Yeah, uh, the guy was following the law. So in this case, the cop IGNORED the law.
Clearly you didn't watch the video and didn't see the part where the cop read, off of his phone, the clause that stated the guitar-guy was allowed to play in the subway.
So your post goes against exactly what you were trying to assert. Nice work there, chief.
How exactly does choosing to not make it a bigger deal than needs be Â
and coming back again the next day to continue business as usual go against the fiber of what our country stands for?
Using a little wisdom and keeping things in there proper perspective instead of needlessly escalating them isn't un-American.
The idea of completely surrendering your rights because an authority is being a dick to you isn't un-American?
Or worse, to stand up for something you have a legal right to do, watch an Officer read aloud that you have a legal right to do it, then still get arrested, thrown in jail, and forced to pay monetarily isn't un-American?
Guy does nothing wrong, cop tells him to stop. Guy points out what he is doing legal, cop comes and throws him in jail cause he feels like it.
Yeah, sounds like Liberty and Justice for all.
Also, if that camera phone wasn't rolling, you absolutely know that guy had no shot at fighting that ticket.
That the dipshit filming was more focused on the battle of nitwits and not the chicken in the short leather skirt - whom he simply pushes out of the frame - lest he miss some genius constitutional argument over bad singing.
would be to leave and never return. Drawing a line in the sand and escalating the situation with one insecure uninformed cop has nothing to do with surrendering your rights and more to do with ones maturity level.
I'll say it again, the situation was simply not a big deal and taking the high road after having proven his point would probably have gone much further in changing the cops views on things than acting as he did.
Now if he showed up day after day and the same cop kept harassing him even after being made aware of the exception to the law then you have an entirely different situation. However if he had left after proving his point I seriously doubt he ever hears from that cop again and is left to sing as he chooses all rights intact and making the bigger impression on everyone involved.
Sometimes understanding the situation and how it relates to the bigger picture is more beneficial.

Do you honestly believe that by submitting and just leaving he was going to change that cop's mindset or opinion at all?
None of this is that guy's fault though, you said it yourself. He was within his rights and this is on the cop. The cop isn't enforcing the law, and is just fucking with people cause he's pissed off.
I get where you're coming from with the whole "is it worth it, turn the other cheek" mentality. And usually it makes sense in most encounters. But it's sad to think that people can get arrested for doing nothing illegal because a cop thought they were disrespectful.
Again, goes against the core tenants of the freedoms we are supposed to enjoy.

And I also don't see how drawing in a line in the sand has nothing to do with surrendering his rights. It's completely surrendering his rights. He's submitting his legal right to do something cause the cop felt the need to make his own rules as opposed to enforcing the ones in place.
But in life everything is not nor ever will be completely fair and pleasant in all situation and it is of little benefit to lose perspective of that and become outraged at every small minded person you may encounter.
If a situation warranted it I would probably be the first in line standing up to police wronging someone and as I mentioned in another post I have done so before and at much greater risk than this nonsense on the tape. The point is this situation isn't anything alarming. The cop made a mistake and he should have been secure enough to laugh it off and be on his way but since he wasn't how best deal with that one individual cop in that moment. It isn't about surrendering his rights just being the bigger man at that point understanding the cop was probably too embarrassed and insure to easily back down. Giving him that out isn't a horrible or weak thing to do but the more secure thing to do.
Like the old saying, know best when to pick your battles.
Didn't you post last week that you were just assigned to resurrect some fledgling sales company?

lol. What, at like 10 PM?
I worked at a Guitar Center back in the day. I sold a lot of shit to a lot of balding, middle aged men who wanted to relive their youth and pretend they were David Gilmour or Roger Waters, dipshit.
I don't like Pink Floyd or classic rock. Most 25 year olds don't. Get the sand outta your vagina over it, you fucking weirdo.

