If Romo Stays Healthy, I Think Dallas Has a Shot This Year

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/11/2014 2:32 pm
Arizona just lost Palmer.

Seattle just suffered a huge blow by losing DT Brandon Mebane. Don't seem to have the receiving threats.

The 49ers don't seem all that intimidating anymore.

Who knows what will happen with Eagles at QB?

NFC South? Yuck?

Detroit? Not in my lifetime. Perhaps Green Bay. Obviously Seattle still could give them trouble.

They may get to see the Pats, Colts, or Broncos in the Super Bowl.
I don't care...

I am looking forward to the Eagles having to play an actual opponent for a change. Kelly is a great coach, and they have a very good OL, but there's some serious smoke and mirrors going on with them.

If the deciding factor in this race is the quarterback, I would put my money on Aaron Rogers over Tony Romo. In any event, I reckon I'm getting on the Packers bandwagon in terms of rooting interest for the NFC.
They definitely have a shot.

I'm with you on that. Pretty funny watching their fan base go from Vick, to Foles, now to Sanchez......and always making a case for how that guy will get it done. I guess that's being a fan.

Anyway, Eric - I think Dallas legitimately has a shot.....but the one thing that scares me is Romo's chance of injury, and also his play versus the blitz.

The Eagles blitz a ton, and for whatever reason Romo was oblivious on what to do versus it on MNF versus Washington. The Eagles certainly took note. Does Dallas correct that?

Those teams play two times in the final six....certainly will be a very long way in determining the division winner.

Seeing one of those teams splashed over every website as champions would be almost as dreadful as seeing the Giant win was incredible.

If the Giants aren't going to win, I want some innocuous team to win like Seattle or Detroit.

it really is smoke and mirros with the Eagles...
BillKo : 11/11/2014 2:40 pm : link
consider this:

1. 30% of all runs for zero or a loss
2. Nearly last in redzone efficiency
3. Lead league in turning the ball over.

I've said this before, they try to run as many plays as possible to catch teams either out of position or tired..and it leads to big plays.

Even Trent Dilfer said it last night...ANY QB could make the the throws, they are mostly pitch and catch with a few long heaves thrown in.

And of course, they are getting great special teams, and very oportunistic defense (although I think the defense is simply taking adavantage of inferior opponents).

They have a Super Bowl winning offense, but the defense ultimately is what is needed to win in the playoffs.

to feel that it's ok for Romo and Witten to have a shot at the title belt this year? Yeah, I hate Jerrah, I hate Dez, I hate all the history, but if I can think of TWO players who deserve a chance at a ring more than any others, they are certainly up there. Witten being Linus's blanket and Linus being a much tougher SOB than any of us really give him credit for. Again, HATE the organization, HATE the owner, but can't fault those two for which team picked them up and held onto them, and I honestly respect the cr@p outta what they've accomplished over the years. I guess I just feel like they've paid their dues.

alll year to get back on track...problem is they could get squeezed on the wild card. Let's see how they look this weekend versus our guys.

Detroit.....ehhhhh. I would NEVER trust them in a big spot...I could see them being a 1 or 2 seed then going out first round....or not making it at all. They were setup last year to win that division easily, and folded.

...is too big of an if for me. He just seems to have zero knack for avoiding big shots, and for all the hoopla around their offensive line, they're still middle-of-the-roadish in pass protection.

Detroit is an interesting team and the next 2 weeks are a good litmus test for them - going on the road to AZ and NE. They're finding ways to win instead of lose and weathered the storm of losing the best WR in football for an extended period and may have unearthed another top 10 guy in Tate. If Ebron catches up and can start to contribute regularly they're going to be a mess to defend. Also, they're getting contributions from their secondary that were absent in prior years under Schwartz. They also already beat Green Bay and held them to something like 7.

Bob from Massachusetts : 11/11/2014 3:17 pm : link
and I hope they never win another game as long as I live. Sorry about Witten and Romo, but they play for the Cowboys, so who cares about them?

I don't feel as virulently about the Eagles, but I still want them to lose.

I also don't think the Cowboys' defense is good enough, Murray will burn out at some point, and the Eagles' luck is bound to run out at some point this season. I'd kinda like to see Sanchez win; feel bad for him. Detroit seems like a well-rounded team; Green Bay? Seattle? I don't think any of them have the wherewithal right now to beat Denver/the Pats/Indy. But who know who gets on a run? As far as I'm concerned, it could be anybody but the Cowboys and I'll be happy. I always root for the Giants and whoever's playing the Cowboys, but the second half of that almost takes priority this year.

