NFT: Midtown NYC Restaurant Recommendations

Danny Kanell : 10/21/2014 6:05 pm
Ill be staying in Times Square next Mon night for a work convention the following day. I'm making it a mini night away with my wife. Any suggestions on a restaurant within walking distance that will have a decent atmosphere for a Monday night for food and some drinks? Anything but sushi (wife won't eat it). Price isn't a concern.

Not sure if you mean 'not a dive' or you're looking for something semi-romantic.

If you've never been, and you guys can chow down - Churrascaria Plataforma, the unlimited Brazilian BBQ place - is worth having visited at least once before you die.

I've never been but if money is no object, I've heard the Porter House in the Time Warner building is outstanding. There's a ton of restaurants that are supposedly great. Very expensive, but great. Plus if you wanna make a night of it and are into jazz, Dizzy's Club is awesome and has a great view of Columbus Circle behind the band. It's one of my wife's favorite places in midtown...

And Hell's Kitchen has some great places too, as someone said.

If he's going to Columbus Circle I strongly recommend Marea. Amazing seafood.

Used to go there all the time when I lived in Hells Kitchen - pretty small space but nice atmosphere, very relaxed, not loud. There's a small bar up the stairs on the 2nd level with great cocktails, and dinner seating on street level and up on the 3rd floor.

probably get blasted for it but I like Carmine's if you want to be close to Times Square. Could always be a baller and go to La Bernadin which is often on the "best restaurants in the world" lists or Per Se (same deal)

Heh, the best steak I ever had was at the Palm. Not the original one (though that one was VERY good too), the other one on 50th.
Del Frisco's is a 15 minute walk

Esca and Wolfgang's.

Time Square is really not a good area for dining though, but you'd need to give type of cuisine and price range before good suggestions can be made in surrounding neighborhoods.
