Interesting comments on Giant-Eagle Game on WIP

St. Jimmy : 10/29/2014 4:26 pm
On WIIP today Ray Didinger was on discussing the Eagles in general. They asked the question, while watching film are defenses playing the Eagles offense differently this year? They then played a quote of Chip Kelly denying they are seeing anything different this year. Didingers response was that the Eagles have see a safety in the box every game this year except for one. The one of course was against the Giants. He went on to say he's not sure what Perry Fewell was thinking.

I found it interesting that the Giants would not do what other teams have done to make the Eagles' offense struggle this year. It is even more alarming that they didn't switch to eight men in the box when the initial game plan wasn't working. I didn't like what I heard.
Hence why McCoy ran wild

and had his best peformance of the year.

Fewell was too busy trying to figure out how to

turn his Microsoft Surface on that he missed most of the first half.
from the first snap it was clear the game plan was not to stop the run
mattlawson : 10/29/2014 4:31 pm : link
you HAVE to believe it was by design. obviously the front 7 didnt get it done.
Thats the giants for you

They know less about defending the eagles than anybody. Should be the opposite.

Meanwhile, look how thoroughly kelly's staff was able to neutralize us. Pathetic imo.
Why am I not surprised?

Perry Fool
Fewells plan
area junc : 10/29/2014 4:34 pm : link
Includes letting the other teams best player go wild. They will never expect it, usually that guy gets lots of attention
This is dis-heartening news

The Eagles game was clearly our worst performance of the season. Losing Cruz was a huge blow to our chances of making a run this year.

If Fewell was trying something "different" against the Eagles it clearly didn't work and I now really question his judgment and style of defense.

So here is to hoping we put up our best these last nine games and walk away 5-4 at least for an overall 8-8 record. But if we tank, well tank bad so we can get a blue-chip safety prospect.
i think the bigger issue
area junc : 10/29/2014 4:45 pm : link
is it suggests we had no clue what other team's did to slow them down. in other words, we didn't prepare. that's on fewell, coughlin and all the defensive assistants.
didnt he do the same dumb shyt
blakjedi : 10/29/2014 5:01 pm : link
In a giants colts game a few years back? Where we only had light personnel like DBS... and they ran on us with heavy sets all night...

Yeah. He had like three DT's active or something.
Curious strategy
bc4life : 10/29/2014 6:29 pm : link
we held McCoy to 50 yards during one game last year - so why do something different?
Kelly

or any inovative offensive guy against Fewell is a huge mismatch. PF is loyal and has the support of Coughlin and the players but he is very limited against a offense that studies our defense and changes their game plans from what PF expected. We know this in house, but TC is loyal and stubborn to a fault as well.
same happened

Vs the Colts a few years ago. We were ready for pass and they ran all night on us.
We have one safety who is any fucking good
HomerJones45 : 10/29/2014 7:54 pm : link
Do you want to put him in the box or back to stop the
Long pass Or on the third wideout?

Choose. Personnel is a factor whether you want to admit it or not.
Anyone remember his last game Plan
Doomster : 10/29/2014 8:18 pm : link
against the Colts and Manning?
fuck, reading this shit just makes me more angry
SHO'NUFF : 10/29/2014 8:33 pm : link
stop posting this shit...this shit, plus I keep fucking thinking about our first offensive series against Dallas..run, run, run, punt...we were fucked from the get go vs Dallas...we didn't come into either game to win.

Yeah, the Colts game...Peyton read the inactives list for that game and started salivating...we basically gave them our game plan...just like Coughlin does each week with his running the ball bullshit

I would hope the game plan would be to stop the run first. Make Nick Foles beat you. He is 7-37 on passes thrown over 20 yards this year. McCoy averaged 6.8 yards a carry vs. the Giants. That is 2.8 yards more a carry than he had against any other team this year.

I agree safety is weak on the the Giants this year. It is the worst it has been since 2009 but if the safety situation dictates that the Giants cannot play to stop the run on first or second down, then shame on the Giants for not bringing in another safety in free agency when it was apparent that Will Hill was going to be suspended.
they need to play Berhe
SHO'NUFF : 10/29/2014 11:03 pm : link
have you seen clips of him playing the run??

He beat Kelly last year
It should be clear after all these years with the Coughlin staff...
silverfox : 10/30/2014 8:15 am : link
...that they formulate a game plan and forcibly execute it despite what the other teams are doing....just keep doing the same thing over and over until we get it right, or they surrender (because after all, its all about execution of the master plan...not the talent of the other team).

I think the word stubborn comes to mind...
If I'm not mistaken
mrvax : 10/30/2014 8:15 am : link
our offense shit themselves just as bad or worse that game. Zero f'ing points. Against the F'ing Eagles.

Both offense and defense were out coached and out played.
Rings r all that matters

That being said, tom's biggest blackmark here will b his failures against the eagles, our biggest rival. He never figured out reid and westbrook and more of the same with kelly/mccoy.

For a guy that hangs his hat on preparation something doesnt add up. They have killed us and we have propped them up
That Will Hill,
oldog : 10/30/2014 10:27 am : link
was a naughty, naughty, boy. Yes he was effective, but our secondary now are so nice and well behaved.
The only play I can remember Berhe making,
Doomster : 10/30/2014 10:40 am : link
he wasn't making.....he missed an open field tackle....

The state of the safeties is the same as the linebackers....it's easy to break the starting lineup of either position on this Giant team.....but we don't have backups who can....

For all the comments about Fewell, and he deserves them, because he did the same thing when he had the pieces, I have to give him some slack.....with DRC bad against the run when he is in there, with only Rolle, with only one marginal linebacker in McClain on this team, and only two DL worth anything at this time, I am amazed this defense has not given up more points than it has....
No.

No, he beat Barkley last year....
Agree about Will Hill

Can't have a bad apple like that on a team like the Giants. Especially when you have a D-co like Perry Fewell who's so adept at scheming to the talents of his players. Seriously, if we could just get 5 or 6 pro bowl defensive linemen who are also really nice guys, well I'm sure Fewell could beat Chip Kelly no problem.
and he did a good job
bc4life : 10/30/2014 11:28 am : link
against the World Champs the Seahawks - Giant's defense kept them in a lot of games last year.

The recent Philly game was a curious strategy, to put it kindly. But, to say last year's Giant's D only played well against backup QBs is not accurate.