Yup. Mathis and Kelce are back, but now Herremans is done for the year.

They're not quite what they were last year, but still very solid. Especially in pass pro.

Murray also needs to stay healthy. With those two, I agree with you. But, I also wouldn't rule out Seattle.

Right now, SF is on the outside looking in, but a lot can change between now and the end of the season. NO could actually be a losing team hosting a WC weekend game as a division winner. NO at home could be a tough draw, even if they make it at 7-9 or 8-8.

I agree that the 2 most intriguing games for the rest of the year could be Dallas and Philly x2. They are neck and neck and it is possible only the division winner makes the playoffs. Although, right now, I think 1 WC is the loser of that battle.

I remember hearing about how screwed the Cowboys were with the cap and how LAST year was supposed to be their last chance before they had to purge. Well, they purged (Ware is one example) and here they are kicking some ass. I swear I read somewhere on here about how they will be so screwed becuase of the cap this year and in the future. I bought into it too. Add in all the injuries to the defense this year and it is amazing to me how they have been able to overcome this. Jason Garrett coach of the year? :P

I think they have a big advantage over the lesser teams......it takes a defensive team that knows their system and can keep up, match up, and trust their assignments. The Eagles really don't have outstanding personnel, other than the RB McCoy, but get teams turned around thru confusion, and even more so by the opposition tiring.

While I hate everything Eagles more than any other team... team, players and fans, I'd like the Giants to catch up with Cowboys 5 SB wins. Giants are 1 SB short (not including the 4 before the merger). I dont want the Cowboys to widen the gap.

While I'll miss saying "How many Lombardi's do you have?" when an Eagles fan talks shit, but with 1 SB, they'd still be 3 shy of the Giants. I guess 3 up, you could still say that, but it doesnt have the same zing to it.

(1c) See Green Bay knocked out. (No 14th championship)
(4) See Patriots knocked out. (No 4th SB for Pats/Brady)
(5) See Eagles knocked out. (Keep SB trophy case empty)

Wouldn't mind too much if they won:
(1) See Broncos win (2nd SB for Peyton)
(2) See Lions win (It's been a long, long time)
(3) See Cardinals win (see (2) )

This is two years now of Chip Kelly getting production out of a pedestrian quarterback in his system. If he's truly figured out a way to plug and play the quarterback position, you're talking about a revolutionary change as far as cap dynamics. The situation the 9ers and Seahawks were fortunate to fall into could be a regular situation for them. If Sanchez plays well the rest of the year, that will convince me.

- Detroit, always liked them growing up because of Barry Sanders. That dumpster fire deserves a superbowl like Cleveland does.
- Green Bay, I have no positive or negative feelings towards this franchise.
- Arizona, see Green Bay.
- New Orleans, outside of Lousiana they have some bandwagon ass fans who oddly enough, I haven't seen at bars since they were hot a few years ago. Regardless, I have no feelings positive or negative towards these guys.

I can't stomach any other NFC contended winning it. The worst in this order would be: Seattle, Philly, Dallas, 49ers. Seattle tops the list because of a loud mouth friend of mine. Because of him I want Seattle to be irrelevant for the rest of his life.

I'll be rooting for the following teams to win it all this year in this order: Cleveland, Detroit, Denver, Indy, Arizona, Green Bay, New Orleans.

Well the Eagles did go into Indy and win. They went to Arizona and lost on the final play of the game.

They're legit... but i suspect we'll see the real Mark Sanchez soon and their run game shockingly... sucks. Not sure why, but McCoy not only is having a lousy year, but i dont think i've ever seen him carry the rock as lazily as he is this year. It's almost like he and Chip Kelly are in some kind of feud (obviously I'm speculating).

And there is no way this current special teams/defensive TDs stretch of theres is sustainable. It seems almost historical the run they are currently on between Sproles returns and defensive TDs.
The Eagles lost Todd Herremans for the season
Bake54 : 11/11/2014 8:15 pm : link

Put me in the camp that has grown to feel sorry for Romo. I seethed hatred towards Romo and the Cowboy up to 2007 when we beat them in the playoffs and then their team spiraled out of control. I thought Romo was a prick but have come around on him. He's suffered and doesn't seem like a bad guy. Granted, something about getting older means not hating things so much as it's a waste of time. Philly though - there's just something about them I do not like.

SLIM : 11/11/2014 10:04 pm : link
that the key is to get into the playoffs and then everyone has a chance. All of these teams have flaws so Philly and Cowboys have a good shot. This is worrisome.

The upside. With a good draft and a DC change (at minimum), we could be right back up there by next year.
