X Eagle retreads

Tark10 : 10/25/2014 10:07 am
A friend of mine told me to count up how many x Eagles were now Giants. It was scary.
1. Cullen Jenkins
2. Mike Patterson
3. Will Demps
4. DRC
5. Dallas Reynolds
This guy has been an Eagle fan since 1966. He said we would regret DRC because he isn't physical and a poor tackler. He made some other comments about this list and he appears to be right. These guys are past their prime or inconsistent.
DRC is an outstanding corner who was playing well until injured...

Jenkins and Paterson were/are part of a decent DT rotation and Reynolds is like the 12th OL off the bench.

Demps is what he is and if Hill wasn't an idiot and Taylor didn't get hurt may not even be on the team.

I don't get the point of your friends comments. Maybe you should ask him how many former Eagles have Championship rings with other teams.
Will Demps

? You mean Quintin Demps?

other than DRC and Jenkins these guys are all meant to be role players and see limited snaps.

Dallas Reynolds has played 12 snaps this year.

LTS loved Demps

I look at corners

similar to catchers in baseball. Catchers are supposed to be great defensive players, who can call a game, manage the staff, block balls in the dirt, and throw out runners. Anything you get offensively from a catcher is a bonus (at least that's the way it was pre-steroids and seems to be going back there again).

Cornerbacks primary job is to cover, take away their man, make a play on the ball in their area. If they are good in run support and a physical tackler, all the better, but that's a bonus. It's on the DL and LB to contain the running game. The best corner that I saw was Deion, and Dave Brown ran him over. Deion is in the Hall of Fame. Darrell Green got trucked by Dave Meggett in a game in 1993, he's in the Hall of Fame too. Elvis Patterson was a physical corner in run support and he was called "Toast".

DRC's injury worries me, but I don't worry about him in coverage.
I don't think eagles fans saw an accurate representation

Of DRC or his talents. I believe he spent a lot of his time in the slot with Nnamdi and Asante outside. He also had an offensive line coach as his defensive coordinator. He was a valued commodity when he was traded from Arizona. He struggles in Philadelphia and than reappears in Denver looking like a top end corner. I think circumstances beyond himself were the reason for his unimpressive Philadelphia career.
Obviously IMO

this front office prefers retreads from other teams to our proven homegrown talent like Linval Joseph. Thats because they are looking for numbers over quality because of lousy drafting over the years.
Well, you scout your divisional opponents

more thoroughly than you do other teams. So it might be that, when the Giants are looking for veteran depth and fill-in type players, they might lean towards the guys who they have a thicker file on.

In the same sentence, bashing the FO's drafts while criticizing them for not retaining their own talent. Good work!
DRC, Jenkins and Patterson

Have been very solid players for the Giants.

It'd be hard to have more wrong in such a short post.

Agree that Dime Time was a great CB. He was a game changer. Such a tool - but a great football player. But if I could have any corner in their prime - that I've seen play - I'd go with Charles Woodson. Precisely because he was a shutdown corner - easily as good as anyone I've ever seen at coverage - but he could also blitz and stuff the run. Woodson always made big plays in big games. I think Woodson is GOAT at CB.

As to the rest - fuck the Eagles.
Your friend is clueless

First off, DRC was amazing in his first year with Philly. It was when Castillo took over as DC and they had DRC playing man-off coverage he got exposed, as did everyone else on that side of the ball that year.

Again, your friend couldn't have less of a clue what he's talking about.
He has some valid points here.

Reese tried the quick fix this year and it didn't work. The Eagles talent is far better then the Giants now. Hopefully, adding new players to both the Oline and Dline will help next year. I think we should have kept Joseph to team with Hankins. Jenkins would have provided quality depth.
