NFT: Home Bar DIY

BoweryBoys : 10/22/2014 2:33 pm
Ive been googling home bar plans and nothing is sticking out. Has anyone built a bar for a man cave and have some good reference instruction material. Not looking to do anything crazy, but would like to have a spot for a kegorator and some draft beer. Thx in advance.
It depends on what kind of bar you want.

Do you want one that looks like a kitchen breakfast bar or one that looks like a bar in a restaurant?

Standard height is 42 inches.

For a kegerator, you can put it on a platform to raise it to that height or put it on the floor and accept the space difference.

I did one on a platform made from 2x6s and a sheet of plywood. I then framed it out to be the same height as a kitchen microwave base cabinet on the platform. I then skinned it with plywood in preparation for stone veneer. I built the top out of oak plywood and purchased bar rail.
have you tried this?

gonna use it? Most home bars simply end up taking space and never being utilized after one or two times. Then they end up being receptacles for storage and junk.
Why not build something more like a "drink access station." Perhaps a nice beer fridge and wine fridge side by side, maybe some shelves above with glassware, some Giants souvenir stuff - cheaper and probably more practical.
