NFT: NBA: Knicks vs Cavs

LawrenceTaylor56 : 10/30/2014 7:10 pm
Ugh. Brutal first two games.

Couple things:

-Calderon is out 2-3 weeks after MRI reveals calf strain

-Knicks had 47 elbow touches in game 1. They averaged 18.7 per game last year.

-Knicks passed the ball 357 times last night. Averaged 282 last year.

-STAT will be second string center tonight.

I'm looking at the box score
santacruzom : 10/30/2014 11:09 pm : link
and for all the shit LeBron got about "taking the easy route" and going to the most stacked team, the Cavs' overall roster sure doesn't exactly look dominant.
Melo's hit several game winners. Aside from the one posted
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/30/2014 11:13 pm : link
There was also the Memphis road game.
Did Larkin have a good game
mamamia : 10/30/2014 11:18 pm : link
and who is this kid Acy. Could he be our rebounding machine
The Knicks have until tomorrow...
manh george : 10/30/2014 11:21 pm : link
to lock up Shane Larkin for next season at $1.66 million. I know it's only one game, but sheesh, I don't see how they don't want to see what they have with this kid. 9 points, 5 assists, 3 TO, but five steals.

The don't have anyone else who can stay with a quick pg, and he has been choppy, but with his athleticism, I think he can learn.

30 team assists on 39 scores. More assists than any game last season.

Btw, I think Wear has already moved ahead of Early as a backup SF. 11 minutes tonight. He gives them great size at the three. Btw #2, was Dalembert hurt? 5 minutes. Aldrich had 11.
acy might be are reggie evans

Knicks look good! Cavs team.built just like heat team. No depth!
jason smith?
melojeteli4 : 10/30/2014 11:30 pm : link
He looked good, but get off his dick. There is a reason he only got a 1yr deal. Dude can't stay healthy for shit. You must not play much street ball then Alabama. Because that's what u call out when you want next game. I'm sure u balled it up in the streets of bama tho. Lol.

And we may have an awful lot of depth.
manh george : 10/30/2014 11:33 pm : link
THjr may struggle to get minutes if this is what we are going to get from Shump and Smith. Jason Smith or Acy--whoever doesn't start. Larkin when Calderon gets back. Wear giving them more than we could have anticipated--they obviously like him. Prigs. Amare. Aldrich, who had a nice game, and has so much size (6 rebounds in 14 minutes).

I will leave out Bargnani until he shows he can do anything more than lay bricks. That's still an awful lot of depth--people who can play will be sitting.

Don't read into anything. Everybody got some time. Rotations take time to settle on. Tim Hardaway isn't going to play just 4mpg all season either.
With Wear, Larkin and Early...
manh george : 10/30/2014 11:45 pm : link
we essentially have 3 first-year players with upside, because Larkin is essentially a rookie. Nice considering that they were going into the draft without any picks.

well dan..
melojeteli4 : 10/31/2014 12:01 am : link
Thats probably the reason he was cheap. Solid pickup for sure IF he stays healthy. Been down this road before with cheap, injury prone vets. Rasheed Wallace, Marcus camby, Kenyon martin, Kurt Thomas, baron Davis etc. Let's revisit Jason smith in 8-12 weeks. I hope he pans out. The 1yr deal was good for both. He will go all out this year one would think to try for a nice pay day.
i will

the mother F'N Knicks! Have not enjoyed watching a Knicks game this much in a long time. Great team effort, JR, Melo, Larkin, Smith.

Who is Wear? Great 2 minute sequence:

Wear switches and is covering LBJ - Chuckles: Oh, this is not going to be good - Wear plays respectable D and get's the rebound, runs the floor and goes right to the basket and gets fouled - hits both.

Next time down, Hard foul on Varejao - yea baby!

are really shit fans. I mean, utter shit. In a paper bag. Lit on fire.

He's hit plenty of huge shots in his time here. He's missed several too.

Maybe if he had some more quality basketball players around him instead of some guys we wouldn't always be so dependent on him hitting or missing to win basketball games all the time.

Then last night he drills a huge bucket with Lebron all over him, to finish off Lebron and the Cavs in his big Cleveland homecoming. That's pretty fucking money no matter how you slice it.

Just waiting for the cherry on top, spiteful loser Evan Roberts

Italianju : 10/31/2014 8:36 am : link
minute distribution last night is that the Knicks play something crazy like 7 games in 11 days. We have 3 sets of back to backs in the first week and a half. If a guy is playing solid like Aldrich, Wear, JR, etc.. it might make sense to stick with the hot hand and give other guys a low minute count. I mean Melo was the only guy to play over 30 minutes last night which is pretty crazy for an NBA team.
AWESOME win. Fuck LeBron.
Anakim : 10/31/2014 8:59 am : link
And gotta give it up to Fisher and Travis Wear. Fisher used everyone on his bench except for Cleanthony, including Wear, who did an excellent job guarding LeBron. The new guys, Jason Smith, Quincy Acy, Shane Larkin, all did fantastic jobs last night.

