NFT: Need advice for buying "Wicked" tickets

Johnny5 : 10/24/2014 12:42 pm
OK I know there are many Manhattanites here that are knowledgeable on this sort of thing. Want to take the fama (2 adults 1 teen and one tween) to see Wicked on the weekend on Nov 8th and I'm trying to figure out the best (cheapest) way to get good tickets. I have been looking at Ticketmaster etc, but figured I'd ask if anyone had any tricks as well as possible hotel recommendations, dinner close by etc.

Thx Doods.

My advise to you is.... DONT GO
It will cost you an arm and at least half a leg.

The link is about as good as you will find on secondary market tickets to sold-out shows. If you move quickly there are 4 at $189.

I can't guarantee that the service is always legit, but I haven't had any trouble.

and she wanted to go to Wicked for her birthday so the 4 of us are going Sunday. I searched far and wide for some kind of bargain. Finally I gave up and dropped like $500 for 4 tickets. I did it through this service at work:
www.plumbenifits.com it linked me to a service I got linked to a lot just by googleing "discount broadway tickets".
was no huge bargain, but a few $ cheaper than ticketmaster. Used to be easier to get broadway discounts, especially with those coupons you'd see all over the place like at schools and Dr's offices. Not really any more. I will say the seats are good- orchestra like 12 rows or so back. problem with broadway is they charge the same price whether you are orchestra or front Mezz so it's no bargain at all to sit upstairs unless you sit in the back of the mezz it's a little cheaper but you can't see real well especially kids.

They announced the tour dates??? Sweet Miracle!
tkts booth
giantfanboy : 10/24/2014 2:29 pm : link
the cheapest way to go is
on the day of show in the morning go to the TKTS booth
usually tickets are 50%

the best booth is actually in brooklyn - there is no line at all

the downside there is no guarantee there will be tickets for the show you want to go to

so the best is to have a few shows you are interested in seeing and then go to the booth
odds are one will be avaliable

Randy that's a good idea, I didn't even know they were having it there.
Never a good idea...
manh george : 10/24/2014 3:32 pm : link
to take a trip to NYC, with a hotel and all, and then rely on TKTS with the expectation that your specific chosen sold-out show will be available.

That's crazy.
Honestly. Skip it.

Saw it in Chicago several years ago because my sister in law said her and my brother in law "loved it!"

If wasn't until later that summer after I sat through 3 hours of that shit -- got him alone on the fishing boat and he said he thought it was just ok. His wife and out mother in law were the ones who loved it.

Typical married life shit you get roped into. My advice -- don't go.
I saw it less than a month ago

I liked it. It wasn't my favorite (that would be avenue Q) but it wasn't bad. The actress who plays Glinda was pretty funny, although she made me wish I had seen Chenoweth. The actress who plays the witch was only okay, IMO. The sound quality overall was not as good as I expected. A ton of little kids there which was fine. I wouldn't skip it but I wouldn't sell a kidney to see it again.
Go to TKTS but not the Times Square
ligmen : 10/24/2014 4:41 pm : link
go to the one in Brooklyn, still get there early but the wait will be 85% less.
I should say if you want another good show to do that
ligmen : 10/24/2014 4:42 pm : link
Wicked is not on there.
Thx for the TKTS advice
Johnny5 : 10/24/2014 5:29 pm : link
Do you need to go there the day of to get the deals? I don't need to stay overnight actually.
Yup, day of.

Oops, sorry...for matinees you can get next day tickets.

.
Its a wonderful show
natefit : 10/24/2014 7:41 pm : link
and your kids will love it. Wicked will never be on TKTS so forget that. Theres a time to look for bargains but a family nite on Bdwy isnt that time.
Thanks Nate

Yeah that's pretty much how I am looking at it.
