Asshat info

Hey guys , some of you probably remember my thread a few weeks ago about DRC . Well I went to see my guy again and asked him about DRC being banged up right now. He said yeah , it's crazy ...the media keeps reporting it's back spasms , ankle or knee injury and some have said hip. Truth is it's a hip tendon, and the giants medical staff doesn't know what to think about it. It's not torn , there's no swelling and 80 percent of the time it doesn't even bother him. Zero pain! However when it does , his hip literally locks up on him and is very painful. Med staff is hopeful a week off will help , because they really have no answers . DRC told his friend it's like a tooth ache , when it happens he can't take his mind off the pain and then 30min later it goes away and he forgets it even happened ......until it happens again.
good stuff

thanks.
It's been reported its his IT band which makes sense

They are extremely tricky to deal with. Hopefully it's goes away. Typically it is an issue that needs rest to heal.
Yup

He said IT band . Thank you . The friend described DRC being extremely frustrated and a little fearful because nobody has a concrete answers. Seems like med staff is guessing.
Sounds right..

I remember when Smith broke loose in the ATL game and Rolle missed the tackle, DRC had kind of given up on the play and then from about 20 yards back, caught all the way up to him by the time he got to the endzone. He didn't catch him but I remember being like.. "whoa.. DRC is FAST".. and I always knew he was fast but that was one of those times where his speed was really in display. So I was surprised to know that he was even hurt at all at that point because it didn't look that way.

I'm really hoping the week off gets him right. We need him.

Thanks for the info.
I've had the ITB injury and it is
B in ALB : 10/21/2014 8:57 pm : link
not fun. One minute you're walking, running, etc totally fine. In a blink there's an unbearable pain that shoots up your leg and it's like your leg is dead. I've had a hip flexor and ITB. Gimme the hip flexor despite that being way more painful when it first hit. Brought me to the ground instantly. Heard the pop. Done. Both injuries need good treatment which DRC will get and rest which is the most important. The two weeks are huge right now.
What about explaining
Blackbeard : 10/21/2014 9:04 pm : link
to us ignorami what an IT or ITB injury is?
Yep it's itb

I had that injury back when I played baseball. Tried to work through it and could not. Finally got over it with team medical staff, rest, stretching and massage therapy. Took about a month until I felt significant improvement.
it must only flare up

The IT in IT band is an abbreviation for iliotibial. It originates at the pelvis and runs laterally down the thigh, inserting at the tibia. It can become inflamed and be very painful. Treatment is difficult because it is not easily stretched. The most effective treatment is usually using a roller to help stretch it out, but even more importantly rest is needed for the inflammation to calm down. The bye week will be the best thing for DRC, although it can be a continuously nagging injury.
random people on the internet can figure it out
SHO'NUFF : 10/22/2014 12:34 am : link
yet, our million dollar medical staff have no idea what it is?

Thanks. Sounds like something I'm glad I never had.
They know what it is
TampaGiant : 10/22/2014 6:41 am : link
They just don't understand the best way to treat it . It's not behaving like a normal IT band injury and DRC has told his friend it seems like the medical staff has no answers and they are just guessing .
I hade problems with mine a few years ago

The iliotibial band is a thick band of fascia on the lateral aspect of the knee, extending from the outside of the pelvis, over the hip and knee, and inserting just below the knee. The band is crucial to stabilizing the knee during running, as it moves from behind the femur to the front of the femur during activity. The pelvis component also has implications in the lower back.
A battery of physical therapy treatments (rollers-stretching-sonic-hot - cold -pressure points) was used and it worked itself out. Careful warm-up stretches are critical.

You can get spasms and or dull ache /sharp pain over the hip -onto the thigh -on the outside of the knee, and in the lower back above the buttocks on the right side.

Get on the dreaded foam roller, then add lots of stretching and massage into the affected area and finish with an ice pack. Runners like me get this injury from time to time.
Yoga

Tell your buddy to tell DRC to do yoga. Its fairly amazing how much it heals. Especially something like itb.