Overall, very encouraging and awesome win

Gimme a break. Nobody is shitting on Melo. Get out of here with that shit. I'm as big a melo fan as there is. Its not my problem if you are too dense to comprehend a comment meant as a joke.

But lets not pretend that melo has been some great clutch shooter as a Knick. Its widely known that melo went from one of the leagues best clutchshooters to a not very good one when he came to the Knicks.
just a great feel good win
Headhunter : 10/31/2014 9:08 am : link
after Wednesday's debacle to bounce back and ruin the most hyped return in recent memory is priceless. LeBron will never have a first game as a return to Cleveland Cavs again. Maybe in the big scheme of things this doesn't mean much, but I have hope
Larkin played well
BeerFridge : 10/31/2014 9:12 am : link
5 steals!

JR Smith played really well and under control, which was weird to watch.

Jason Smith/Cole Aldrich were physical, which was nice to watch.

But, you could see how Love/LBJ/Irving will be very tough when they get some chemistry. At least on offense. They don't look like they will be a very good defensive team.

Really more of a single-season narrative based on last year.
[2010]In the following statistics, clutch will be defined as a shot with under 10 seconds remaining in the game when the game is tied or the player's team is trailing by a field goal or less.

In the 2010-2011 season:

Dwyane Wade: 0-4 (0%)
Lebron James: 1-8 (12.5%)
Paul Pierce: 1-3 (33.3%)
Kobe Bryant: 1-3 (33.3%)
Carmelo Anthony: 4-6 (66.7%)
Dirk Nowitzki: 3-4 (75%)

[2012]
Coming up big in crunch time is nothing new for Anthony. According to 82games.com he's the third most clutch player in the league this season. In fact, if you projected his clutch-time stats out over a full 48 minutes he would average 43.6 ppg., 12.1 rpg., and 3.4 assists.

[2013] After last night's miss at the end of regulation, Anthony is 0-for-8 on shots with 10 seconds or less in the 4th quarter or overtime when trailing by one possession or tied this season. He's a combined 0-for-12 on such shots in the last two seasons.

From 2010-12, Carmelo was 8-for-15 in those situations, including 5-for-10 with the Knicks. No one had more makes than Anthony’s eight, and his 53.3 field goal percentage on those shots was the best among 16 players with at least 10 late-and-close attempts.
Obviously from a Knicks fan standpoint it would look like this
Giants11 : 10/31/2014 9:36 am : link
after the past 2 nights, but early on you have to question if this Cavs team will have the defensive toughness to beat the Bulls in a 7 game series. Obviously thats a lifetime away and there can be many injuries and emerging players between now and then. Stacking the two teams up though I'd take Chicago's coaching and grit right now. Cleveland will win their 55 or so, but can they dig in and get those big stops?
Let's not fight.
GiantsUA : 10/31/2014 9:37 am : link
This may be the most enjoyable day of the season. All is well, all Knicks fans are OK.

I think you mean Melo hasn't been as clutch under Woodson, rather than since he joined the Knicks. And it seems that there could be a minutes-related reason:

Rest Carmelo! - ( New Window )
Strong game
EricNY33 : 10/31/2014 10:55 am : link
from Larkin last night. 9 pts on 4/6 shooting, 5 assists, and 5 steals in 28 minutes. Shumpert played well too as did J.R. Smith. When the backcourt plays well we can do some things.
Great win for the Knicks
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 10/31/2014 11:03 am : link
17 fga, 6 ast, 2 tov, game icing shot

That's just an excellent game from Melo. Games like this where he plays so well and takes less than 20 shots have been pretty rare. That's a great sign. 30 assists as a team.

I thought the Knicks were a 38 win team entering the year. But if the regain the offensive composure they showed in '13, they could definitely win more games than that. The goal for this team should be the 6th seed, which seems possible although not likely.

LeBron looked like shit. They'll get it going soon though. Those Love outlet passes to LeBron is gonna be the closest we see to LeBron in the NFL.
That was one of the biggest wins in franchise history ...

and I hope nobody in the media tries to put a downer on it. That was Cleveland's SuperBowl and we spoiled it! Hopefully SportsCenter (doubt it) plays Melo's baseline jumper over LeBron over and over and over again.

A big FUCK YOU to Barkley and Reggie. It took a 9 point lead with 2 minutes left for them to say anything nice.

Kudos to Travis Wear. Undrafted rookie shutting down The King in his home coming!

We're still going to be awful so let's enjoy this! :)
