Jon Baldwin worked out for the Giants

Jim in Forest Hills : 10/22/2014 8:03 am
Talented but motivationally challenged former Pitt WR. Didn't see a thread.

Now there's a guy who blew it all in a hurry.

His biggest splash as a rookie was a locker room fight. Traded from the Chiefs to the Niners in a swap of WR busts, then beaten out in SF the next year by L’Damian Washington, who was last seen on the Giants' practice squad.

Baldwin failed a physical with the Lions, which deprived him of a chance to compete with Kevin Ogletree - who lasted a couple of weeks as Detroit's last WR before landing on his couch and then with ... the Giants.
No harm in bringing him in.

Obviously a talented guy, maybe being cut has forced him to reevaluate his attitude. It would be an enormous lift if a guy like Baldwin panned out.
Sure

why not, but he's a major head case.

Deserves a 10th chance.
He's big and kinda fast

But his catch radius isn't nearly as good as it should be. Without the great catch radius the lack of separation and crisp route running reduces guys like Baldwin to total crap. Maybe the giants could coach him up...
They liked him during

It appears that the Giants are lost when it comes to finding a WR to replace Cruz. All the guys they have worked out are big somewhat physical WR's but not slot or speed guys. The lack of speed at WR on this team is ridiculous. We need a slot guy Ogletree is not even close to the answer and putting OBJ there is a big risk of our present best or 2nd best WR future. Washington must either be the worst WR in the league or we are the biggest fools watching NFL games. How can this guy not be active over a FA WR signed within 4 days prior to a game?

I still think the best way to solve the WR size and speed problem on this team is a trade for a young WR. The league is full of WR's wasting away as 4th or 5th on teams depth charts. Can we get another Cruz more than likely not but we can't win games with Parker or Ogletree. He could be a slot guy or outside but he must bring real speed with him.
Baldwin is interesting

I say that only because I viewed him when he was at Pitt much the same way I viewed McCoy when he was there. I told my son this kid McCoy is going to be a terrific pro and whoever drafts him will be very fortunate. My kid said you think so? I said watch him run.

Anyway when you watched Baldwin at Pitt what was there not to like. He was tall, hard to cover, speed, made plays after the catch, and caught everything throw his way. He just seemed to have that same mojo McCoy did when at Pitt. I guess he lost the mojo. It's a shame.
