No NFL will ever come out and say they are rebuilding. The NYG virtually over the last two off seasons. Tuck, Nicks, Osi, Bradshaw, the OL etc.
Rebuilding takes time. The biggest reason the offense was broken was not because Kevin Gilbride likes to run shotgun draw but because his system was impossible for rookies to learn. Would Beckem, JR be having this success with KG's scheme? Doubtful.
In 2013 we drafted Pugh, who has regressed a little this year, and we also drafted out center of the future who is playing guard. Our OL is missing two pieces both at guard. Schwartz may have been the answer but is hurt. If he is healthy you are a solid guard short of a good line.
The backfield is in good shape. ODB, a healthy Cruz, Randle/Parker at no. 3 and then a pass catching TE and this offense is solid.
The defensive retooling last year started with the secondary. Injuries are really bad luck. Now we focus on pass rushers this offseason and a new DC. TC I am willing agreed to helping force out KG as long as he could keep PF. Fewell is a goner. He has not adjusted his scheme to fit his personnel. Not sure who the next DC will be but it will be an upgrade.
Reese has hit on about 30% of his draft picks setting aside massive injury. Steve Smith was a huge success, Reese has nothing to do with Smith's knee getting shredded or Nicks body falling apart.
So the ship is sailing in the right direction. You have a franchise QB. Whether the storm and remember you have two SB rings in 2007 and 2011.
Why stress that? I think its a reflection of his age not the teams commitment to him. But either way, it doesnt change a thing from the players or the fans perspective
2) Neither contract is extended. Let both earn their next contract, if they so choose.
It's left TC with less and less to work with. However, it's time to switch up the DC and move on. The personnel's not been responding to PF with enough respect when you look at their performances, and that first appeared in 2010.
Otherwise, he will be let go. 100% that's why he only received a one year extension.
He is getting out coached and has led this team to abject failure 3 straight years.
He has not made a playoff appearance in 6 of the last 7. We've fired Gilbride and soon, Fewell and there will be a common denominator and it is Tom Coughlin.
TC WAS a great coach, he just isnt anymore. He ripped apart McAdoo's playbook to the point where we are running the exact same plays 5 times a game. When Troy Aikman notices it 3 times before the end of the first half, that's an issue.
We are running the same plays. We cannot even create misdirection off those plays because the playbook is so reduced, so boiled down into nothingness.
Tom cant make any adjustments anymore. His solution is to trot the same guys out there with the same tired old gameplan of execution. He's got no inventive bone in his body anymore. Nothing is created, just recycled caricatures of past successes of another era.
Tom is obsolete as a head coach. We need a guy in here who is going to invigorate the team, give it vitality. We have guys with enough physical talent to succeed in this league. The team hung with the Colts and Seahawks for 1 half, but the lack of adjustments and the same old tired formula dooms them late in the game.
Fire him, it's done. Stop believing it isn't. What we're seeing now from the team is the exact same thing we've seen for the last 3 years. And quite frankly, its the same thing we've seen 6 out of the last 7.
The current roster is loaded with so many rejects from other organizations that it looks like an expansion team. And most of the players they have are pussies. They talk a good game, but hit them in the mouth and they turn out to be soft and gutless. Not to mention talentless.
You fire TC, you lose McAdoo, and your starting from scratch on offense all over again.
TC wasn'r dfired last yr and our off is in dissaray this year. The Eagles let go of Andy Reid 2 yrs ago and look where they are now. Your logic maked NO sense
The DL needs more than just pass rushers. Who will play next to Hankins? Will they keep JP? And move him to LDE where he belongs? Can Bromley and Moore play? What about LB? They have nothing there.
JPP would be more effective if we had a decent player at the 2nd level. still hope is gone will cost too much for what he is. Bromley...why isn't he playing now? Draft o-line, LB, d-line, S, LB, TE, with the first three being inter changeable by BPA. This team needs an infusion of young players who contribute.
Look, our team is not good right now. 3-6 in 2014, 10-15 past 2 seasons. But I feel like we bottomed out last year in the '13 season. We won 7 games but we all know that we were closer to a 5 win team if we didn't play so many backup QBs. Our offense was an absolute mess. Statistically, it was probably one of the 3 worst in the entire NFL. Visually, it was probably the ugliest offense in the league.
This year our offense is better. It's not great, but it's better. McAdoo hasn't completely solved the offensive issues but I do feel like his offensive philosophy has been an upgrade over the previous one. I have questions of scheme and talent with this offense, but more with talent.
OL: We need to draft another 1st-3rd round OLineman, and also think about getting better via FA. The OL isn't as bad as last year but it's still below-average imo. We spent a 1st round pick on Pugh and we really need him to step his game up. Very disappointing season from Pugh, but hopefully it's a sophomore slump because we have seen him play like a potential stud before. We need to get better in the trenches.
RB: We desperately need to add a speed back, ideally one who can catch passes. David Wilson was the ultimate question mark and who knows how he would've played, but I do think we missed having a RB with his type of skillset. Hopefully we sign or draft a versatile speed back. Andre Williams has bigtime power but everything else has been disappointing, hopefully he finishes the year strong. Jennings looked really good when healthy.
WR: Beckham looks great, Randle looks okay, Cruz is hurt. A healthy Beckham/Cruz duo for next year really does make me a little excited. Beckham needs to finish the year strong but this has been an impressive debut. But with Cruz's future a bit of a question mark and Randle's performance so lackluster, I also want to draft a WR in the Top 3 rounds. Randle just isn't that impressive and looks weak even for a WR2. Parker and Washington both look NFL caliber but nothing special. We need another WR here to atleast challenge Randle and preferably pass him on the depth chart.
TE: Donnell is a big dude who makes some great catches. He's proven to be a threat in the RedZone and on 3rd downs. But his lack of speed kind of limits his ability to threaten the defense. I wouldn't mind adding TE depth, but there are bigger concerns on this team.
Our offense was 28th in pts in + last in TOVs in 2013, it's 20th in pts and 22nd in TOVs this year
Eli had an 18-27 TD/INT ratio last year, Eli has a 17-6 ratio this year.
Our offense just wasn't talented enough to make a 180 jump from ~30th to Top 10. But it has gotten better. Eli looks like he's been neutered to a degree but he has looked better this year than last. I was worried about Eli being done after last year, he's made me feel better after this year. I feel like McAdoo is really stressing caution when it comes to Eli and the passing game, which has led to far less turnovers. I think with personnel with more talent next year, McAdoo can be more aggressive with Eli. Our offense can actually be above-average next year, which would be a quick turnaround for a unit that ranked pretty damn close to last in 2013.
I'd keep the QB/HC/GM trio for next year. They deserve another year imo. As disappointing as this season has been, I feel like we were so pathetic last year that we have to keep expectations realistic. This team has improved from last year and shown signs of life. We need to bolster this team in the off-season but the arrow is pointing up imo.
When it comes to the DC and the ST's, I wouldn't mind changes. I don't really feel too strongly either way about Fewell, but I think the rest of this season is important for his job security. He needs to have this D playing better. And the ST's have been terrible.
Fire Fewell and replace with an ESTABLISHED DC. Spags I hope
Let JPP go. Injury prone, Stupid, and just not very good.
Sign a quality offensive lineman in FA
Draft HEAVY on D. Need LB's and DE's. Plus a speedy late round RB
When I see where the game is heading and what is going on in Philadelphia, all I know is that I want in on that. This whole season with the balance, the lack of offense efficiency is making me think we are just riding a train in a plane era. After all, it is not like Philadelphia is doing this with great talent. Riley Cooper? Mark Sanchez? Celek? Maclin? Good players, not world beaters. Only Shady and most of the OL can be considered very good on that entire team. Chip Kelly is outcoaching this league.
I hope Its Reece and Ross Whoever they bring in
seals TC's Fate . But I can't justify keeping the
rest of the Staff .Including McAdoo .
Eli needs protection between that and The Linebackers
Those are the two weakest positions . I would have
sent Kiwi Packing instead of Linvil . I don't
understand why they let him Go with him Hankins
and JPP , Ayers brought on Moore Developing We seem to have
more holes to plug then ever . If we Lose Enough games
I would be all in on Gurley Add BPA free agent Tackle
Draft a Guard in round #2 the rest goes to the Defense .

