I really think McDonagh is trying to do too much. He's getting himself in bad spots because he's trying to force offense. I don't know if it's the weight of the captaincy or just additional pressure to step up in Boyle's absence, but he needs to relax.
Stepan won't be back for another week at the earliest, and Boyle is still weeks away. Tighten up the D, stop giving up grade-A chances, and things will fall into place.

As far as the Varsity game tonight goes - last year the Minnesota home game (12/20 I believe) was officially the turning point in the Rangers season.
Obviously not the same issue here and we're still quite banged up, but it just brings back good memories.... I watched the Giants beat Detroit in OT in a nearby bar in a game that hurt our draft pick position but still was kind of cool, my brother-in-law, who was with me, won the bar lottery for Toronto tickets two days later (part of the NYR "sell out" strategy ... give tickets away to charities and bars a few days before the game)... and we then sauntered over to the game that night and saw the Rangers play a terrific 60 minutes of crisp hockey.

you're asking a big, strong athlete to predict what and where the opponent's next move will be while going full speed. It appeared that the defenseman in this case chose not to skate all out toward the puck but actually put himself in a vulnerable position. Eh, that's the nature of the game now whether it be football or hockey.
it was a hit from behind just off the endboards. The defenseman slowed (don't think Kreider expected that) but Kreider shoved him towards the boards instead of holding up.
to make everytime unfortunately when a big player is skating at full speed and another puts himself in that position. It's a shame too because I don't believe there was intent and the defenseman slowly skated into Kreids path to shield him from the puck.
