SP will be CC, Pineda, Tanaka, Greene, and either Phelps or a low upside vet who eats time and innings until one of the minor league arms is ready.
My guess is that ARod gets to spring training and simply does not have anything anymore, leading the Yanks to release him just before the season starts (yes, that means they will pay him $61M for nothing- but they just finished paying him much more than that for three years of nothing before that).
I posted this for us Mets fans but here are the "top 50" FA Â
I'd rather they not sign Sandoval but his swing at YS would be impressive. Still he will be overpaid because of the WS and I would hope they aren't the ones to overpay him.

Can't see Sandoval here. Headley is serviceable enough, if they re-sign and Prado is viable too.
Do not want Shields in any way shape or form.
I guess CC will be there in camp, but I think he is cooked. Sadly he went down hill quickly.
Nova had the surgery early last year, unfortunately for him, but may be fortunate for us. Does the recovery allow for a pitcher to come back to the team within a year? Or, does he rejoin the team mid-year if at all?
SS - Asdrubal Cabrera
3B - Prado
ARod - 250 ABs, majority at DH
rotation: Tanaka, Pineda, Greene, Phelps and McCarthy.
+1 to this lineup, but I do think they sign another FA pitcher besides McCarthy especially with Tanaka's elbow a concern going forward. A guy like Liriano if they don't go all in for Scherzer or Lester.
He had started some light throwing. Rothschild has said that they are going to tread very carefully with him and let him rehab at his own pace. Maybe he'll be back around the All-Star break.
Rooting like hell for him, because in many ways he's one of us. When he was a kid in the Domincan, the first team to scout him and offer him a contract was Boston. He refused, because he and his father were Yankees fans and that's who he wanted to play for. Gotta love it. Link - ( New Window )
Yeah, he made it through the season without having to have the TJ surgery. But, will rest be enough for the long haul? I'm worried that his best pitch, the sinker, is going to be the end of him.
Tanaka's just going to be a wait and see thing, unfortunately Â

Was also told it "does not appear" that Austin Romine will get a fourth option, so he will be out of options next season. #yankees
One or two of Murphy, Romine and Cervelli will need to be moved, and Sanchez could go too with Luis Torrens set to hit full-season ball next year.
I could understand Asdrubal, a middle of the rotation SP, and some infield depth but this team needs to realize that it is essentially in purgatory and will need to be smart and patient about it or else they'll be stuck in there for a lot longer.
it might make sense. If he hadn't missed significant time in 3/4 years he would be in line for a massive payday. But his 50 SB speed is all but gone and you have no idea if he's a 30+ HR guy at this point, so you're paying for uncertain offensive production, uncertain position/defensive play and a bad injury history.
If he gets a 5-6 year deal, he'll win one MVP, have two seasons where he plays less than 80 games and on the balance he'll hover around an .800 OPS and get paid a ton to do so.
But there's no one particualrly appealing on the market, and prices are ludicrous.
That Ellsbury deal was such a damned mistake.
I'll give Ellsbury credit for playing up to expectations. Nobody really expected 25 hrs from him. Maybe with a better lineup behind him he hits .300/.310. Only he and Gardner seemed consistant - until Gardner got hurt at the end of the year.
I agree so long it is at the right price. I hope they don't over spend on McCarthy. I would prefer they keep their picks. The Yankees were at their best when they had more home grown talent than free agents.
absolutely should keep Robertson. QO keeps his price down. 15.3 if he accepts. Why not toss him out a "fair" 2 year extension to that 15.3? Something like 3 for 36 with incentives for games finished and see if he bites? He's an elite reliever.
Yeah, next year with Lindgren, Betances and Robertson Â
...with a weak lineup, average rotation but incredible bullpen. The Yankees are unlikely to significantly improve the lineup, so they might as well try to maximize the pitching staff.
Our rotation next year will be Tanaka, Pineda, Greene, CC and Shields (sob).
You don't like Shields??? He is a low era, high strikeout pitcher who eats innings. Ok so he had a bad World Series. I would love to have Shields on this team.
Shields is not likely to be a good value for the money Â
in that article and one that has led to a shitload of unmerited rage. Newman's was not the development job. It was the ops job. His old job years ago was the development job. Roessler was the development guy and his job is still open.
sign below the radar free agents, lester or mccarthy is fine. i can go either way on robertson, but losing him will probably hurt the pen pretty bad.
i would have to think the yankees will find a power bat via trade. i just don't see how they can go in to next season and say they want to win a world series without adding power to this lineup.
He has been pretty good of late and has played 140+ games in 4/5 years (150+ in 3 of those years). If we do opt for a dedicated DH he wouldn't be the worst pick in the world. Said to be linked to the Brewers though.
they could definitely do worse than Laroche for a power bat Â
You're not likely to get more than 100 games out of any of them, plus the fact that there's no reason to believe any of them will hit at all next season.

