Its been reported in a number of outlets that the Knicks will cut Travis Outlaw eating his $3m contract and will keep Travis Wear.
Now, I have no idea whether Wear will turn out to be more than a 10th or 11th bench guy in the NBA, but Outlaw has been done for years.
And its a reminder of how the Knicks last season opened with Chris Smith on their roster; a guy who was clearly not an NBA player; and they were laughed at by many for making such a dumb (JR's brother) decision.
The Knick season will likely be lots of ups and downs, maybe an eigth playoff spot, but I feel like they are on a positive path.

The young player I really have my eyes on is Larkin. I'm praying he can develop into a legit back court player.
Wear has skills, but he needs to spend time in the weight room.
And in other news, Andrea Bargnani has been ruled out for the first 3 games of the season due to a sprained vagina
Hehe
Giving Chris Smith a roster spot at the beginning of last season to try and make JR happy is one of the dumbest things the Knicks have ever done...and they have quite a laundry list of dumb in the last 15 years

He hasn't looked good, whether you want to look at Summer League or Preseason. A small player with no PG skills to speak of.

I don't see any reason to do anything without seeing him play first.
Not saying they shouldn't cut him but the reason to keep him or not goes beyond if he can help the team or not. It goes to does keeping another player benefit the team more than what trading Outlaw might bring later.

Expirings tend to be overrated nowadays. If they think Wear can help them (even just as a big body who can knock down some shots) that may be worth it over the outside chance Outlaw's 3 million brings anything back.

but having his expiring contract as a trading chip.

As I stated, I am not saying they shouldn't cut him just pointing out that the decision isn't really about keeping a young prospect or an a "guy who was clearly not an NBA player" but instead between keeping the young player versus who they think the older player with expiring contract might bring in return.
Just trying to keep it in the proper context. I don't have a strong opinion either way.
He hasn't wowed anyone in camp which is disappointing but I didn't see enough bad from him to believe Larkin doesn't have a future in the NBA.
PG...such a hard position for this franchise to luck into...
