NFT: So I apparently lost a job last weekend

Hades07 : 11/14/2014 10:01 am
This is weird, has anybody dealt with a situation like this? Not sure how to proceed, or to just forget it and move on.

I have/had a side job doing receiving and AP for a grocery store for the past 3 years. Every Saturday for 12 hours, like clock work. I had a review two months ago and it was glowing. This past Saturday, I came into work and somebody else came in and told me he was there to do my job. Confused I checked my email and nothing. Checked the schedule and I was not on it and he was, though when I was last in I was scheduled to be there, so it was changed. I am on none of the future schedules, so I figured I must have been fired. But no word from my boss or the company as to why or even that I was fired and no attempt to contact them has succeeded. My discount card still works though even though it should be shut off automatically if terminated and I still have my keys (which open any door in the place).

Should I just say F-it and move on at this point or should I continue to try to figure out what happened?

So I recently decided to get out of the rat race and try being my own boss. Naturally you can't start a business overnight and I've been working a few odd jobs in between to make ends meet. One of them was delivering pizza on the weekends for a local place. I missed my first Giants game in 14 years for this stupid little job bc the money was actually much better than you'd imagine. Then one Sunday a few weeks back I came in and same thing: someone I didn't know was there doing my job. And I'd just left the place at 11 the previous night. So sometime in the 14 hours in between my shifts the owner decided to hire someone else and not tell me. And it's not like I was bad at the job, the owner had previously busted his assistant managers balls several times bc I was pulling in more deliveries than he was just by hustling. Luckily I've found that these little odd jobs are easy to come by and I picked up that slack the following week but it certainly throws you for a loop.
UPDATE:

My new boss went to my old boss to get the transfer paperwork complete. He asked her if she could tell him why I was taken off the schedule all of a sudden. She asked him if it would effect him taking me on his team either way. After he said that it would not effect his decision, she told him that he didn't need to know then.

I got an email from her after that conversation it seems, reminding me that proper protocol is to inform her if I intend to transfer. So I replied with all the emails I sent trying to contact her, plus the ones sent to HR to inquire about what happened and a list of dates and times of phone calls made to reach her and who I spoke to. I CC'd HR on that email.

No other way to explain it.
Yeah, there is definitely something weird.

She couldn't fire you because there's no cause. But she wanted to give your job to someone else. It's probably the best outcome this way as you wouldn't want to work for that person. Good luck to that guy.
You clearly did something to piss her off

It sounds like if the reason could have affected you getting the transfer, she would have spilled the beans. I don't think, in her mind, it was anything that would have helped you at all.
I hope the next update

is about how you got your revenge. This situation is ripe for something good.

Glad things worked out for you. Wow, that is truly an odd situation. The million dollar question is what was the reason for all the shenanigans?

If she was pissed off at him enough for something he did then she would have been singing like a bird regardless and wouldn't have asked the guy if it would change his mind about taking him on his team either way.

To me it sounds like she's just a cunt

Yeah, I get the feeling when HR gets all the emails and list of phone calls that she did not return, she'll have some explaining to do.
Sounds like it was a blessing in disguise

So... did she reply?
Sounds as if...

the rationale would have reflected more poorly on her than on him, so she didn't want to go into it with another manager if she could get away with not saying.

The whole thing seems bizarre.
