The nice thing about covering female-teacher-rapes-male-student cases is that these cases are widely perceived as victimless, so the media don't risk the same backlash by exploiting the stories that they might encounter if the genders were reversed.

What I am always curious about is what this kid looks like. There are 8 million people in NYC and plenty of single guys. But this 16 year old is a must have for this chick, enough that she risks her entire reputation, career, personal life, and endless embarrassment not to mention criminal charges? Maybe it's incorrect but it seems way more likely that when a man does something like this it's almost definitely some predatory thing but when a girl does this, it has to do with what...emotional weakness? laziness? convenience? She could go to a bar any given night and offer herself to damn near any dude and he'll say 'sure' but she has to have this teenager. Has to have him. It's bizarre.
She also was some sort of high school and college basketball star. Nice job honey, now you're not known for any of that anymore.
Proximity - teachers work in a female dominated profession for the most part, so they don't spend a whole lot of time around men at work (basically the opposite of being an engineer).
I would bet on this occurring plenty over the years, just that there wasn't the attention or the evidence available back then. I know a couple of guys back in HS who claimed to have bagged a teacher, but that was always written off as idle bullshit. Nowadays, a kid can whip out a cell phone and provide some proof.
I don't care how 'cool' it is for a teenage boy to bang a teacher. It's the teachers actions that bother me, they are criminal, even if the kid is willing. The kids are not adults the teacher is the adult and is in a custodial capacity and that's why it's a crime.
And yet this kind of story is still sufficiently rare to be newsworthy. That suggests that the various deterrents - legal, social, professional, moral, etc. - basically work. Clearly, there's an element of recklessness in these rare cases that most people can't achieve, and wouldn't want to. Remove all the barriers - guarantee a "zipless", consequence-free f*ck, and the prevalence would probably go through the roof.

She was prompted to confess after a nude pic she Snapchatted him made its way around campus.
Zehnder was charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student on Monday and released on $10,000 bond. According to the prosecutor, Zehnder first complained to administrators this fall that students were passing around a nude photo of her. The 17-year-old student then admitted to the school that Zehnder sent him the pic in the first place, prompting an investigation.

Sorry, but I call bullshit on this. You're 16 and banging a teacher, you're telling everybody. What 16 year old wouldn't be bragging to his buddies? That's probably how they're getting caught.
