I'd probably say like 4 million too high for McCoy. He is an awesome player though. The problem is the agent throws out the 98 million to make himself look good. Meanwhile McCoy will probably never see anything near 98 million. He will probably only get between that 51.5 and 60 million.
regardless, but it depends on what the Giants do with:
1. Eli: 20M on the cap (extension),? that would feasibly reduce the number in 2105 if they want)
2. Cruz: 8M+ on the cap. Can he ever play again?
3. Kiwi: 7.5M on the cap, almost 5M savings if he's cut
4. Beason: 7.3M on the cap, almost 4M savings if he's cut
5. guys like Jenkins, Ayers, Walton, Wilson - that can be another 7M savings on the cap.
plus they're under the cap to begin with.
They could sign Suh if they were inclined to, but with Hankins and maybe Bromley as youthful starters, it might not make sense to tie up resources on that position.

Stupid money for McCoy. No to Suh. As you said, too much money tied up in the position.
No to extending Eli. Pay him the $17M next season. Punt the decision about what to do with him until 2016.
Cruz will be given every chance to show that he can play.
Kiwi and Beason are gone. Not that it means much, but I think Herzlich, Demps, S. Brown, Brewer, Hosley, Snyder, C.Brown, Reynolds, and Robinson are gone. Robinson is still under contract in 2015, so he might come back to camp, but there is going to be another major housecleaning. Bigger questions are what to do with Jerry, Rolle, and of course, JPP.

to be clear my only point was they could free up the cap space, so the McCoy extension, ridiculous or a bargain, is irrelevant, it's a decision they can make and not be excluded due to $$$ - like Dallas or someone like that without a lot of pain.
Dallas, for example, already has 137M on the 2015 cap, the Giants have 119. The cap is expected or rumored to be over 150M by 2016.
So, to reiterate the Giants have the cap space, if they decide to use it, to sign Suh to a contract like McCoy's.
Not saying they should, not saying they will, just saying they can.
Completely different circumstances. Our 2008 DTs were Cofield, Robbins, Jay Alford, Jeremy Clark, Legar Douzable.
2 of them were scrubs, Robbins was 32 on the downside of his career and Alford was a 2nd year guy who had not proven himself. We absolutely had to sign a DT.
Letting Joseph walk was ok, because we had just drafted his replacement. Hankins didn't play much his rookie year, but when he did he was dominate according to Profootballfocus. Not to mention Linval got a pretty damn big contract about 6.5 million a year. The Giants have looked very smart. Saved a ton of money and got a better player.
them both ? Our run defense last year was one of the best in the league. We would have been set for years on the DL. Instead of emphasizing the DE position we got our pressure up the middle from those DTs.

We'll see how smart they look with Jenkins, a 33 year old player, out. Two DTs are needed.
By signing Beason, it took away money to spend on LJ.....would LJ and Hankins be better than Hankins and whoever they throw out there with him, for the next few years?
As for that contract, it's very cap friendly....they are paying LJ 5.6M per year, the first two years, which is not breaking the bank....and if he doesn't pan out after the second season, he is easily cut with low dead money....so it wasn't a contract that we couldn't afford....it had to be, they didn't think he was that good....
And while there would be cap money for Suh, if you do some fancy book keeping, you don't sink that kind of money into a DT, when you still have so many holes to fill on a team.....
This team is not just a few players away from being contenders....

Agree, and I have been on record in this thread as saying the Giants don't NEED to use highly valuable resources for Suh.
but signing Suh is hardly mimicking TB.
that's like saying signing drafting a WR is mimicking Buffalo or something ridiculous like that.
