No, it's bad.. it was bizarre. At least he's talking about football things now. He's delusional.. but.. a little more normal than talking about how hard Eric Decker prepares or how SHeldon Richardson was getting IV's on the sidelines on a hot day.
Idzik was a terrible hire. He's a capologist, not a personnel guy.
ROFL, the media guys will have a field day with this press conference. Why is he doing it? It sounds like something the Onion would do. He is giving a end of season speech not even half way into the season.

Yikes..not what you want to hear from someone in position of gm.
he just keeps repeating the same "now and into the future" buzzword.
. . . such a meandering, slurry, disjointed presser from any GM like this, EVER. He sounds like the drunk guy next to you at the bar rambling on and on and on.

as not only clueless but stubborn and even insolent. I can hear the bitterness in his voice at times. Hes offered zero info as to how the team will attempt to improve. This will only anger irate Jets fans further.
but if Woody were to make one move after this season, the right one would be to fire Idzik, not Rex.
The Jets can compete with Rex at head coach. With Idzik at GM, I think they're in Jaguars/Raiders territory and won't be able to land a quality head coach.
That had to be top 3 all-time. I'm still out of breath from laughing. Once he started going on about the other team laughing at them throwing 50 yard passes over their heads, Orton throwing for 9,000 yards and Watkins forgetting he was even in a game and thinking he was in a scrimmage because it was so easy, I lost it.
The best part about these rants is that he doesn't wear them out by doing them all the time about nothing. He only starts to roar when he feels it. Great stuff!
if the Giants ever start to get anywhere near the direction of the incompetence of the top to bottom that the Jets have been. Bless ourselves when compared (if you want) to that disorganization cross town.

put together a string of some games where he's done great when protected, the Philly game aside
But offensively we are not scoring enough points. Insists on more balance and running the ball. Disappointed that the Giants have not run the ball effectively.
Not enough big plays---but my question is how are we going to get big plays if the OL doesn't give Eli enough time?
OBJ literally missed nothing in an educational aspect. We've had to make adjustments in regards to Eli throwing deep to OBJ and that's the reason why we've not seen a lot of deep shots in his direction
sounds like relying on Donnell for the "Big plays"
TC: We'd like more out of Randle. Donnell's made some plays but we'd like more out of him too. Preston Parker's worked very hard; he's very quick. In the right situations Parker will make some plays
Francesa: questions the secondary and its injuries
TC: DRC's tried the best he can but he's not been himself. Prince has played relatively well, even against Dez (Mike concurs). Dez is just so good that he just makes plays few other receivers make
We need to play better everywhere. TC thinks JPP's played well and the effort is 100%. JPP's worked hard in practice and good things are going to be there. JPP's healthy. We've expected a lot from that DL but we've not stopped the run the way we've liked
Beason's tried everything possible to get all the way back but it is just not in the cards this year, so we agreed on the surgery. McClain will remain at MLB with the headset
Francesa: This has been a very tough stretch. 18 teams with winning records. The wild cards are going to be tough and these next 4 are top teams, one right after another.
TC: We've got a 9 game season and our level of play is not where it needs to be after looking at the games this weekend. We've got to play above the x's and o's. We need some plays from some people we don't expect.
Yes, because that's the key to those more points being scored that you want, Tom, with the make-up of your team.
Force that balance, if not even full on run-focus, and rush the ball even more.
I agree for this week. 30 points is the absolute minimum when going up against Luck, an angry Nicks and an angry AB. TC needs to air it out like crazy unless the weather is terrible
Coughlin certainly seems to understand that we need to hit on more big plays and put more points on the board. It's all over the league now. We gotta get it done.