to field what they felt was a competitive squad, perhaps one that could stay healthy, get lucky, win 9+ games and get in the playoffs. Once you're in, who knows what might happen.
The foundation of the team underneath was rotted, and pretty clearly wasn't improved a great deal with the past 1-2 offseasons. Injuries reveal this, paper thin depth, a pile of failed draft picks and careers lost to injuries.
They basically tried to retool while adding to the foundation underneath. Injuries ruined what competitive chances they might have had, but imo, this was a 8-9 win team at best on Opening Day.
I think Coughlin needs to go because he can no longer communicate or motivate, and I think he will go.
As for Reese, while I can easily name GM's whose draft records are more dismal, I'm getting weary of Reese's continuous inability to draft solid football players. I don't have a replacement for him in mind, but if he's replaced, I won't say that it was a bad decision, unless John Mara starts to think that he, himself, should be making these decisions. We saw how Mara's decision to bring in McAdoo has worked out, and I'm old enough to remember the disaster the Giants were when Wellington Mara played GM in the late 60's and 70's.
ludicrous.
Jerry never hired Coughlin and never spent a day 1 draft pick on a QB.
Tom is past his prime and can't make anymore adjustments. People have figured out his offense and he's handcuffed McAdoo into a stray puppy.
Jerry is rebuilding, but Tom is executing.

