Scouting

Goodbread NFL.com: Scouting the scouts: Sean Mannion attracts 12 NFL clubs
"Oregon State at Stanford
Clubs attending: San Diego Chargers, New York Giants, St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers.

Three top players: Oregon State (QB Sean Mannion, DB Steven Nelson, TE Connor Hamlett); Stanford (OL Andrus Peat, WR Ty Montgomery, OL Kyle Murphy).

Brooks' take: "It's a good chance for scouts to see Sean Mannion work against that Stanford defense. And Ty Montgomery is the second guy you look for in that game. He could be on the borderline of the first-round conversation."

Cool. Now how many other teams(since 2007) have the same "attrition" rate in this era of much movement? Just askin'

Wouldn't we want to find out how many "good" or respectable franchises have that rate? I would think the numbers would be skewed by the shit show franchises.

On the other hand, I could careless about the other teams. Our poor drafting has certainly impacted our franchise negatively resulting in a free agency splurge to fill holes. That needs to be fixed. If fix that issue we will be fine. That's what I hope happens in the next couple drafts.
I'm fine with checking on good franchises only.
Big Blue '56 : 10/26/2014 11:42 am : link
Sure, all that really matters is OUR team..But if the implication is that only WE and ONLY REESE(of the respected GMs) suffer from this in this era of free movement, I would like to know if it is or isn't indigenous to all/most good teams as simply, "this is what is and no one GM is to blame."
and wrong.

Aaron Ross signed a second one year deal last year. ;)
Our QB
ZGiants98 : 10/26/2014 11:49 am : link
has re-signed under Reese's watch and will likely again next year and that's all I care about. Skill positions usually are on the decline by their late 20s anyway. Not a surprise not many positions other than your QB get second long term deals.

I am not sure the issue is movement rather than our draft picks aren't good so once we let them go no one else wants them. Hence not getting multiple contracts. Then you have guys who get hurt that sign with the eagles and let go, lol.

I do find interest in this new rookie scale and now teams aren't set back years due to paying top prospects a shit load of money. I also found it interesting to see some GMs make more trades on draft day, specifically power moves. Rams, Cowboys for Dez, and Falcons for Julio Jones. I know Reese values draft picks, but if we are in range of a blue goose or whatever the term is, I wonder if we would ever go all in.

Sure, like I said we want to compare Reese to the norm for good teams. However, good or bad against that bench mark, the situation is we still need to do better and not doing so has led to such a decline on talent on both sides of the ball. Let's say Reese is beating, or destroying the benchmark. What does that mean, big picture, if our team is still in this current situation on both sides of the ball? Good or bad, we still need to step up in drafting and start bringing in better talent.

Sure, i'd like our picks(eliminating the injured ones)
Big Blue '56 : 10/26/2014 12:29 pm : link
to have performed better. My only point is, how possible is it TODAY to have a decentcrop perform well and re-sign?
It's starting to look like,
Doomster : 10/26/2014 1:14 pm : link
not only do you have to draft well, you have to hope that, that player stays healthy, too....then you gamble on signing him early before that second contract, so he does not try free agency.....

So really, it it more skill in drafting, or luck?

You're nowhere near as demanding of evidence for pro regime claims.

I believe the criteria

is sign a 2nd contract and still with Giants. I looked at Packers and believe there were 9 or 10. Than did Bears and it appeared to be 3.
one mantra on BBI
fkap : 10/26/2014 6:31 pm : link
is that the Giants don't lose players they want to keep. So, the conclusion would be that the Giants haven't drafted many players they want to keep.

Of course, it's a dumb mantra, so I'm not sure any conclusion can be made. :)

anyhow, isn't Jernigan on a second contract? so, not sure the data is correct in the first place.

I believe Jernigan is on his final rookie contract year. He was drafted in 2011 and it lasts until the end of 2014.