i have no idea what the fuck "engagement" you're referring to. you must have a truly pathetic life to start creating fights with strangers and pretending people on the internet give two shits about you.
plus, i have no clue what you mean by replacement music. are you serious mad that people have different tastes in music? CAN'T SPELL CRAP WITHOUT RAP, AMIRITE FOLKS?
like i said before, you're one sad fucking weirdo. you need a life dude.
why do you keep calling them yuppies? We only see one guy, and he's a musician on a subway platform. Stop projecting.
To be fair though, it is Metropolitan ave and looks like the L train subway station (I think)... probably a couple hipsters in there. Not sure about yuppies though. I always kind of considered yuppies and hipsters to be opposites.
from someone who must be full of such self-loathing, or just such a curmudgeon to have to [incorrectly] label these guys he doesn't know, can barely see
To have grown an expertise in spotting them a mile away. I can smell the Panera Bread on their breath from here.
Calling someone yuppies = self loathing. Got it.
I don't hate them. I just find it incredibly awkward when they are chanting fuck the police. At least half of those people went to private school. Stop the nonsense.

about that "hipster yuppie twig douchebags" who just came from Panera that you know so much about-- as an expert, of course.

pile on? i've come to BBI at times when I was worried sick about losing my previous job and gotten help from the sales guys here. but yea, I'm all about stroking my ego in a thread as dry as linking a CRM with accounting software.
and i don't sell to consumers. I sell b2b.
like i said, you're a sad, old weirdo. you invent internet fights with people, think people give a shit about you, and for some reason get mad when people don't listen to bands that were big 15 years before they were born.
Do yourselves a favor and run away from this thread lol. You are trying to rationalize with trolls.
no idea if you left me out intentionally to imply that I am a troll, but i have never at any point taken a contentious point to simply get a rise or fuck with people on this board, which is what a troll essentially does.
maybe you don't agree with my opinions (probably goes back to some mike brown thread or some bullshit) but I don't come to this board and try to bait people/instigate people into having retarded arguments i.e rocky thompson.
Misguided, but perhaps Steve was right. I respect Steve and apologize if I was too harsh. I'll ignore your little personal jabs and wish you the best in your endeavors. I wish no harm to anyone I argue with ( well,no harm to most of the people I argue with). My fault for not recognizing who I was talking to, you seemed like a veteran to me with your knowledge of Rutgers football.
Mike in Long Beach is irrelevant. A true pile oner, actually a scout for the sheep. Ignore him, he's nobody.
AGF, I am and have always been rocky thompson, I was banned because I hate Yankee fans.
I go further back on this board than just about anyone that's wasn't part of Pete's Corner originally. Hung with posters at camp, welcomed a few into my home and visited others.met my wife at training camp, had my wedding picture posted on the front page. Drove from North Carolina to tailgate with BBI friends and didn't even go to the game.
Most of the people I hung with don't post anymore because the idiots have taken over. The mob mentality has scared most of the intelligent posters off, well, maybe not scared them off but they just don't bother anymore. I won't relinquish what was once a good place. The mob doesn't like me, I don't care, if this was a bar, I guarantee you there wouldn't be as many so willing to jump on the pile.
It all boils down to Yankee fans which I will no longer discuss just thought you should know the truth...

pile on? i've come to BBI at times when I was worried sick about losing my previous job and gotten help from the sales guys here. but yea, I'm all about stroking my ego in a thread as dry as linking a CRM with accounting software.
and i don't sell to consumers. I sell b2b.
like i said, you're a sad, old weirdo. you invent internet fights with people, think people give a shit about you, and for some reason get mad when people don't listen to bands that were big 15 years before they were born.

is a matter of when, not if. You're actually a bigger piece of shit now than you were during your first go around here.
What was his first handle?
His handle was the same before.
no idea if you left me out intentionally to imply that I am a troll, but i have never at any point taken a contentious point to simply get a rise or fuck with people on this board, which is what a troll essentially does.
maybe you don't agree with my opinions (probably goes back to some mike brown thread or some bullshit) but I don't come to this board and try to bait people/instigate people into having retarded arguments i.e rocky thompson.
Bright future, good luck...
