again, according to Webster, your issue comes with definition B.

According to the authority on this topic, hotdogs, hamburgers, traditional sandwiches, subs, etc. as well as open faced sandwiches are all sandwiches:

Quote:

b : one slice of bread covered with food

A bun isn't a slice of bread (necessarily, but particularly in the case of the famed hot dog), and if you took a slice of bread, a hot dog would not cover it (to what degree necessary it needs to cover is one of man's great mysteries.).

Hot dogs may not be considered food either. However, when you do consume one, it shall be Kosher and done with KETCHUP. Fuck Mustard. Wanna fight?

I will say there is anecdotal evidence that when people say hotdog sandwich, it is not a hotdog on a bun that comes to mind. To make a sandwich you'd really have to slice them to keep them in place. Maybe one of those gross concoctions shown above.

:)
Who among us can say they have never heard this sentence.....

at a picnic or barbecue......"Do you you want a sandwich or a hotdog?"
How about someone holding a platter of hotdogs. Ever hear them say "Anyone want another sandwich?"
Or some variation of that. They are two different things.
No

I'm going to get all confused now and will not look at a hot dog the same. God damn, I love hot dogs though. I'll take 75 hot dogs before I eat one hamburger. Sandwich or not it is so unhealthy that I love them. Hot dogs + Pepsi/Coke on a summer day watching baseball is second only to watching football games and eating wings.
A hotdog is a sausage.

The way you eat it makes it a sandwich or not.
Depends

on the angle. A hamburger def is tho
A hamburger IS a sandwich.

I know this because a few weeks ago I went to Wendy's for lunch and ordered a classic single with cheese and the woman said "do you want the meal or just the sandwich?"

Also, whoever inquired about the bagel with the cold cuts on it. That does qualify.

Everyone knows a hot dog is not a sandwich. Some people just can't leave well enough alone and want to fuck everything up.
re: Sausage and peppers
natefit : 10/31/2014 8:27 pm : link
If you get one you say " I had a sausage and peppers." You dont say "I had a sausage and peppers sandwich." At least I dont.
Just ask

Eric.

Eric knows all.
Did you eat the sausage and peppers
pjcas18 : 10/31/2014 8:34 pm : link
on a plate? If not, if you had them on some type of bread and you say "I had a sausage and peppers" then you're weird.

What do you call some meatballs on some type of bread "a meatball"?

No, it's usually a meatball sub or a sausage and peppers sub or something like that.

and a sub is a sandwich. I hope we don't need to debate that. And if you put the sausage and peppers on a regular non-sub roll or slices of bread and you don't call that a sandwich then you're just trying to be argumentative.
If you put
natefit : 10/31/2014 8:39 pm : link
the sausage and peppers on 2 slices of regular bread youre a f----g weirdo.

Agree, but it's still a sandwich if you do it.
Hambergers
ron in new mexico : 10/31/2014 8:42 pm : link
are now totally different.

I hope no one head explodes over this but….one chain is now making a hamberger with two hamburgs one on top and one on bottom with some other sort of filling lettuce or something in the middle. NO bun at all. You sort of hold the wrapper to eat it.

It is nevertheless still called a hamburger, a skinny burger or something like that….;)I think nevertheless if you asked for a hamberger sandwich I think someone would know what you mean, a hotdog sandwich..no..
This question seems so stupid, yet it's brilliant
SB : 10/31/2014 11:54 pm : link
...why wouldn't it be a sandwich? I never even thought about it. But hell, one from Jimmy Buff's undeniably would be.

when you buy hotdogs at the store
fkap : 11/1/2014 7:48 am : link
do they come with bread/buns or toppings?

No.

a hotdog is only the tube of ground up lips, guts, and whatever part of the animal is left after they cut out the muscle tissue (commonly referred to as meat).

We're all being presumptive that when we go to a stand and order a hotdog the hotdog will come on a bun.

putting it on the roll/bun puts it in the category of sub, which is short for submarine sandwich.

so, yes, a hotdog on a roll/bun is a sandwich.
According to the American Heritage Dictionary...
BMac : 11/1/2014 8:39 am : link
...a sandwich is "two or more slices of bread with a filling such as meat or cheese placed between them, or a partly split long or round roll containing a filling."

At last, a definitive statement from a recognized authoritative source.
