NFT: Michigan fans rejoice

dep026 : 10/31/2014 11:38 am
Dave Brandon resigning. Hoke in only a matter of time. Makes me think they have their man in mind. Expect big hirings.
Hiring an AD should be fairly easy
wolverine77 : 10/31/2014 11:45 am : link
a number of good candidates to choose from: Jeff Long, Brad Bates, Warde Manuel all have michigan ties and experience.

I fear the coaching search could be much more difficult.
I would
Jon in NYC : 10/31/2014 11:45 am : link
piss myself in joy/laughter if Jeff Long comes and brings 2Beez with him.
won't be
wolverine77 : 10/31/2014 11:47 am : link
BB, even if they hire Long. Not 100% sure Long takes the job either, but he should be the #1 guy.
Hoke fin the season
natefit : 10/31/2014 11:53 am : link
then Harbaugh after SF elimanted
I would be shocked
dep026 : 10/31/2014 11:54 am : link
If it isn't Harbaugh or mullen

I think anyone who might be classified as an "outsider" would have to think long and hard before accepting that job. Are their any "insiders" who could be considered?
Harbaugh is a no brainer
wolverine77 : 10/31/2014 11:56 am : link
if he is willing to come, he should be the guy, plain and simple. He is exactly what this program needs. Whether he will come is a whole different story.

Mullen I am not sold will come, or that they would definitely want him. Beyond those two, the candidate list gets thin very quickly.
Maybe it will be Harbaugh
MookGiants : 10/31/2014 11:56 am : link
but even if he does get the boot in SF I think the Raiders will be sitting there with bundles of cash to hire him. I think its more likely he goes to Raiders than back to college
Best news I've heard all day
RobCarpenter : 10/31/2014 11:57 am : link
And the timing before homecoming is obviously a way to tell alums they know the football program is in total disarray.
SF
natefit : 10/31/2014 11:58 am : link
is gonna want some compensation which they obviously cant get from a college. But if Harbaugh really wants to become a U of M God, he will tell SF Im not going anywhere else.

It's not as if he's not getting bundles of cash from Michigan if he goes there. And the Raider organization is a complete disaster. Michigan has been a disaster but that's because of Brandon, and he's gone.

He's not going to leave the 49ers unless they want to get rid of him. They'll fire him or the GM. Then he'll be free to go wherever he wants.
Harbaugh is at best 50/50
wolverine77 : 10/31/2014 11:59 am : link
and that is being generous. I tend to think he stays in the NFL also, but who knows.

The list of home run or even good hires (on their face) is exceedingly small. Could be a very difficult search, as it was when they got Rich Rod.

Won't have to move his family to take the Raiders job, and he may not want to go back to college. He still hasn't won a title. The 49ers organization was a disaster when he took it over, too.
Mullen
MookGiants : 10/31/2014 12:06 pm : link
has zero connections to Michigan, or the midwest for that matter, he may leave for more money and a bigger program but I dont think that would be a slam dunk, either.

They'll get someone good, I wouldn't be shocked if it was Harbaugh but if I had to bet it won't be. Just dont think he wants to leave the NFL at least yet without winning a title.
Why would he take the raiders job
bxgiants4 : 10/31/2014 12:18 pm : link
?
I could see Harbaugh lobbying for personnel powers
armsteadeatslittlekids : 10/31/2014 12:19 pm : link
in the NFL and using a college offer as leverage. Don't see him leaving the league as his first choice, but I could see him bolting if he doesn't get the offer he wants in the NFL.

I've heard Les Miles is a candidate along with Mullen and JH.

Same reasons he took the 49ers job
Just curious,
Jon in NYC : 10/31/2014 1:00 pm : link
are there any other examples of a current NFL coach voluntarily leaving to go to college?
Saban
MookGiants : 10/31/2014 1:03 pm : link
but he was probably going to be fired

Didn't Bobby Petrino leave the Falcons to go to Arkansas halfway or 3/4 through the season.

Les Miles is always a candidate. Don't think it will ever happen.

And he told GY that would be the only reason he would leave the Giants.

Perkins only left for Alabama because Bear Bryant died, so in some strange way the Bear had an unintended effect on the Giants fortunes because Parcells came after Perkins left

The Raiders job probably isn't as bad as it seems.

You've got a young QB taking his lumps, you'll almost certainly have the 1st pick in the draft.. it's not a terrible starting point. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Harbaugh went there. It's a situation that is begging for someone to come in and actually fix and he's a guy who could probably do it.
I know the guy can coach
BigBlueShock : 10/31/2014 5:23 pm : link
but I can't believe all of you Michigan guys are pleading so hard for Harbaugh. Yes, I'm well aware of his Michigan ties, but he's simply intolerable. He's insufferable. His personality is not long for any one spot as he will wear out his welcome pretty quickly. Due to his competitiveness and lack of winning a Super Bowl yet, I also think he'd constantly be courting NFL jobs and Michigan fans would have to deal with incessant rumors every single year. Oh, and did I mention he's insufferable?

Suffering through Rich Rod and Brady Joke leads fans to overlook Harbaugh's personality issues. Plus the program would be far better off after he left.
