How it works ….

The Pats have plugged in Brandon LaFell (for Aaron Hernandez)

Not saying the Giants have the same quality tight ends that the aforementioned teams have, but I think Donnell & Fells bring a lot more to the table than receivers Randle & Parker do.
Randle is better than either TE.
Get a big man in the defensive secondary run blocking smaller CBs and probably most importantly, have bigger and easier targets two throw to in the WCO style offense that the Giants have gone to.
If the big guys are ripping the short & intermediate zones, that forces the safeties in and leaves Beckham one-on-one deep (which is what you really want).
However, we need something "new" these last nine games to surprise teams and Robinson has stayed healthy this year so he has to be learning something by now, right?
Donnell & Fells works too though Fells isn't going to stretch a defense with his speed.
We can imagine, can't we?
Randle is not an "X" because he's not fast enough, nor a flanker, because he's not break-away enough. So we're stuck with two mediocre options, or are we ?
I think Donnell, (as a "jumbo" flanker) could do a lot of damage. He's not going to "take to to the house" like Victor did, but he's going to out-jump a lot of people in the middle of the field, and run-over many CBs.
What I like about Fells is that he has good hands and reliable - what a QB running for his life, really needs.
I can see using them in 3rd and short, and then go play action, and hitting one of them down the seam....
As for Robinson, he looks like he has packed on some weight? Doesn't look as fast as earlier in the season....
This offense has moved the ball, with the short passing game.....part of the problem is the loss of Cruz.....OBj, for all his speed, has yet to catch a long one and take it to the house.....we have to create a long passing game....we haven't thus far......if we are trailing in the fourth by more than one score, this dink and dunk offense is not the answer......
Maybe they told him to get bigger, so he could block. He is the more athletic of all three.
He has stayed healthy this pre-season and season so lets see what we have in him? We need some kind of punch in the arm to lift us. We also need to know what we have in him before the draft. Fells isn't the future though he is clearly our best blocking TE.
WR Parker or TE Robinson / Fells? Hysnoski or a TE? Lots of options, lets see what we have with our young guys. If not these next two weeks definitely the last seven games if we are 3-6 and "out of the hunt".
Seems to me that the opposition is very happy to see us repeat our limited success plays "overhand over again".Even if we TRY something different and it doesn't work, at least it gives them something else to think about. If it does work big-time, that's even better.
