Romo could end up missing time with back injury Posted by Mike Florio on October 29, 2014, 7:59 AM EDT Despite a Willis Reed moment (without, you know, the victory) on Monday night against Washington, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo doesn’t have a green light to play on Sunday against the Cardinals. And Romo may not get one. One league source with knowledge of the situation currently believes Romo will miss time with the latest back injury. Dubbed a contusion in a spot different from the site of his late 2013 surgery, Romo nevertheless remains in doubt as the team awaits more information from doctors regarding his condition. As noted by Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, coach Jason Garrett has been all over the place regarding Romo, from saying he anticipates Romo will play to calling that speculation. The Cowboys will be inclined to keep the Cardinals in the dark for as long as possible regarding whether the 6-1 team will face Romo or Brandon Weeden. Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will address the impact of that uncertainty on his preparations during Wednesday’s PFT Live. |

Dr. Jones plays “pain tolerance” card with Romo’s back Posted by Mike Florio on October 29, 2014, 9:52 AM EDT As the 6-2 Cowboys prepare to face the 6-1 Cardinals, the biggest question relates to whether quarterback Tony Romo will play. Owner Jerry Jones (who is neither a doctor nor plays one on TV but makes more money than any of them so that counts for something, right?) explained during one of his twice-weekly segments with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas/Fort Worth that the question will hinge largely on Romo’s ability to tolerate pain. Which is a roundabout way of saying if Tony Romo is tough, he’ll play. Romo had an MRI on Tuesday, and the team hasn’t disclosed any specific information regarding the contents of the images or their impact on his diagnosis and prognosis. Some signs point to Romo missing time. Based on the assessment from Dr. Jones, any missed time apparently will result not from Romo’s inability to move but from his inability to deal with the pain resulting from the movements. “He can play,” Jones said, repeating the point throughout the interview. “He technically relative to the medical aspect he can play.” And then he said it again near the end: “He can play without further damage.” So, basically, if Tony Romo is tough, he’ll play. |
Yeah this is as bad/crazy a thing he's ever done.
Agreed. It's gonna be particularly sweet watching them crash and burn. The Eagles are usually ahead of the Cowboys in my "seething hatred for NFC East rivals" power rankings, but all it takes is small dose of Jerry Jones to change that. What a clown.
Jerry Jones is Mr. Furley and Tony Romo is Jack Tripper.
“He can play,” Jones said, repeating the point throughout the interview. “He technically relative to the medical aspect he can play.”
And then he said it again near the end: “He can play without further damage.”
So, basically, if Tony Romo is tough, he’ll play.
To put it all on Tony like that and basically say "you're not a real man if you can't go" is just so fucking shitty. I actually feel bad for Romo who, as douchey as he is, is a tough SOB.

"Dr. Jones". LOL.
Earlier today I read where Romo was saying he would play, but he hadn't been cleared by the doctors yet. A decision was supposed to be made today. I hope, for his sake, that playing won't further injure him.
That said, if this causes a Cowboys slide, I fully hope the Giants can put together a string of wins, including one over the Cowboys to make things interesting.
Seriously, Romo is going to not only pay for his pain now, but down the line after football could be worse if he doesn't think wisely now and take precaution.
Frankly I hope Tony Romo says something publicly in response to this. Say what you want about the guy, but toughness has never been the issue. Jerry's a jackass.
Murray is not going to hold up, this Romo thing is probably going to turn into a big deal and their defense is a complete mirage.
Jerrah on the other hand is just gold. You're Jason Garrett, your QB with a bad back just left the game with a back injury...and your horse's ass of an owner just ran from the trainers room to the field to tell you he's OK to come back and play.
No, Jerrah didn't order Garrett to put Romo back in...but was there any doubt about the implication?
He got a painkiller shot - he still looked like he was uncomfortable standing and then throwing
The Cards are going to hit him because they blitz and have CB
He is a tough guy but this is why you have a NFLPA. If the doctors have issues with him playing that absolutely should trump the owner and should be looked at by the union
Dan Snyder on the otherhand, that guy brings nothing to the table.
Yeah, Stanton was just Montana-esque this year when he threw for a whopping 169 yards and 1 TD. Just like Joe.
Freeman, Barkley and Tolzien also looked amazing last year. Shredded us.
These damn backup QB's always look so good against us.
Murray is not going to hold up, this Romo thing is probably going to turn into a big deal and their defense is a complete mirage.
Only part I disagree with is that Randle could probably rush for 4.5 ypc behind that line. So Murray getting dinged up wouldn't necessarily spell doom for them.
Romo not going obviously hurts as I think it'll let teams get more aggressive and creep that extra guy up to the LOS to stop the run. As the Giants found out, with Dez/Romo that's a dangerous gamble.
They will run Murray at until he get close to 150 yds, then every will open up or him.
The reason why Romo is less likely to do this is because they will try to pass more early, leading to hard hits, failed third downs and shorter drives.
I think they would have won with Weeden on Monday, too. Not because he's better, but they would have relied more on the run game, which is outstanding.
Damnit.

Romo is fun to dislike and complain about, even though I don't really dislike him or wish him harm.
It was a contusion. Romo himself wanted back in........Garrett was presented with the option of winning a division game with 2 minutes left, needing just a FG.
Unfortunately, Jones overshadows his entire team and it just looks bad, and comical.
Even last year, Romo hurt his back so badly in the Skins game, he needed surgery. But still managed to stay in that game without coming out. A punctured lung years ago....so he has a track record of doing this kinda stuff.

For his sake I hope he sits at least a week. Ef Jerruh Jones.
