NFT: Minnesota Wild @ NY Rangers: 7:00 PM on MSG Network

Anakim : 10/27/2014 7:45 am
Time to start a winning streak against a hot Wild team. They destroyed the Lightning on Saturday. Darcy Kuemper is one of the best goalies in the NHL thus far.

But Lord help us if we lose to a guy named Darcy. Go Rangers! #MarcyD'Arcy

I anxiously await youre whining about NHL .500 record too like every year.

It's not whining, it's common sense. If according to your NHL version of .500, about 80% of teams satisfy the criteria and the league average win % is 56%... then well, congratulations on your achievement of 50% I guess. Here's a gold star.

I cant blame you at all for being jealous of the run Rangers fans had last spring and Devils fans had in 2012. It was quite a ride. But no worries, you can always hang your hat on 1982.

As for the name calling of "faggot" - I realize this is a hockey thread, but grow up. No one else was personal and you come across as a douche, something i doubt you'd have the guts to do in real life.
Yes I'm the douche

Says the guy who felt the need to start shit in an isles thread and then quietly continues to talk your shit in the rangers thread. Why do you care if a FAN celebrates the teams "success"? Isnt that what being a fan is? its annoying to read all the time
Dont care what you find annoying and not annoying
MetsAreBack : 10/29/2014 10:03 am : link
i find most of what you spew to be extreme diarrhea of the mouth. So what.

And there's nothing "quiet" about posting on a Rangers thread. We know all you Fish-sticks fans read them.

It's turning into a fun little rivalry. Try not to take it so seriously, and let's avoid the "faggot" namecalling. We're not 10 years old.

i merely pointed that the Islanders are 2-3 against starting NHL goalies this season, one of them being Khubodin and the Hurricanes which are a sure fire bet for a top 3 draft pick this year.

Congrats on beating Hank - that's the only playoff goalie the Islanders have beat year to date.

And for the record, KWhite, in the preseason I came on here and picked the Islanders to finish 2nd in the division and face the 3rd seeded Rangers in the playoffs. So its not like i think your team is terrible, ok.... I just think its been a little lucky so far as far as getting to face more backups than other teams in this division have to face.
I mean i cant recall the last time

the Rangers got to play the Bruins with a healthy Tuuka Rask watching from the bench. Or even the Stars sitting a healthy Lehtonen.

I got angry and I didnt mean it in the way that it was taken. In my days growing up, that word didnt mean or was used as it is looked at now. I do apologize for that.

But as far as my shit talking rangers fans, that still stands :)

its fun that both teams are finally good. Good for the metro area.

Just don't put a 2 man line out there. Being that Hagelin is, by far, the fastest man in the NHL and Kreider is just an adonis they could easily dominate any team. You guys always piss on our threads. We can do the same.

Matt M. : 10/29/2014 12:00 pm : link
did the other night cement Duclair in the regular rotation? He just makes things happen with the puck at both ends. He is raw, but his combination of speed, skill, and strength is worth putting up with some growing pains.
He has to be
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 12:04 pm : link
There's no reason for him not to be. He's been defensively responsible and he generates scoring opportunities. He had the rep of a pure sniper in Q, but he's showed some slick passing skills too. He's got great speed. He probably has the quickest release on his shot on the team. 15 years ago you might have sent him back just to fill out some more, but with the way the league has evolved I don't think being too light is much of a problem anymore (and he's actually listed as being bigger than Hags).

He'll make his mistakes like all rookies do, but as the Kings showed last season it's better to get those out of the way earlier in the season so your young guns are killing it in the postseason. The Rangers have been an offensive challenged team for a while. A gifted young scorer has a place.
Yeah he's in until

Anthony Duclair and the 9/10 Rule
JPinstripes : 10/29/2014 1:15 pm : link
Interesting article from McKenzie at TSN linked describes the 39/40 game eligibilty rule as more of a factor regarding junior aged players.

"Most, if not all, of the GMs I've spoken to on the subject are far more cognizant of the 39/40 game threshold than the 9/10 mark.

