Neither team makes a serious effort to win. They just make a few offseason headline grabbing moves to make it look like they're doing something. For the Jets that means signing has-beens and never-was, provided they have a recognizable name. For the Mets, that means signing Yankee rejects. Last year they sign Granderson who is not only one of the worst strike out artists in baseball, he is also one of the worst post season players in baseball. Of course the Mets have very little chance of going to the post season, but I always thought that the idea of signing players was to try and win a championship. Not if you're the Mets. Now they have signed another has been Kevin Long. I can already hear someone like Joe Benigno or someother Met asskisser trying to explain this.
"Granderson hit 40 home runs under Long's tutelage. Now that we have renunited him with Long, he'll become the player we always knew he could be" They may go on about how the Yankees had one bad offensive season and the Long was made the Scapegoat for Cashman's bad moves. They will ignore the fact that the Yankees offensive woes have gone on for four years. Although they were not statistically evident until this year, the Yankees have not been able to hit with men on base, they have not been able to hit to the opposite field, they have not been able to bunt and they have been absolutely silent against playoff caliber pitching. These are the same problems the Mets have been suffering from. Of course the Mets have a dearth of offensive talent, but what they need is a hitting coach who can get the most out of marginally talented hitters. Instead they sign a guy who has gotten the least our of far more talented hitters.
Chill the fuck out.
If they don't do anything this winter to actually improve the team, you can post this then. This is a pretty pointless time to start whining. What teams have already made significant roster moves towards next year when we don't even have a WS winner yet?
They're just bad at it. They did go to back to back AFC Championship games - with Mark Sanchez as their QB.
That doesn't happen by accident.
I'm a Mets fan and I see no similarities except in a lot of cases you find these raging assholes who try and say that only Jets fans can be Mets fans.
otherwise the two organizations are nothing alike except their names rhyme if you count that.
It's the most overrated coaching position in any sport and will have little to no impact on whether the Mets offense in 2015 improves over the span of 162 games.
Really ? Did they impose a salary cap in baseball that I don't know about ? The Mets are perfectly free to spend as much money as the Dodgers to improve their team, however they choose not to. Despite playing the same market as the Yankees they choose to put those revenue sharing checks that they get from the Yankees into their pockets rather than improving the team.
I really don't have any opinion on how alike they are today. But they were somewhat connected originally.
I am not the type pf poster to be openly critical of another because it's not my deal. There are things I am not 100 percent aware of. However, I am fairly certain that the Mets financial issues have been fairly public and written about extensively.
I am free to buy a Bentley. However, I don't have the means to do so.
The Mets are on that track, it doesn't happen overnight, but I don't know how you can't get excited for the future with these young pitchers and the recent emphasis on offensive players. The recent offensive players don't show up overnight, it takes time.
Once again, Ron's philosophy is what got us into the Jason Bay situation. I wasn't even a fan of the Granderson signing, but I think it was low risk enough, even in late years if he is not producing he is worth the price as a leader. Once the Mets are to that level.
I'll remember Ron from Ninerland when things are going good.

The Jets apparantly have a surplus of money to spend while the Mets...ummm do not. A couple of years ago, I joked that the Mets are now the Royals with their lack of spending...how I wish that comes true now!

Enough with the Yankee revenue sharing BS. The Mets revenue share as well. They don't get money, they pay it. Enough of your Yankee fan horseshit mantras that people think are legit. The Yankees spit on the luxury tax and pay free agents like they have money to flush down a golden toilet. Every league revenue shares. God forbid it happen to the blessed Yankees who also charge ass raping prices to get into their museum.
Also Lucas Duda could very well become our Freddie Freeman
Yes.

We need to bring a solid player or two but I don't think Ive ever been so excited heading into a season. I know its not like 87/88 or 99/2000 or even 2006-2008 where we looked great on paper and big things were expected....BUT
After the last 5 years and what a laughing stock we have been, the Madoff situation, and the deep, complete rebuild Sandy put in place drafting high school player after high school player forcing us to be patient, the fruits of his labors are finally here or about to be here. This whole team is bursting with young talent. I don't ever remember seeing so many young studs on one roster at one time at least in the Mets history. Generation K couldn't where this roster's jock strap. The payoff is going to be especially meaningful this time around.
Me too. I like the roster as is aside from an outfielder added. I'd love a big trade for Bautista or something... we have the pieces... But ill take Cuddyer as a consolation prize. A nice middle of the order bat addition and the continued growth of everyone else will give us a nice NL lineup. And our pitching is going to be stupid.
Both Flores AND Reynolds showed they can play SS by the time the year was out. Flores bat was coming around by the time the season ended. He's going to be a hitter. Reynolds is nice depth. Tejada can still back them up. Cechinni is entering high A ball. Unless we can acquire a no brainer upgrade Im fine with leaving the middle infield alone.
