NFT: Homeland Discussion...Spoilers Inside

GP : 10/28/2014 10:22 am
It's so damn slow this season... really thought they'd pick it up a bit more after last season's cluster fuck. Not giving up yet, but I hope they pick it up a bit more. Just give us something that happens after watching for an hour.

We've been building for a few episodes now, and while I understand the show needs to set itself up for a new story line after last season, it's time for the tempo and suspense to pay off on screen. Hopefully Saul's capture spurs that, but not enthusiastic after the brutal 'Brody in captivity' story line last year.
I dropped the show

sounds like a good choice

I think this is the best season since season 1...
Granted I don't need to see Carrie "fucking a child" as Quinn said in the best line of the night last night, but I find everything going on to be interesting and exciting!
Ugh
Mike in Long Beach : 10/28/2014 10:51 am : link
More people who need explosions and instant satisfaction.

This season has easily been the best since the first one. Great build up and I honestly don't know where it's going.
You just said it yourself
Mike in Long Beach : 10/28/2014 10:52 am : link
Saul was captured by fucking terrorists. He's the #2 character on the show. How much more do you need by episode 4?
I have to
cokeduplt : 10/28/2014 10:58 am : link
Agree the pacing of the episodes have been brutal and the sex scenes are terrible. The problem with he show IMO is the only like able character at this point is Quinn.
I don't need explosions.
GP : 10/28/2014 11:01 am : link
I need something more than what I'm getting, I guess. Of course it's all just personal opinion. When I think of Homeland, I think of Brody in lockdown with the politicians with his thumb trembling over the red button. Compare that to this season and tell me the suspense is 1/10th of that. It's simply not. It's drawn out... it can build emotion and suspense without a lot of the filler we're seeing this season.

Carrie fucking an enemy/good-guy... we've seen that before, haven't we? How about something new?

#2 character in capture - recycled. This is a big part of my issue here because they couldn't have made Brody in capture any more boring last season, so I just don't trust them with the story line.

I hope I'm wrong.

Regarding your points

- Brody in lockdown with the politicians. If you're going to compare episode 4 of a season, this season, that had to start so many things anew, to most the climatic moment of the best season then yes, I think you'll be disappointed. The reason that moment was so big was because of many little moments that led up to it.

- Carrie fucking the kid. There is an element of truth to your point here, but I disagree with it. She fell in love with Brody. This? She's manipulating the kid to get information and feels like all Hell about it because he appears to be a good-hearted person. It's morally reprehensible. It's rape and and it's rape for the worst kind of reasons... to manipulate and deceive.

I actually think that this is a terrible move on her part and will ultimately lead to the creation of a powerful terrorist. Would be a real kick in the nuts, no pun intended, for this kid to realize that he was manipulated (via his first ever sexual experience) into giving up the whereabouts of his Uncle who he loves, ultimately getting him killed... and to give him up to the same people who tried to kill him in the first place. It also looks like it will be very difficult for her to get him to London, too. If all that won't breed hate for America I don't know what will. Just my prediction on that one.

- The character in capture point. Are you referring to Aayan here in the safe house? If so, while I agree Brody's being in capture last season was very boring, I don't think it's fair to compare that to this at all. Aayan has been "in capture" for a grand total of 1.5 episodes. Let's see how long he's actually there before we start hating on it and calling it a "storyline"

Additionally, while Ayan is an important character, he isn't nearly as important as Brody was (not yet anyway). Brody had two seasons of established character development and we were all just dying for him to have something happen. Do you really care about Aayan's behavior at this point? I'm way more into what happens to Saul.
disagree completely, I think this has been a great season so far
mfsd : 10/28/2014 11:30 am : link
much better than last year, with the Brody saga dragging out forever plus that ridiculously stupid subplot with Brody's daughter

They've gotten back to a lot of good old fashioned spy shit going on, which is what made the show great in the first place

Yeah, Carrie fucking the kid is weird, but that's the show, she does weird shit in pursuit of doing her job
I think they've continuously
Bob from Massachusetts : 10/28/2014 11:43 am : link
and very successfully exploited her being an out-of-control person in a very important role. The scene with almost drowning the baby and now with Aayan are interesting.

