So,
I have a connection within the Giants organization, who hooks me up with pre-game field passes every time I can see them when they are on the road - once in Denver, once in Arizona, and most recently today in Century Link field.
Met and talked with Josh Brown, Weatherford, Odell Beckham Jr's Dad (no kidding), Zak DeOssie (who is a real prick btw) and actually met and talked with Jerry Reese for about 5-10 minutes before the game today too.
First of all, he's a very nice guy. Approachable, polite, and you can just tell how much he cares about this team. Unfortunately I told him I had a "good feeling" about the game, that perhaps NY would pull it out. He did too - he felt that they had a real shot if they could run the ball and get some turnovers. The poor guy, you could just see it in his eyes when he responded: "We just need one win man, just need to get that win today." I could really see in that statement how bad Reese was hurting to get back in the winners column.
Anyway, we talked about the Seattle D, Odell, etc. Then, he introduced me to Odell's Dad, and Jerry's sister was also on the field. Nice gal...
So I walk over to the sideline because the whole team then came out for pre-game warm-ups. Jerry's sister happened to be watching too, and was right next to me. I told her, "You know, I feel bad for Jerry, because he gets a lot of sh!t from a lot of people." Regardless of whether you (BBI) agree with that statement or not, whether it is warranted - he can't control injuries, and he can't control who Coughlin plays and who he doesn't play. I've heard it all - good and bad about his draft classes - I get it.
SO here is the interesting part - his sister said: "Yeah, it's a rebuilding year - just a rebuilding year." I inquired a little further and asked what she meant by that. Her response essentially was that Eli is playing well in 2014, that they really hoped he'd return to responsible football, and that he has excelled in the new offense. But outside of him and JPP, they really have no supporting cast and they know that (especially with all of the injuries-Jennings, Cruz, Beason, Schwartz). They had this plan for 2014, and they couldn't even see if the ingredients they went out and obtained were going to work because everyone has gone to IR. Thurmond III, the O-line being hurt before the year started, Jennings, Cruz, Beason, all the CB's, the RB's and Odell being hurt for the first two months, etc...
Like many on this site, I hope for the best every Sunday, but it was very eye-opening to hear that those very high up inside the organization already know the reality of what is on the roster and that eventuality of this year is pretty much that it is over.
So - just thought I'd relay that experience from today. As easy as it is to sit here and just trash Jerry Reese, I saw a sincere love for this team in his eyes today, and in how he expressed himself, and how much he really cares about the New York Giants. For what its worth...it was a nice beginning to an otherwise disappointing outcome today.
IN defense to the fan, Weatherford was close, and the first thing I thought was the guy probably said Steve because of his Dad who played for the Giants for so long - shit, I didn't flinch at all when he yelled it because I too this Steve DeOssie all the time when I see the name "DeOssie."
He was just a real d!ck about it. And the guy's kids were really disappointed.
Come on Zak - you're the long snapper. Give the guy a break.
I was in the 4th row today, and I saw A LOT from AYERS JR.
When Eli threw that pick, Ayers ran out to the field, hands frantically waving at his defense on the sideline coming out as if to say: "GUYS, lets GO!! LET'S GO LET's GO!"
He was really impressive. But like you - who the hell do we have?
It just sucks that in 2012, we literally lost our 1st RD pick, reached on Pugh last year (insofar as he really should be playing Guard), it's going to take at least two years to fill all of these holes.
And, the team has to have two solid drafts from front to back - in order to compete.

This is quite obviously not a good football team.
Well obviously since all of those are excellent examples of the point you made..lol

IMO, JPP is a very good DE, but not elite and I seriously doubt he ever will be. A couple holes in his game I don't think he can overcome. Also more of a kid in a man's body. And we'll probably have to overpay to keep him.
On the D side, the only established leaders are Beason and Rolle, and for different reasons neither may be back next year.
As much as anything else, injuries seriously screwed us this year, but a lot of the fixes hoped for were only temporary anyway. We definitely are in rebuilding mode, and I doubt more and more as time goes by if JR is capable of fixing the team.
Definitely time for a good housecleaning, TBD how high up it begins.
Injuries have been worse on the D. The other fact is that we have a mediocre OL. Perhaps Flaharty is part of the problem?
Wow overreact much?
I just do not buy what JR is selling. Glad he is a nice guy but frankly not sure there is much to be hopeful for at this point in time...outside of Beckham.
I'm not sure how injuries to the secondary mean the team cant defend the run.
I saw what you did there and I applaud and endorse it.
I.E. all the coaches are off the hook.
I still trust the Giants front office to do what it takes to finish this rebuild next year. Somehow the players have to avoid all these injuries though.
Nothing they can't get out of if they need to. And he has the legs of a much younger RB.
He posted his experience and impression; what you take from it is totally on you.
Yes Absolutely and he always does this. He needs to be let go!
Yeah, Ernie was really nailing the draft before Jerry took it over, right?
It was a 4 year $10 million contract that results in cap savings if he is cut anytime after the first year. That is cheap for a "bridge" RB during a rebuild.
He's got a quirky sense of humor that I think may be sometimes come off as being curt, but I am willing to bet that he was likely making fun of Weatherford and not the fan. Of course I'm biased because I know him, but I'd hate to think he wasn't getting a fair shot here because of a 30 second encounter.

BS to me. They gave a 29-year-old RB a nice sized contract. Come on...

those legs haven't been on the field in weeks. And it's not like he's been durable in the past. If Reese is actually trying to say he planned this as a rebuilding year from the start he's full of shit.

Bill L, thank you. Saves me the trouble of trying to find a nice way to say it.
