NFT: Verizon Fios negotiations....

ShocknAwe80 : 10/30/2014 2:03 pm
Hey BBI experts...
My current two year contract is expiring with verizon.. I was curious if anyone has had any luck negotiating with them? What package did you end up with, and for how much?

What are the current Direct TV and Optimum promotions that I could use as leverage?

Thanks in advance!
Good luck with that shit

I think they will pretty much just let you renew your contract for 2 more years and keep only certain discounts. I heard as a trick, if you are married, cancel your service and then just get a new contract in wifes name. You will be able to get new customer discounts.

One question I have for fios customers when it comes to the prepaid cards. I am currently on day 88 of waiting for mine. Its supposed to be here within 90 days, have any of you actually gotten the card without hassle? Reading stories on some sites makes me feel like Im going to get scammed
I went through this about 6 months back and learned my lesson

do NOT try and negotiate with them. It won't work. I tried about 3 times. All I wanted to do was keep my bill around where it was. I threatened to leave and they would transfer me, no luck. The Optimum salesman came to my door offered me a great deal $ wise. So I signed up ( I liked FIOS better) So I called FIOS up to officially cancel after Optimum had been installed. Once I got the cancellation dept they caved like a cheap suitcase and offered me my old rate back. It was too late at that point. So my advice is- call and say you are cancelling and ask for the cancellation dept. and say you are cancelling. I bet they will cave. I guess you have to be ready for them to call your bluff but I doubt they will. Long story short nobody in the family like Optimum, FIOS has a superior internet, and picture quality for TV. Not to mention their onDemand is way better. A Salesman came to my door the other day from FIOS and I'm switching back after just 6 months. I've done the 2 year dance enough. They offered some good stuff to switch back- $150 Visa gift card and a free 8" tablet. Their rate was pretty good too.
KWhite I guess I may wait forever for the gift card and tablet

but who cares. Their product is so superior to Optimum it's worth it even without the perks.

You can definitely do that with Optimum, the problem is if you have a home phone, they make you switch your hom phone number. I am sure most out there who don't even use your home phone, so call up, cancel the service and then put under your wife's name.
Sorry, meant to say Kwhite

Problem in Brookhaven, is we can't play FIOS against Optimum to get better rates....fucking Optimum has a monopoly!

Only other option is Direct TV and after you get internet through Optimum, home phone, you end up paying the same amount.
Yooo caaan dooo eeeet

I renewed a few weeks ago. Upgraded to 75/75 Internet, added IP phone landline, agreed to two years, and they chopped $25/mo off my prior cost.
FIOS knows that they're the best

and they treat their customers accordingly......I can't tell you how many times I've asked people if they "have FIOS" and they've responded with "Yah, right...I wish", because FIOS is not available in their area.

I got my prepaid

card, don't remember how long it took though.

I'd call them though if you can spare a half hour on the phone being pinballed around until you get to the right person, maybe they'll send a second one just in case the first one is lost, customer service at places like Verizon is loaded with incompetence.
I just did this few day ago

We had been paying $79.99 for cable/phone/internet bundle plus another $17 for DVR. When we noticed bill bumped up to $150, we called and found out our 2-year special was up. We renewed for another 2 years at $89.99 (which was what they said they were offering new customers) +$17 and they threw in a year of HBO. When you call, ask for retention department.

In going to give them until the 90 days is up. They did follow the steps laid out by sending the emails after i paid my first 2 bills. They sent me a card with the pin about 2 weeks ago saying it would be sent out in the next 15 days. So they got 2 more days and then I'll call.

And as everyone else has said, its so frustrating how bad the customer service is because the tv/phone/internet service is so much better than the other options.
Just switched from Optimum to fios....
kmed : 10/30/2014 3:27 pm : link
I had optimum and switched to fios for a similar price($70 per month for internet and phone, 50/50 internet). Then called optimum to tell them i was leaving and they lowered their price a few bucks. Called fios back and they refunded the $70 initial startup charge and lowered my monthly payments to $55 per month for teh first year.
Turn Down The Gift Card and Other Freebies
gntman : 10/30/2014 3:44 pm : link
I found Verizon very willing to give me the latest deal, as long as I signed a two year deal. I highly recommend turning down the freebies and requesting a lower rate. You will be served better because your rate will be lower when you hit month-to-month. Typically, Verizon does not raise your rates if you maintain your original level of service.
Every time

I threaten to leave they give me a better deal. Every single time. It never fails.

With FiOS my 2yrs was up and I kept everything the same except my internet speed, i jacked it up to next level 50/50 and my bill went up just 5$ for another 2 yrs. I kept telling them I was ready to pull all their equipment out and have optimum come in the same day. Good Luck!
