3-4... Who thinks they turn it around?

nyGIANT90 : 10/27/2014 3:39 pm
I personally do not believe they will completely turn things around.

Injuries.. A new offense.. And an underachieving defense make it difficult for any team.

They have the pieces in place to become a championship team. The QB.. Head coach.. Talent on paper (for the most part)

It just doesn't seem to be working together on the field. Unfortunately it may take a year for this offense to take off under Eli.. 8-8 here we come!

Thoughts?
remaining schedule is a little lofty at the end...

Hmm...
I think they still have a punchers chance

"turn it around".. Will they win additional games? yes. Based on their schedule, there are some games where it appears they can win. Will they make the post-season? no. Dallas and Philly are better.
team can go as far as the defense takes them
mattlawson : 10/27/2014 3:48 pm : link
balance on offense with the current team wont get it done. if defense plays lights out, yes they have a chance.

IMO, turning it around would mean going 7-2 for the remaining games and the games against DAL and PHI are must wins. I don't think this next game is a must win simply b/c its an AFC team, but it will def hurt any confidence that's left from all that follow the team.
I think Luck
Antdog23 : 10/27/2014 3:55 pm : link
is going to destroy our secondary Monday night. Bradshaw has been a beast and the dump off pass to him is going to hurt us. I don't see Monday night going well at all.
At this point I'd settle for playing spoiler to the Eagles'

7-2... I can see that happening if the defense plays as good as they possibly can.

Who are the remaining teams? Dallas.. Phili.. Redskins.. Colts... ??
I think theyll be competitive.
KWALL : 10/27/2014 4:04 pm : link
Getting Schwartz and Jennings back would be a huge boost. If these guys are back after the bye I think they can make a run.
I think we will have a winning season
PatersonPlank : 10/27/2014 4:08 pm : link
time will tell how many we win (and how everyone else does) if we will make the playoffs
Is that a rhetorical question?
blapre74 : 10/27/2014 4:11 pm : link
no way they can make the post season, but they may win 7-9 games. Too many mediocre drafts. School is still out on 2014, but the last several years haven't produced much.
I see us getting blow out....

Micko : 10/27/2014 4:13 pm : link
IMHO, 8-8 at best. 7-9 more likely. But hey, you never know.
Underachieving defense? I don't think so.
Jupiter : 10/27/2014 4:46 pm : link
With one good DE, average DBs and less than average LBs, how much can you expect?

Ayers, Bromley, and Moore need more snaps.
Kennard needs snaps.
Need to find another safety somewhere (Behre?)
Turn it around?
Doomster : 10/27/2014 4:49 pm : link
This was an 8-8, +/-1, team.....

You have now lost Beason(and have no linebackers), DRC is game to game, outside of Rolle you have no safety, JPP has not returned to 2011 form, Cruz is gone, Jennings return is questionable, your big price free agent lineman has not returned yet, your TE's look great one week and disappear
the next...and OBj is just getting his feet wet.....

You have an offense that can look great one week, and terrible the next....

Turn it around? Sure, if this team can build some consistency and stop shooting itself in the foot, yes it can win some games at the end of the season, that will be meaningless and keep us from getting a good draft pick....it's a cycle for this club...not too bad, not too good, so you always pick in the middle of the pack....

The NBA has a strategy....the way free agents jump around with no control, the only way to get better, is via the draft....but to get a good draft pick, you have to be bad....very bad.....those NBA teams have no problem tanking a season.....

And yes, I know, the same people are in power that decide the draft....but hell, they are bound to get lucky and draft someone who doesn't get injured, and is worth something when his rookie contract is up....
Fuck yes I do!
odunde : 10/27/2014 5:15 pm : link
but here is the thing for me, until we are very close to mathematically eliminated, I always believe. It makes the losses sting a bit more, but it makes every game far more fun. Do i think the odds are in our favor of going 7-2? No! But do I think we can? Sure, why not. And I will live and die with each win or loss.
Perhaps.
Randy in CT : 10/27/2014 5:17 pm : link
when we went on our runs, we didn't always start off so well if you recall. Like we were calculating high draft picks bad.

So, anything can happen in this wacky league and we have a great coach and we have Eli.
Many of us
TMS : 10/27/2014 5:32 pm : link
thought we had turned it around after the three game win streak and were on our way. The really bad beating by the Eagles let the air out of our baloon. We were more competitive in the Cowboy game. Agree that we have a good QB and HC and Beckham looks like the real deal. So you never know.
Colts-Steelers game

Don't feel we match up against either team.Theit receivers are amazing . And the QB's are both impressive . Luck and the Colts will be tough. Maybe we're better than I think.
I do.

