NFT: Follow-up on Running Windows on Mac

DC Gmen Fan : 10/22/2014 4:02 pm
Hey guys/gals;

So after all my research, I've decided to go with Virtual Box for running windows on my Mac. This brings me to my next issue: where can I get a copy of windows 7 for my Mac? I have seen a couple on newegg for about $99 (both OEM versions, 1 is a 64-bit, the other is a 32-bit), but I've heard others speak of getting them for cheaper.

Any advice on this?
'
Thanks
Why?

Just install it using Bootcamp? And it will dual boot. All you need is to partition about 6 gigs for Windows.
Because ideally

I don't want to have to reboot between using windows and OS
You'll have to hunt around on the net for leftovers

Microsoft stopped selling it awhile ago.
Yup

Ask someone with an extra disk. Craigslist. Ebay. Inter-webs.

That is a fine solution though especially if you're going to be doing web testing and stuff or you're going to want to see Mac browsers versus PC browsers etc.
Get Windows from Microsoft for free

You can get Windows 7 Home from Amazon for $99 or Windows 7 Pro for a bit more but why bother ? You can get Windows 8.1 from Amazon for just as little and finally dispense with the Starter version/home version/pro version bullshit. If you really want a deal you can get the Windows 10 beta from Microsoft for free. Just google Windows 10

It's not going to be free forever. Once it's released you'll have to pay for it or will disable itself. For that matter, it may not be upgradable to the release version - you may have to wipe the drive and start over.
