I didn't think the players quit

until Seattle had those two consecutive plays where we forced fumbles, but couldn't get the recovery.

Before then, I thought we were just getting beat.
Honestly,
Mike in Long Beach : 11/12/2014 5:55 pm : link
How could anyone watch the Giants in the 1st half, then the 2nd half, and not deduct they quit?
Giants were +3 in turnovers in the first half
oipolloi : 11/12/2014 6:01 pm : link
that will make any team look good

the truth is, they really could not stop Seattle in either half. Seattle stopped themselves in the first half with all the TOs.

If the Giants had recovered those two fumbles in the second half, nobody would be talking about their quitting. Also both those fumbles were caused by the tackler ripping the ball out, so I don't see how that is quitting.
Banks and Carson

Are really taking the current defensive players to task. I'm just a fan, but if you don't want to play, get off the field. I bet the guy behind you, who is making less money, wants to earn a future on the team. No excuse for quitting.

That is right..Seattle was moving the ball in the first half and thankfully the QB made a few bad throws. Still, they were able to run right over us. In the second half two guys were able to strip the ball but not before the ball carrier ran over three of our other guys first.
Didn't have to wait until the 2nd half!
TC : 11/12/2014 6:15 pm : link
Bowman did an Ole on Lynch's first TD. At least Coughlin let him hear about it!
Carson is right
mattlawson : 11/12/2014 6:17 pm : link
For those of you that need to re-watch the game please do so. Seattle was energized by the INT. Giants quit.

All there is to it.
Hmm

Remember when we always had good Linebackers ?
Apparently Reece doesnt think we need them .
Agree that they can play as hard as they can but
the talent isnt there . When they do show
up the offense takes the day off .
Its Like the 70's all over again , thought we
were beyond that .
Chip Kelley and that smirk .
Detroit Going for two up by 30 or something like that .
standing at Midfield in Dallas and getting our asses
handed to Us . Colts Defense humilating us .
Not sure I even want to watch the rematch with Philly .
sure, I remember when the Giants always had great LBs

Bowman ducked from engaging Lynch on his TD.

Taylor, Reasons, Carson and Banks.

Best in the business.
Is it wrong as a fan to be a little embarassed
pjcas18 : 11/12/2014 6:51 pm : link
at Bowman's "effort" here? It was a 7-point game at this point. And this looked a lot worse on the broadcast from the angle where you see Bowman not move and clearly wanted no part of Lynch.

This must have driven Harry Carson crazy

I thought they would be the strength of the team.

The way Rolle gets "fooled" also looks like BS to me. I think he quit on that play too.

I've been a big Rolle fan over the years but I think there's a reason why Rolle never misses games and plays like that are the reason, IMO. He plays very "safe" sometimes. If you know what I mean.

Anyway.. .I thought guys on the defense 100% quit in the 2nd half of that game. No doubt about it.

Yup! And some people, are using Eli's int to be their scapegoat. The defense was pussified, way before that pick was thrown.

However, when you have a lot of veterans on defense, they are going to stop going 100% when the game is clearly lost.

They did let that guy walk into the endzone on the last TD. And, yes, that was infuriating at the time. But it was infuriating because as fans were pissed at the overall performance of the team. That TD was ultimately meaningless and Seattle very likely would have scored a TD on the next play or two even if the guy was stopped short of the goaline.

So, it was really just symbolic.

I don't think Bowman and Rolle and whoever are going to come out soft this week just because they didn't make that play. Agst 49ers, they will play hard until the game is out of reach.

And actually the coaching staff should have put backups in. I mean why was Eli out there, risking injury, in a game that was clearly lost? And why wasn't Moore in instead of JPP or Kiwi?

It's important to note that Bowman made more than one business decision. Watch the first TD....Coughlin gave him the business for his "effort" on Lynch's goalline run when Bowman gave a chicken shit effort to tackle Lynch. Then it happened again later in the game. It was not just one isolated play.

Pat Summerall or even Al Michaels would have called him out on it and they would have used that phrase exactly "business decision". Aikman and Buck didn't even comment on it.

Bowman
stretch234 : 11/12/2014 7:43 pm : link
Lets be honest - Bowman is not tackling Lynch who has a head of steam and outweight him by 30 pounds. 99% of CB's in his position are not either

The DL couldn't tackle Lynch either.
but most of them, especially those
pjcas18 : 11/12/2014 7:45 pm : link
on the roster fringe, would try to and not blatantly avoid the contact.

No I'm saying it did happen.
pjcas18 : 11/12/2014 7:51 pm : link
twice. and the announcers didn't even mention it.

i brought up a couple names of announcers who would have mentioned it (al michaels used to love to break deion sanders balls about it)

but zack bowman is not deion sanders.
Oh ok,

pjcas18 : 11/12/2014 7:57 pm : link
i didn't realize we disagree a lot, I guess that means I'm right often. LOL.

I posted the .gif of it above, it was worse on the slo-mo replay they showed during the game. they showed bowman just staying right where he was and not moving from the wider angle.

RetroJint : 11/12/2014 8:26 pm : link
At the end of the third quarter & throughout the fourth. The offense was useless after Beckham tried to tip the ball to himself. But the Giants defense forced 2 Seattle fumbles in the drive that finally resulted in a 2-score lead. That's not quitting, Harry. Sorry. Bowman refused to stick his nose in there on the goal line against Lynch-true. But I saw Brian Dawkins do the same thing at the Vet when Dayne had a 20-yard head start to the endzone, just like Lynch did.
get use to it

Enzo : 11/12/2014 8:34 pm : link
that game if they did in fact quit. Because if they were giving their all and still got steamrolled like that, well that would be even more embarrassing. Unfortunately for us, I believe it was a mix of guys quitting and a defensive coach who's simply in way over his head. Wouldn't be the first time for either under TC.
anyone with eyes can see what happened
mattlawson : 11/12/2014 8:39 pm : link
they stopped playing. they still got streamrolled, just after they stopped playing. Eli is not the scapegoat - but the INT sure was the tipping point for the game.

1Q - FIGHT
2Q - FIGHT
3Q - FIGHT
(INT)
4Q - shit the bed
Sorry to go after TC again

but how many times are we going to hear or talk about players quitting. It is tiring and ridiculous at this point. I am not excusing the players, not one bit. It is total BS. But it is crazy to not call this out.

Oh this team quit
SGMen : 11/12/2014 10:37 pm : link
It isn't just being over-matched, these guys did not play their best or to the whistle.

If SF comes to our house and wins by 17 or more (blowout loss) you have to start looking for a new coaching staff, GM, scouting department. I mean, you have to make a list of who is playing and who has "quit" too and purge them from the team at season's end or before, if possible.

Having said all that, I think the Giants have a chance cause they are home and SF isn't what it once was. We'll see how it goes.

Too often people say that the team quit when all that happened was they were over matched. They didn't quit. They just stunk.

Did they quit against the Colts? Detroit? Dallas? No, they just stunk.

They can play as hard as they want, they just aren't very good.

Giving up 177 yds in the fourth quarter on how many? a dozen running plays? That quitting. No other answer.

The stink because they quit and they quit cause they stink.

Doesn't matter, they know Coughlin won't play the backups - especially if they are rookies/second year guys.

It's against Coughlin's code.

So who are the leading candidates for:

Head Coach?
Defensive Coordinator?
Special Teams Coordinator?

And which players are on the chopping block? I saw in another post where someone suggested JPP and Antrel Rolle - given their price tags and their recent performance, I can't disagree.
