NFT: World Series Game 7 Tonight

Route 9 in LEH : 10/29/2014 11:29 am
A game 7 in the world series has a sarting matchup between Jeremy Guthrie and Tim Hudson? Nice!

Back to back shutout games in the last two contests between these two teams. Who are you pulling for tonight? I got Kansas City winning on their home field tonight 6-5. Hopefully we see some great baseball tonight

Pulling for the Royals to win against the Giants bullpen after a dominant outing from Hudson.
I wonder how quickly
figgy2989 : 10/29/2014 11:33 am : link
Bochy would go to Bumgarner out of the pen if needed.

Game 7's are always great, no matter what the sport. With a championship on the line, even more special.

I just hope it is a competitive game, 6 of the 7 games have been won by 5 or more runs.
hopefully KC

but if Bumgarner plays a big role tonight I'm guessing they win. He's got a shot at 5-0 in the WS and an overall 8-3 playoff record....all at 25 years old.

That is what I find head scratching with Bochy. He stated last night that Madison is "human" when asked why he wasn't starting him tonight.

If it starts to play out like last night where Hudson gets yanked early and he immediatly goes to Bumgarner...then why not start him in the first place?

because he's not going to be able to give you more than a couple innings.
a lot can change in the next 7-8 hours
UConn4523 : 10/29/2014 11:41 am : link
maybe he wakes up this morning and feels amazing and gets the nod. I'd love to see him start though I doubt that happens. Maybe putting him in after a couple innings.

You have to play him if he can handle it though. He's been too damn good and even just the mentality of having to face him can play a huge role.
I really, really want to be able to enjoy this Game 7,
Exit 172 : 10/29/2014 11:41 am : link
but I'll be too devastated to concentrate because the TV ratings have been down.

Just curious to see how it plays out. If he ends up pitching out of the pen tonight and is effective (for whatever amount of innings) and the Giants lose....

As a huge baseball fan
mac attack : 10/29/2014 1:05 pm : link
I don't give a rat's ass about TV ratings.

I don't need it to be the most popular sport in the country. As a matter of fact, I prefer the slipping in popularity. Look at the NFL. EVERYONE is a "fan". And look how it has affected the game.

Keep baseball to those who truly enjoy the game. That's how I prefer it anyway.
can't wait

the relief pitching available for this game is ridiculous. If the starters both do their job, this one could be a classic. Rooting for extra innings.
no away team has won the world series game 7 since 1979

Bumgarner pitches tonight...just a question of how much.

I think the Giants would be thrilled to get four innings out of Hudson.

Listening to Francessa to start his 1pm show, he thinks starting Bumgarner is an option.....deflate the Royals right off the bat. You don't want KC getting an early jump on you.........they score on Hudson, it can quickly become a six inning game.
Celebrating low ratings and unpopularity...
Dunedin81 : 10/29/2014 1:41 pm : link
seems pretty silly. It's about the long-term health of the league, about ensuring that kids continue to play the game so you're getting top quality competition and that the postseason is on network TV, and that stadiums continue to be full.

I don't think he starts tonight. But (as you say) if they can get 4 innings from Hudson, the specter of Bumgarner looming in a relief role will be a huge mental advantage for SFG.

And speaking of the mental part of the game - Royals are not only feeling pretty good about themselves after last night's laugher, but they also know they got to Petit for a few runs, so when he pitches again tonight there won't be that fear factor.

Should be a good one. All hands on deck, as it were...
I don't think he starts either...
BillKo : 10/29/2014 1:46 pm : link
but Giants starting pitching will again be on the shortest hook of the year......they can't fall behind.
Just heard this on the radio
figgy2989 : 10/29/2014 1:48 pm : link
Hudson at 39 is the oldest pitcher to ever start a game 7 of the world series....

If you are a Giants fan, you have to pray he has a better outing then what Peavy put up last night.
I hope we get some drama tonight..
Sean : 10/29/2014 1:50 pm : link
for a 7 game series, it hasn't been great due to the lopsided games. I hope tonight goes right to the wire.
I have a sneaky suspicion....
BillKo : 10/29/2014 1:57 pm : link
....Lincecum is going to have some say in tonight's game (good or bad)....I have a feeling BB looks to him in some capacity tonight.
Everybody's up
Frolls : 10/29/2014 2:22 pm : link
This is great not only is it game 7 and not only were there a lot of great plays in the six so far, but these teams are easy to root for. I like most of the guys and they seem to be all cut from the same cloth. Hard working team guys!!! Don't get me wrong I am an avid NFL fan but I don't like all the me-me attitude of most of the players and all the reasoning by the sports media that acting like a moron is somehow related to how much you want to win. I'm going for KC but I love Pablo Sandovar.

Agree. It was curious he didn't go with Lincecum after Petit last night...
If Lincecum

Bochy wouldnt even use him in that marathon game 2 against the Nationals. I would be shocked if he used him tonight

Giants gameplan involves using Bumgarner for 2-3 innings, then they should just let him start the game and have the "starter" ready to go once Bumgarner shows signs of tiring.
It's game 7, he'll get used
speedywheels : 10/29/2014 2:50 pm : link
even if just for a few batters. This is for all the marbles. But to your point, it might not be a good thing.

I'm really looking forward to this game...

Hudson is rested, and can go as many innings as needed - assuming he pitches well (no small assumption of course). You don't want to start Bumgarner and KNOW you will have to dig into your pen early; you cross that bridge if you get there, but you don't want to go down that rabbit hole if possible.

Hudson is a veteran guy who has pitched in big games before, he's not some rookie.

That said, he'll have a very short leash (as will Guthrie).

Bochy probably wants to have Bumgarner kind of looming behind Hudson so that KC feels like they've got to get their runs early. It'll add a little mental pressure.
If you start Bumgarner, then you lose flexibility
Greg from LI : 10/29/2014 3:00 pm : link
You can use him as a fireman at any time if the Royals look like they're on the verge of busting the game open, whether it's the second inning or the seventh.
Understood
Metnut : 10/29/2014 3:20 pm : link
but they run the risk of falling behind early and not being able to use their best player in a high-leverage situation. They also can't bring him in right away because he'll have to warm up and given the very short rest, they likely won't want to warm him up more than once.
The Royals

are just blessed. They'll win. That ballpark should be on its feet from the 1st pitch.

but by the rules Pablo should not have been awarded first base, not only did he not even try to get out of the way, he actually leaned into it to get hit
my favorite part of it
MookGiants : 10/29/2014 8:42 pm : link
was idiot Harold Reynolds saying shit like the Royals are happy and thanking him for getting hit by it. Yeah, they were thrilled hitting the leadoff man in the 2nd inning of game 7 in the World Series. Do these guys even listen to what the hell they are saying?
Won't be called and a great baseball play.

Get to the pens already. Far cry from Clemens and Schilling in 2001.
I know they never call it
MookGiants : 10/29/2014 8:47 pm : link
but they should get rid of the rule if they're never going to call it. He didn't just make no attempt to get out of the way, he Roger Dorn'd it and leaned into it
I don't think
MookGiants : 10/29/2014 8:48 pm : link
they will bring Bumgarner in in the middle of an inning. If they go to the pen this inning they'll likely bring him in to start the 3rd