If a player plays in his 40th game of the season, it counts as an accrued year of service counting towards the seven years required to become an unrestricted free agent. Put more in terms us laymen can understand: if your favourite team's underage junior plays in 40 games this season, the clock starts ticking on his seven-year countdown to unrestricted free agency."

huh
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 1:23 pm : link
Interesting. Makes sense in light of AV's comment after camp that while Duclair would be on the roster, he wouldn't be playing every game.
yes, but - and obviously high class problem to have -
MetsAreBack : 10/29/2014 2:21 pm : link
but if Duclair plays in 38 regular season games... then the playoffs come, i guess then you have to bite the bullet.

Like the Rangers did with Kreider in 2012.... right?
the thing with Kreider is that his first ELC season was only
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 2:41 pm : link
the 2012 playoffs. That counted as one full season even though he was only on the team for a few weeks. That's why he'll be an RFA after this season.
and, so far as Duclair's RFA status goes, the 10 game threshold
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 2:44 pm : link
doesn't matter. He doesn't get a slide year because, I think, he signed his ELC after his 19th birthday. He'll be an RFA in 2017 regardless of whether he gets to his tenth game or not.
.
arcarsenal : 10/29/2014 2:45 pm : link
He's under contract through next year, we gave him the 2 year bridge deal.

arcarsenal : 10/29/2014 2:53 pm : link
They are, we gave Kreider a new 2 year bridge deal before this season for like 2.5 per. He's an RFA following next season.

yeah, I was wrong about that
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 3:04 pm : link
forgot his bridge deal.

Hayes will be an RFA in two years as well. Decisions, decisions. They're probably going to have to move Klein eventually - $3 mill for a third pairing guy is just too much, and he's got three more years on his deal.
Who knows what the cap will go up to next season
figgy2989 : 10/29/2014 3:06 pm : link
We need to resign Staal and St. Louis' contract will be off the books.

Just not enough money to go around, you are right, Klein could be one of the casualties.
I can't say who it is
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 3:09 pm : link
But someone's gonna be going. I doubt you could get anyone to take Girardi's contract, which is why it wouldn't surprise me to see Staal dealt this season like Callahan was. Hopefully Skjei is ready sooner rather than later.
BTW, Buchnevich has cooled off
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 3:11 pm : link
7-8-15 in 23 games, which is still damned good for a teenager in the K.

I disagree about Klein.

We may play him as part of a third pairing in what is (when healthy) a deep set of defensive pairings, but he's a veteran who can step up and log significant minutes when called upon, he's solid defensively, and he can provide some toughness / drop gloves when warranted. Having him under contract for 3 more years at $3m is not among the problems this team faces from a salary cap perspective. I'd argue that it's closer to being a bargain than it is a problem (though all in all I'd simply characterize it as "fair").

We don't exactly have a logjam of defenseman knocking on the door either.

The tough choices that need to be made are at the winger position.

I think Duclair looks awfully small, but I stood next to Ryan McDonagh late last year and he seemed small as well. I had a wider frame than he did (even though I'm an inch taller and about 15-20 pounds lighter than he's listed at). I don't think many are fucking beasts like Kreider.

So I agree with you.
Buchnevich while very gifted offensively
JPinstripes : 10/29/2014 4:02 pm : link
is at least 2 years away from playing in the NHL. He is 175 lbs and has minimal concept or discipline regarding defensive hockey.

The young player to keep an eye on for 2015-2016 arrival is Steven Fogarty playing now at ND.

The kid has really matured into a bonafide talent and may ready to center the NYR 4th line next year based on his improving defensive skills, while potentially having a ceiling of a strong 2 way second line power forward/center in the NHL.

I think Fogarty may project better long term to power forward then center.
Regarding Fogarty
JPinstripes : 10/29/2014 4:13 pm : link
Should have written 2016-2017 arrival.

Fogarty is a junior and if he leaves school after his junior year he would be a free agant.

Step is back at practice today.

Non-contact jersey but expected to be back in a week or so. Guessing the Leafs on the 8th may be his return date.
McDonagh separates same shoulder as end of last year ...

Shoulder separations scare the shit out of me ... today, concussions are more career threatening, but other than concussions, shoulder injuries are probably the worse kind of injury for a hockey player. Not good news at all.