He's always believed in the big play.
Maybe his QB getting near killed last year.
BINGO! You beat me to it. Tough to make your QB stand back and wait in a non-existent pocket for a deep play to develop.
There has to be an in-between. They've been playing 2 yards and a cloud of dust for two weeks. There's no reason for it. That wasn't what worked earlier this season.
The protection was good last week and we've had other weeks where it was good. It was very bad against the Eagles and it was also bad against Detroit.
Last week was a game where we could have been a little more aggressive in looking downfield so I don't buy that it's all because he's worried about getting Eli killed.
His QB's terrible play last year probably scarred him more than the OL
Manning's not that broken player anymore, but Coughlin's rigid stance on how they have to keep running at a very high clip because if they don't they'll just turn it over in the passing game pretty much says most of it as to what 2013 did to his mindset.
I think Rex has proven more and more that he is not a good HC. He was a loudmouthed gimmick when he first got to NY and took over a team at the right time, with a good D. However, his ability to oversee an entire team is nil. He needs to either go back to being a DC or get to a TV booth. either way, I wouldn't want to be the guy to hire him for his next HC job, especially not any time soon.
regarding throwing the ball down the field if the run doesn't work?
But Reese has some credibility as a SB winning GM to take on his coach, even if his suggestions are correct or not. I actually like the fact he's implying that the brakes should be taken off and Eli should throw it more. That being said, Reese has to understand that the OL he built better protect Eli long enough to throw the ball deep to the one legit deep threat we've got
Ok..there you go..Reese: "Be more aggressive, take away the
1. Need to be more aggressive down the field with Eli. If you can't run the ball throw it don't force the run.
2. Players have to step up on defense.
3. We are too cautious on offense, Eli is a big play quarterback. We need to take the reigns off of the offense.
4. Seems to take shots at Perry for not adjusting to injured players and the inability to rush the QB.

6. Defense has to make stops, period.
7. Without saying it sounds like he is not happy with Kiwi's play or Jenkins.

This is weird, but still can't unseat the Wilpons.
Is that true? I know the Mets are in dire straits but that's at least partly due to the financial situation, isn't it?
Woody's got more than enough money. The Jets are profitable. They're not in cap trouble. His personal fortune is doing just fine. This is just plain old incompetence right here.
We should deal with the Jests and take Rex off their hands
in return for dealing a LB or OL at a low rd pick. Send Fewell back to Buffalo and let Rex learn how to coach by working under TC as his DC.
CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Jests continue to be the Joke of NY/NJ
And you think it's a good idea to bring the Ringmaster to the Giants? Championship for who? Rex Ryan is a buffoon. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the Giants.
The Colts defense is ranked 15th after yesterday's disgrace.
I had class and missed it! Damn i figured it would be a good day after that loss, but didn't realize it would be this good by Mike F. I hope some people put it on youtube.
However, I think that's on the head coach, not the coordinator.
That's interesting Reese said that. Well, the OL stinks and we can't run block. We tried taking adv. of the Eagles secondary and tried passing concepts we didn't run previously and the Eagles beat us down.
So against Dallas, we went back to what we normally ran and while we lost, Eli had a 3 TD game. Quick passes meant the OL was efficient in pass blocking, but still stunk at run blocking.
Not sure what else Reese wants us to do. Fix the OL so that we can run more 5 and 7 drops and not get Eli killed. Add more weapons to the offense, then we don't have to be so cautious.
1. Need to be more aggressive down the field with Eli. If you can't run the ball throw it don't force the run.