I felt I was being too optimistic when I said preseason that upside for 2014 Giants was 9-7, but it seems credible to me now. Offense pretty good, Defense not good enough. NO pass rush. Perry Fewell needs front 4 to get pressure and I dont think they get enough to be a true playoff contender.
Probably not,

just too many inconsistencies and starting to wonder if the talent level is just below other teams.
We have no chance...
silverfox : 10/27/2014 8:49 pm : link
...with this defense against playoff caliber teams. None. Colts hang 49 after being embarrassed. Bradshaw runs wild. Over by halftime. We win 4, maybe 5 more games.
3-4 Yes. Let's switch to a 3-4 defense this week.
Jupiter : 10/27/2014 8:50 pm : link
Just kidding.
Never thought I'd say this at the beginning of the season
FTLFan : 10/27/2014 8:54 pm : link
but it looks like this season's outcome is gonna ride on the offense. They're starting to play pretty consistently (forget about the eagles game...it won't happen again) and the defense is down too many key personnel. Now I honestly hope the offense keeps us in the game long enough for Rolle, JPP and Co. to make a stop or two rather than my TOTALLY inaccurate preseason hope that the D would keep us in the game long enough for the Eli to find a score or two.
6-10, a bit better than the 5-11 I predicted before the season.
yatqb : 10/27/2014 9:17 pm : link
I'd actually be a seller right now, although the Giants NEVER do that. They never seem to think they are out of it at the trade deadline.
I think we will win 6 or 7 games

Beckham would need to become a 8-130-1 per game type guy
SGMen : 10/28/2014 12:34 am : link
for us to go on a winning streak. He is the only guy we have that can keep safeties honest.

I think Randle could do more these last 9 games going deep and what not but it seems like we are using him for the short stuff as he is a bit bigger.

What we really need to turn it around is for the young guys to really step up and surprise much like 2007. Imagine a two TE set of Donnell and Robinson with Robinson going deep down the seem with his speed? A surprise like that could change the make-up of the offense so lets hope someone(s) step up and challenge.
I think they will.
bignygfan : 10/28/2014 12:38 am : link
3-4 is not good but it could be worse.

Four of the first seven have been on the road. I think this is a good home team.

The quarterback has proven he can win the big game.

In conclusion,

I think the Saints will turn it around.

LOL...Robinson going down the seam? Now you are dreaming.........

.....as I see 6-7 wins this season. This four game span will just be too tough, and we have had too many injuries. Losing Thurmund and Cruz is huge to each side of the ball.

We need another good draft to compliment the 2013 and 2014 drafts.......and with a good FA offseason, they we can get back into legit contention for a playoff spot.

Romo might not be the same throughout the year
Mike in Long Beach : 10/28/2014 10:50 am : link
or he may even miss some time.

The Eagles' luck is going to run out with the special teams play eventually (not to say they aren't very good on specials, but very rarely does a team win so many games because of them). The Seahawks look vulnerable. Barely got passed Carolina. The Packers got destroyed by the Saints (who I think will end up winning that division).

We still have a shot if we can survive until Jennings is back.

Our biggest issues are A) Losing tie breakers with Detroit and Arizona B) The fact that we can not afford to lose either the remaining Dallas or Eagles games C) There are some good teams who have been off to rough starts and will likely improve.

But this weekend was actually very big for us. Losses to the Eagles, Cowboys, Packers, Panthers and Bears were all relevant. Would've been nice if the Falcons didn't collapse but still, we ironically had our best weekend as a football team since October 5th and we didn't even play.

It's hard for me to declare this season over when we have Eli Manning.
Tough to imagine a turnaround being so exposed in that first
Jimmy Googs : 10/28/2014 10:52 am : link
Eagle game but maybe. If we could rely on a healthy Jennings then I would give it more of a chance but looks like he is out again this week.

Got to be able to put up around 30 points versus Colts or forget it.

Unless you've only been watching for the past 3 years or so,
Curtis in VA : 10/28/2014 10:56 am : link
its hard not to think they've always got a shot...though Manning hasn't been very magical in quite some time.

Still, its happened before. Neither Super Bowl team was very impressive during the regular season, especially the most recent one.

Its not likely to happen again, but its not impossible.

Jimmy, I think Williams is going to be a good back. It just a matter of when the light goes on. Maybe it will be this week (....maybe....)
I think Williams will be a good back too
Jimmy Googs : 10/28/2014 11:26 am : link
but Defenses are clearly reading our rushing plays very well because there has been no space for a few weeks to run.

Losing Cruz was big and with Jennings not on the field, the offense has limited threats to keep moving the chains.