Is it entirely clear that Aayan is an innocent, or is he really manipulating Carrie? That would be a real mind-f-ck if it turned out he's in league with Haqanni.

One thing that really bothers me is why Haqanni would go outside to meet his nephew. If it's so super-secret that he's still alive, might he not be a little more cautious about being seen in public?
The show is terrific
natefit : 10/28/2014 12:48 pm : link
again. Claire Danes is brilliant. If a slowly developing plot is too much for you go watch 24 reruns.
I don't know what you're talking about, msfd

Dana Brody and her stupid elf boots were totally the best part of last season!
still need to watch the past episode
UConn4523 : 10/28/2014 1:00 pm : link
but i've liked it so far. It actually feels real as opposed to every other season outside of 1 (even then it was far fetched but possible).

I like the methodical angle they are taking. The writers clearly learned on their past seasons blunders with the general negative feedback.
On an another note

I think that Fara is just stunningly beautiful this season. Not sure if they're setting something up with Quinn, but wow.
I like the season so far a lot
Giants11 : 10/28/2014 1:04 pm : link
The best characters on the show- Carrie, Quinn, Saul and Fara are stepping to the forefront. Even the story line of the ambassador's husband is getting interesting as to just what they want him to do and how much of a loose cannon he'll become. The Aayan story line and those sex scenes are disturbing, almost to the point where I want to fast forward through them. That's Carrie though, thats what her character does drive us and everyone around her nuts. The Saul being captured story line shit just got real. Funny aside- usually I'm pretty good at figuring out the actors of the side like supporting roles from show to show. I can't believe it took me till epi 4 to realize the asst. chief in Pakistan was Noonan from Caddyshack!
Great point on the ambassadors husband
Mike in Long Beach : 10/28/2014 1:08 pm : link
That's a very interesting, out-of-nowhere storyline. He's such a weasel and the actor plays that role well. You feel empathy for him as he wants to make things right and get out of trouble, but you can also tell he is a weak man and doesn't have the strength to do it.

and that's what's created the interesting subtext this season - Carrie is hard at work taking advantage of a weak-minded target...while at the same time, the ISI has already done the same with a weaker American target

although I have a feeling Ayan will prove not as weak minded as he appears
yep love all the Fara they'll give us
Giants11 : 10/28/2014 1:17 pm : link
love her naivete. While the rest of them go around like burnt out manipulating psycho's at times her naivete is really refreshing and an interesting perspective on the show. Oh and she's incredibly hot.

I don't like 24. But thanks for the tip.
Good season so far

not sure how Fekker considers what Carrie is doing as "rape" - he's not under 18 and he certainly didnt resist. It's manipulation and its fucked up - sure - but rape?

My bad then. He's not 17? I thought he was. If he's not, then I of course retract.
He was

in medical school so I think it's safe to assume he's over 18.

Different scenario there then here is the states, but I did a quick google after that comment and yes, he appears to be in his earlier 20s.

So as stated, I retract that comment, but maintain my point :)
who gave tge ISI

Carries ' key to get apt.? I'm thinking the CIA guy who lost Hus job to Carrie, but that is too predictable.

Can't see that, especially with her prior involvement with Saul; which makes it not out of the question. I will not lean that way though. I have to say if this is a true reflection of how easy people give up secrets, and get played we're fucked!
I have no idea
MetsAreBack : 10/28/2014 8:44 pm : link
but how did ISI know Saul would be at the airport at that exact time? How many people even knew he was in town? Realize he had lunch with the ISI deputy or whatever he was, but i dont think he divulged his flight details.
show is slow??

Are you kidding me?

This season is off to a great start.

Unlike the last few with Brody, we are in unpredictable story telling mode. That alone makes it better than the last 2 seasons.

Carrie fucking a kid and leaving her own is awesome
Quinn having nervous breakdowns is awesome
Fera is stunning.
