that guys in alot of trouble...it not like that dude got in a fight in the area...a boxing ref is a state official just like punching a cop....I've seen this several times and every time the fighter went to jail for a good while, got fine his purse plus state fine then banned either for life or several years....if he's not a star like Zab. he'll most likely be black-balled by most state boxing commissions.

FTW.
IMO, Zab should have been banned after he went after Nady.
Also agree with EricJ- seemed weird to stop the fight like that. Unfortunately, that's boxing, and it's something fighters have to deal with without beating the shit out of the ref. Especially in an amateur contest as this appeared to be (where incidentally you get much earlier stoppages than in a pro fight for safety's sake).
Stupid though to attack the ref in the ring like that. Now he'll have to go to anger management classes and publicly apologize and be banned from fighting for a while.
It would have been much smarter to hide in waiting for the ref outside and jump him from behind.
And the ringside trainers (presumably his, not the other guy's, but the article doesn't specify) are suspended pending an investigation. link - ( New Window )
But, that seemed like a very odd stoppage. First, the video picks up with him getting a standing 8 count and he seemed to have all his faculties. the ref lets them fight and he is standing firmly right with the eventual winner and took a few, what seemed like, harmless blows and the ref applies another standing 8. The whole time the fighter had his gloves up, was on firm legs, and seemed to to be OK. Of course we don't know what his face (eyes) looked like or what he was saying. But, I don't see how that fight should have been stopped.

Of course, guys who get hit in the head for a living aren't known for their critical thinking skills.

Sure, he did. Did it accomplish anything other than getting that guy banned from the sport? Nope.
