legs and a beverage, yelling an obscenity in a crowded room at his school. Life just isn't fair. It's the media man, they are out to get him. Those kinds of accusations and the amount of them surely are just coincidence and speak nothing about the great moral character of FSU or Winston.

Way to take the moral high ground Jack Nicklaus.

If Jack Nicklaus

didn't have a grandkid playing on FSU, he wouldn't be saying shit.

Very few people want Winston thrown in jail. Innocent until proven guilty exists in a court of law, not public opinion.

Anderson, SC is about 20 minutes away. 12 mile drive. Gets longer on game days, but yes, not a bad area.

If you want, e-mail me at rsgearh@g.clemson.edu, and I can tell you which hotels to avoid (and which to stay at).

kind of like when you went on a rant yesterday about something being nonsense and calling ND beat writers essentially liars when you were the one who had no idea what he was talking about?

or like you asking "why did the ACC admit they missed the call?" when in fact they did no such thing.

It looks like all 3 of us have taken turns saying something stupid recently.
so
MookGiants : 10/21/2014 4:46 pm : link
then Brian Kelly is a liar I guess when he said point blank that they told him they just missed the helmet penalty.

Got it.
Yes
Mike from Ohio : 10/21/2014 4:47 pm : link
In general, Brian Kelly does not speak for the ACC.
So
MookGiants : 10/21/2014 4:49 pm : link
he made up that conversation that he had with the officials? Yeah, makes sense.

Never mind the fact that you don't even need the confirmation from Kelly to know that they blew the call. All you have to do is watch the video and see his helmet come off to know it's without a doubt a blown call.
I haven't been following this story as closely as Jack has.

you make a fool of yourself when you continue to accept the narrative that was a result of the rush to judge crowd where Penn State and Paterno were concerned.

Have you even bothered to follow the story since then. Have you listened to Bob Costa speak of it, a man whose resume in researching these type of issues is probably better than yours.

Have you bothered to question why the NCAA has dropped the sanctions or learned how flawed the Freeh report was.

Will it make a difference when the President and the Athletic Director are acquitted of any wrong doing. Does it matter that the fine levied on the State of Pennsylvania has been rescinded.

You just keep up your uninformed narrative, but just be certain not to research the story as it has unfolded, because I think you will feel a bit foolish.

The moral ground posters making blanket generalizations about a group of people they dont know. Ironic, eh?

I have no horse in this race. I went to Hofstra. I read these threads for insight in news stories. That being said, blanket insults to people seems a bit amateurish, no? Penn state and FSU fans in this board are also Giants fans. So does that make Giants fans the same?? That's a generalization along the same lines, right??

it is easy enough to say there is not proof that a crime has been committed, but it seems possible, likely even, that there isn't proof a crime has been committed because people connected with the university kept it from being properly investigated and, if appropriate, prosecuted.

Now aside from insisting that they aren't The U, FSU fans have never had anywhere near the sanctimoniousness that Paterno's cultlike following did. But at the end of the day it's a fucking football game, and when football and the money it produces becomes so central to the school's identity that it keeps you from acknowledging the blatantly obvious, you're starting to trend into Penn State territory. And no, it isn't the entire fanbase (and wasn't with Penn State). But it's a large and prominent segment of it.

Doesn't matter the program, once they reach celebrity status the microscopes come out. They all have an accumulation of questionable "athletes" (except Notre Dame, of course.)
You never here about Utah, Wyoming, Minnesota, the Ivy League schools, etc having persons of questionable morality.

I lived right around the corner, within walking distance.

It did close, temporarily, but was re-opened (same name and all) before I left.

Behind a beauty salon and car dealership, now.

That was a fun place.
There was a Giants sign on the wall of The Dugout.