Yeah was surprised with what he said about Perry. Glad he was open and honest, though. Always appreciated.
I don't think we're going to get it done that way.
We are not going to win throwing 30 picks again either. Everyone assumes "being more aggressive" doesn't mean more turnovers.
I don't think throwing more means a million interceptions, either. A good chunk of the picks that were thrown last year were Eli throwing to a spot where a receiver was supposed to break towards while the WR decided to run the wrong way.
I'm not suggesting we just get reckless and throw 55 times a game but trying to force the run game got us nowhere last week. It wasn't until we put the ball in Eli's hands late that we started moving right down the field on their defense. We should have done it earlier.
I'd rather take my chances with the ball in Eli's hands than watch run play after run play get stuffed for no gain and keep punting at the cost of "balance"
I think the Giants should ride whatever's working in a particular game
If we're shredding a particular team on the ground, stay with it until the defense stops it. Don't just start throwing for the sake of balance. If Eli only ends up with only 18 attempts, but the Giants win, so what?
On the other hand, if we're moving the chains at will in the air on another team that just can't cover our receivers or rush Eli, don't stop the momentum with one-yard and two-yard runs just to maintain a balanced offense. If we only run the ball 15 times, but win, so what?
You have to get a feel for each game's dynamics, and ride what's working. You can't go into a game and cling onto "balance" with white knuckles.
One could get the impression that Coughlin believes the being 'balanced' is so important that it is almost an end / goal rather than a means to and end / goal.
Sometimes (I think of the 2011 season NFC championship game) that running the ball, even when you are getting few yards is important to keep the defense guessing (and minimize the physical beating your QB is taking).
However, there have been times when clearly the running game is not working and Tom seems to push it regardless when moving away from "balance" (but not totally giving up on the run) seems more warranted.
Rather than Coughlin keep saying we need balance, I'd rather him say that the Giants will continue to work to improve the running game, but that they are willing to be "unbalanced" (as they were in SF) in order to win.
lol, I can't believe he said that on air
This is fantastic
"a scoreboard operator like no other" will be next.
Idzik giving eulogies of all members of the Jets hierarchy.
Wish Dog was here for this.
"haven't they suffered enough?" asks Mike when Idzik says he wishes the fans could see this team every day.
"Oh yeah.... "
WAHHHH our players play hard. That is what they get paid to do. This guy is a CLOWN.
What can't they do?????
They can stop the run, pressure passers, run the ball.
Hess is roling over in his grave.
Wouldn't you have to come back from the dead and then buy the team first?
as bad.
Not sure how Leon Hess would be able to fire anybody now, he died in 1999 and his family sold the Jets to Woody
Quote:
I would fire this guy immediately after hearing this crap.

That's being very kind to them.
"Now and the future are the same"
It reminds me of the video cassette scene in Spaceballs.
We're just messing with you, no harm intended
Francesa: "When does it start?"
Like "back and to the left"
Oh, you will? Is that why you had a WR playing CB yesterday?
Yikes..not what you want to hear from someone in position of gm.
some good players..rex
is bad coach
Mike: "Whea? Dis guy did da bus schedule"
LMAO - THIS!
Mike: "Whea? Dis guy did da bus schedule"
LOL. heard that.
"Where? This guy did the bus schedule!"
Mike: "Where?? He did the bus schedule.''
Did you get your diaper changed yet today?
He believes in the staff but he believes the players are talented enough
So who's fucking fault is this? Everyone seems capable according to Idzik.. why are you 1-7?
This is weird, but still can't unseat the Wilpons.
That's where the rubber meets the road.
Yeah, just get off the stage dude. abandon ship.
This.
So, so funny.
The Jets can compete with Rex at head coach. With Idzik at GM, I think they're in Jaguars/Raiders territory and won't be able to land a quality head coach.
That was one of the biggest disasters I've ever heard on the radio.
LOL.
LOL.
the right room rate!
He's a good DC, not head coach. He had players earlier this season saying they don't practice like a championship team.
He's not a good Head Coach because he takes no interest in and has no knowledge of the Offensive side of the team. He's a born Coordinator.
That was one of the biggest disasters I've ever heard on the radio.
That was the best part of it. I think most were in awe of the moment and couldn't help themselves.
You could tell Idzik is trying to shovel the blame on Rex by insisting the talent is there.
He took the blame for the team performance but not-so-cleverly directed it at the coach for not getting more from these players.
This might be better than the interview.
Holy shit
Get a Penalty or
Throw a pick?
Classic?
This is SOOOOOOO good.
"Play like a JET? What does that mean? Commit a penalty? Fumble? Jet Nation??! There is no JET NATION! What is jet Nation? 42,000 empty seats????"
OMG I am laughing my ass off
he is ripping them, i love it
God, I love days like today.
This is great.

@NYGsalomone: Reese says not turning the ball over is key to wins but the offense could be more aggressive down the stretch. #NYG

@RVacchianoNYDN: Reese says team has "a lot of young players, new faces," but no excuses. "It's time for us to play some good football."
@NYGsalomone: Reese says everyone has to deal with injuries. "You have to manufacture wins." #NYG
@art_stapleton: Jerry Reese calls for more snaps for Damontre Moore, but adds he is not a coach and trusts the coaching staff.
