NFT: Islanders-Bruins 7pm Game Thread

pganut : 10/23/2014 4:55 pm
Well, the big news for today...Colin McDonald HAS cleared waivers and assigned to BPT (I know, whew!).

As you know, the 'Ders has been called up, so he plugs right in tonight.

Likely forwards tonight:
Conacher-Tavares-Okposo
Lee-Nelson-Strome
Kulemin-Nielsen-Bailey
Martin-Cizikas-TBD

We have the return of Viz tonight, but are now down a Hamonic. So, the D will likely look like this:

Leddy-Boychuk
Hickey (plus 24 stitches or so)-Viz
deHaan-Strait

Chad Johnson gets the start in net, and Nik Svedberg gets the nod for the Bruins.

Also, below is a link to a nice article in USA Today about my and feelflows' mancrush, Brock Nelson.

Your meters may overload
You can rest at the side of the road
You can miss a stride
But nobody gets a free ride

Good to see the lead. Skating hard tonight?

What happened to Bailey?
just caught up
Dave M : 10/23/2014 8:35 pm : link
Great game so far. The effort is there tonight. Hickey in particular having a nice game. Conacher playing great Defense against Tavares tonight. 3 times he has collided with JT. I like Johnson.
Bailey took a slash on his hand

Good observation on Hickey. Right after jumping into the slot for an offensive chance, he busted it back down ice to break up a play on the defensive end. He's really developing into a nice defenseman, showing why the Kings drafted him at #4 overall.
Bailey

Out for the rest of the game.
I'm stuck
Metnut : 10/23/2014 8:47 pm : link
at work but keeping an eye on the game. Looks like we're controlling the play.

Any thoughts on how Viz and Lee look?
Viz is expectedly a bit rusty
pganut : 10/23/2014 8:50 pm : link
And a bit tentative, IMO, but has done nothing to hurt us. In fact, he's QBing the PP and Boychuk looks to be moved to PP2 (not sure I like that). Lee looks good. Getting that big frame in front of the net and agitating. He'll fit right into the style this team is playing.
yeah Lee's presence is known
Dave M : 10/23/2014 9:08 pm : link
In this game although he hasn't made the shore sheet. Viz hasn't been bad either. Kulemin playing on L1. Just imagine Nelsen on L1. One of the attributes about Grabovski is that he's a good fo guy. Naturally we put him at wing. Why not let Grabovski and Kulemin play together with Strome and put Nelsen and his skill set, which is perfect with JT, with JT and KO?
wow
Dave M : 10/23/2014 9:13 pm : link
How was that not a slash
Would love Nelson on L1
pganut : 10/23/2014 9:14 pm : link
But L2 of Lee-Nelson-Strome is a nice line and Cappy likes having 4 quality centers. Kulemin>Conacher on L1 for sure. Grabbo is the wild card key when he returns. Grabbo-Kulie-Strome was nice to start the season. I never thought I'd say this, but Bailey on L1 with JT and KO would actually be sweet.

No slash call for the whack on Conacher, and now the Bs score?
and naturally
Dave M : 10/23/2014 9:14 pm : link
The Bruins score seconds later

Came to play
Holy shit
pganut : 10/23/2014 9:17 pm : link
Hope all these missed great chances and over skating loose pucks in the slot don't come back to bite us. Thought Kulemin was going to bury that shot upper 90 but not to be.
Damn it looks like we still don't know how to close a game out
BlueHurricane : 10/23/2014 9:22 pm : link

KWhite2250 : 10/23/2014 9:32 pm : link
This team, under this coach, can play a full 60 minutes. I should be happy but that 3rd period was just pathetic
Wow
pganut : 10/23/2014 9:34 pm : link
What an ending...nice win, boys. Johnson is legit. Glad to have Viz back. Could have been more than 3-2 if not for the iron. Hickey had a nice game. D gets better when Hammer is back. Clutterbuck, Fransie and Kulemin in particular had strong games from the forward position. And it was nice to give up less than 3 goals. Keep it going against Dallas.

With Sam boychuk, he notices these lapses every game where we fall asleep. Needs to change.
I won't ever be upset over a win over the Bruins
Dave M : 10/23/2014 9:46 pm : link
A very nice team effort. The Isles didn't chase the puck as often at they've done. Nice effort tonight. Looked nice.
FWIW
pganut : 10/23/2014 9:54 pm : link
One of my buddies from work is a hockey coach in Boston and a huge Bs fan. He texted me a few moments ago to say he thought we played a very good game and that he "really likes the way you guys play".
Dammit

Staple reports Bailey with a broken hand and out indefinitely.
Big road points
Metnut : 10/23/2014 9:56 pm : link
Wasn't able to watch tonight but excited to watch on Saturday.

Looks like a broken hand for Bailey so he'll be out for a while. Sucks because he'd been playing well.

Good win.
Thanks Brettsky

Slide before it spun out of control.

Boston took a big hit last night. Chara expected to miss 4-6 weeks

Grabovski said he felt good after practice today. If he goes through AM skate well tomorrow, he'll play for #Isles vs. Stars.

Bailey was injured by hit along boards, not Kelly slash. Seeing a specialist tomorrow. #Isles are hopeful it's shorter than 4 wk recovery.

Also, lines in today's skate:

Kulemin-Tavares-Okposo; Grabovski-Nielsen-Conacher; Lee-Nelson-Strome; Martin-Boulton-Cizikas-Clutterbuck

I like them lines
May be nitpicking
pganut : 10/24/2014 8:52 pm : link
But Conacher is starting to resemble PMB part deux. Would have been nicer to have retained Skille and to have waived Boulton.
damn
feelflows : 10/24/2014 10:27 pm : link
Didn't know about Bailey until now. He's playing very well.
Yeah...

I intentionally didn't pass that along, so as to not harsh your buzz after the win heading into your flight. Welcome back, comrade.

When I fly Newark, its united direct to shanghai. Still need to leave my hotel 3.5 hours before the flight.

This trip I flew eastern air through Toronto. On top of that it was out of LaGuardia. Sucks. Eh

If Grabovski is back next game, 3rd line? Kulemin 3rd line?/
I think
pganut : 10/24/2014 11:07 pm : link
They like Kulemin's creativity and tenacity combined with the skill of 91 and 21. I'm willing to see what it looks like. However, I think Grabbo could be very interesting with those 2. I could see some sweet things out of that combination. But putting him with Fransie is also a pretty safe place. Nice to have options.
options are great
feelflows : 10/25/2014 11:05 am : link
But having the "grab's" back will help a ton especially on pk.