No one is tied to the hip in this franchise.
No QB,
No HC,
and certainly no GM
Eli is not a young qb who needs stability anymore. He's an established veteran who is still at worst a top15 QB in this league. Him staying has no impact on the evaluation of Reese or TC.
So please, don't group them together. You can fire Tom and Reese while keeping Eli.
I also think the Giants are too risk averse to hire a guy like Chip Kelly as a head coach. OC, maybe. But if Coughlin goes, I doubt his replacement will come from the collegiate ranks.
Quote:
but they also had more talent on their roster than we do now. Please name all these great players currently not injured that would start and excel right away for other teams.

You are very likely correct. I do see it more likely they pick someone with NFL experience. That said they haven't picked a new HC in awhile:)
YUp, I 1000% agree.
Reese is safe here for another 3-4 years of failure.
What's going on here is that there are people on this forum who are so loyal to Tom Coughlin that they hold him above reproach.
And they will do anything, and I mean anything to protect him from being tarnished on this message board. That means they will tie him to Jerry Reese. To Chris Mara. To anything possible to simply evade the elephant in the room; that he is the sole common denominator with the consistent failures 6 of the last 7 years that this team has experienced.
That says something about the players we draft, the training staff or something about the football program here. e.g. Are we signing oft-injured players ( Beason ). Are we not doing the right things for these guys physically ? Is there something strange about our training rooms / techniques etc ?
If we continue that pattern its going to be tough to get to the top again and its from something in this org, Reese, TC, something somewhere has to look at that and know where it comes from, cause it ain't Good.

Coughlin could retire but I doubt it. and I don't think the Giants want him too. One more year to build this up/hopefully win a championship and hand off to McAdoo. Way it is. And way it should be.

Wow how dishonest is that post? We are probably a .500 team for those 6-7 years its not like we are 4-5 wins/year team.. That in itself is bad but the 7th year we won the superbowl.. also the 8th year that you left out we were one of the better teams in NFL.. Please let me know if you wouldn't sign up for another 7 year run like that?
The Anti TC campaign is going nuts.. Any real fan would sign up for a 7 year run like the past 7 years we've had with the giants..