Below the radar FA is someone who is going to get 140-160 million? lol
Not sure how you can have a dedicated DH with A-Rod, Tex and Beltran
I would be pleasantly surprised (I guess) if at some point during the season all three aren't simultaneously on the 15 or 60-day DLs. And I will be pleasantly surprised if there is a time during the season where none of them is on a disabled list.
to make room? We need room for free agent signings and minor league players who need to be added to the 40 man roster like tyler austin, pinder, montgomery, and mason williams.

Esmil Rogers and Huff may go, they may not. One of the catchers, maybe more, will be traded (Romine could be DFA'ed if there is no movement on that front). Remember though, the Yanks will add 3-4 prospects, probably Austin, Williams and one or two of the pitchers like Pinder or Burawa, but they will also keep a couple spots open for fodder because that's what they like to do.
they could lose Roller too. I wish they had used him to see what they had in him. If he goes to another team and rakes I am going to be upset.
AAAA corner IF rarely get nabbed in the Rule V. He is older and not especially projectable. Could he have a Shelley Duncan-like late blossoming? Sure. But it wasn't like Duncan blossomed into a perennial .900 OPS player, he blossomed into a fringey big-leaguer, which is probably Roller's upside.
Pirela and Refsnyder given the opportunity to compete for the Opening Day 2B job. Prado will likely be a super-sub and with huge question marks in RF and at 3B he can probably get 500 ABs without playing more than 40 or 50 games at 2B. Give youth a chance.
Give him a chance to sink or swim. What do they have to lose, honestly? It's not as if the team is a major title contender other than the question mark at second.
Put the "savings" into SS or getting a legit DH option... Â
I mentioned Adam LaRoche, either way getting a guy who can play a solid 1B during Teix's inevitable trips to the DL or maybe a solid RF and kick Beltran over to DH more or less full time.
RE: Definitely want to see Refsnyder get the 2B job Â
Give him a chance to sink or swim. What do they have to lose, honestly? It's not as if the team is a major title contender other than the question mark at second.
The Yankees have shown times when they are cost conscious and having a cheap player at 2nd would be very attractive to them. I expect them to give him and Pirela a shot and then Prado is the fall back if they both fail to grab the job.
I would still make Prado the "regular" 3B, but have Pirela be the "supersub" all over (he can play regularly at 2B, 3B, RF, LF- and for a game or two, play SS and CF).
I would like to see them at least have Refsynder fight to earn the 2B job in ST.
I agree that the smartest move would be to bring in a prototypical RF and force Beltran to DH. I simply do not see any way that ARod will even be a replacement level player in 2015.
ARod has played in a single season's worth of games in the last 3 years, had surgery on BOTH hips, is 40, and it is unclear how much of his production over the past several years was not PED enhanced. He really can't chance another PED hit, as that would ban him from the game, and make him an even bigger pariah than Pete Rose.
back to topic- Refsynder at 2B, Prado at 3B, Pirela at supersub, new RF (trade), Beltran to DH, new SS (trade) and bring in a vet SP with upside- but ignore the big three (Lester, Shields and Scherzer)- they have too many long contracts at SP for already- don't make the problem worse.
Besides, the Yanks should view 2015 and maybe 2016 as stop-gap year(s)- there is some serious talent coming in 2016 and 2017- Judge in OF, Severino at SP, Bird at 1B and Sanchez at C. There are also good secondary prospects would MIGHT be starters eventually- Jagielo (is he a 3B or OF defensively- power bat plays), Mitchell might be a SP or a power long man, and a boatload of power-armed relievers.
