NFT: Destiny game questons... ps4

I have been playing destiny for couple weeks now. Really like it...playing alone as no one else has a ps4. Anyways, I finally leveled up to level 15 lastnight. I just got past the Venus storyline.. I currently use a titan and was striker subclass. I can now change to defender subclass. my question is, how do i gain more powers with defender? do i have to play as defender and complete strikes and missions as defender? or can i trade attributes with the striker subclass?
2nd question.. what is the easiest way to level up? do you just do strike and patrol on earth to level up or do you get more level points by doing strike missions on say the moon or venus? thank you for helping a newbie...

finish the story missions and you will be around level 20 and that is where the game opens up. Complete bounties and patrol missions to level up faster. My PSN is commonthe0ry if you need some help with missions. Game is ALOT more fun playing with a group. Best of luck!

To level up your Striker tree, you need to be using it. To level up Defender, you need to be using it. Turning in completed bounties while you have a specific tree active will also grant XP towards that skill tree. You gain continuous XP towards your skill trees, not just when you go up a level. In other words, even after you hit 20 (the level cap), you will continue to earn XP and unlock skills in the tree you have active.

Fastest way to level is to complete bounties, although Patrols are pretty good too. However, I recommend you work on bounties and when you have none left for the day, focus on completing the story.
