Andy Headen... faster than LT. Unfortunately for him he played on the Giants and was destined to play behind LT. If Headen was on our team now, he would be our best LB by far.

Lee Rouson, one of those "football players" who did everything right. A solid backup RB and an excellent special teams player.

Guys like this are the reason why we won back in the 80's. I dont think Parcells ever worried whether these two were doing their job.

was Larry Flowers. On multiple occasions, I heard the opposing players walk off after a play telling the coaches that Larry was fucking crazy. Not only would he get down there and make the tackle every time, but he would be punching the shit out of the guys trying to block him too.

Very true...our receivers were so bad for so long that guys like Lionel Manuel were the "cream of the crop."

Mike Sherrard flashed for half a season...Phil Simms said he never had a WR like him...and he breaks his hip being untouched.

Fast forward more than a decade and we get that nutball Plaxico who finally plays like a Pro Bowl WR.

Steve Smith breaks out and actually makes the Pro Bowl at a young age, and then he tears up his knee and ends up in Philly of all places... Sigh.

Fast forward again...without Victor Cruz...we don't win the fourth Super Bowl. Does he make it back?

There was a long stretch when Chris Calloway was, by far, the best WR on the team. I love Calloway, but wow.

And then..Nicks and Cruz. At the same time. It may never get that good again. But then Beckham comes along and looks like he could be the best of them all.

Cruz will be back. He works too hard. He's got too much character. OBJ, Cruz and another high draft pick. Yes, please.
Chris
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/15/2014 12:36 am : link
crossing my fingers on Beckham...almost too good to be true...there is NO WAY he should be this good with ZERO training camp and preseason. He's playing outside and the slot?! Please, please stay healthy and focused.

How jinxed is this team this season? The moment Beckham starts playing, Cruz is gone for the season.

If you had Cruz, Beckham, and Donnell, that would be a problem. If Randle would just get his head out of his ass.

Beckham and Donnell have a lot to learn still. I feel confident about next year, but that doesn't make me feel any better about wasting another year of Eli's prime.
Chris
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/15/2014 12:51 am : link
the astounding thing to me this year is this:

The talent level in the NFL is so shallow that if you have a quarterback playing at a high level, it's almost impossible to make the playoffs. But the Giants are finding a way to do it this year. Eli is having one of his best seasons and yet the team isn't even competitive.

That's how bad the rest of the team is.

Fewell's defense was dead last in 2011 but got hot at the right time. They were dreadful in 2012 again. Got a lot better last year but that might be misleading given all of the dreadful and/or backup QBs we played.

So 3-out-of-4 seasons, the NYG defense has been the NFL's worst or near worst.

We legitimately worry about the OL, but damn, fix the defense.

impossible NOT to make the playoffs
Eric I Agree About Beckham
Trainmaster : 11/15/2014 12:52 am : link
the kid looks really, really special. After all the time he missed, I thought this was going to be a lost season. It seems he did use the time to learn the playbook / mental parts of the game.

I absolutely love the way he fights for the ball and it looks like he has a sick pair of hands.

His deep speed should really open up short routes / back shoulder throws. I think he needs to be targeted more: "Throw him the damn ball!"

Trainmaster
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/15/2014 12:54 am : link
what they have to do is get him more in space. Short pass and let him do his thing after the catch.

That's where we miss Wilson too. He would have been a good fit for this offense.
Eric...
Chris in Philly : 11/15/2014 1:00 am : link
This is the difference between football and basketball. Eli playing about as well as he ever has and we get our teeth kicked in weekly. One great player can take an NBA team to the finals. One great NFL player gets his ass kicked trying to make something of nothing.

We're close in some areas and far away in others.Next offseason is vital.

Something along the lines of "whatever wet get out of Beckham is a bonus"...I shutter to think what this team would look like without this bonus. Kid is a game breaker and will be for a long time if he stays healthy. I'm already worried about his rookie contact ending and losing him to free agency. Yes, I know he's only played 5 games, but he's been as good as advertised, and then some.
Eric
Rjanyg : 11/15/2014 8:54 am : link
I agree the defense needs to start playing downhill. Needed are a nasty pass rushing DE, a dominant 3 down LB and a rangy safety. This has to happen next offseason. Plus an attacking defensive style. The Tampa 2 is crap.

Go back and watch his one season - I'm talking ability to play the game, not contributions - that's hard to measure due to his short stay here.

Could cover, great range, and could really hit.

but, admittedly - this is based on memory

think he may have been a locker room problem
bc4life : 11/15/2014 10:23 am : link
when he complained about being released, one of the position coaches mentioned that it was his 4th team in 5 years, or something close to that.

also look at his Viking highlights to get a sense of his abilities.

Glenn covered a lot of ground and made some big plays, but ranking him among the best ever just rubs me wrong. He was here one year!
And I am well aware of his play...

2007 after the win at Washington week 3 my friend next to me says he has formed a decent relationship with turner and proceeds to call him and puts me on the phone. I told him if we had him on the field that day we wouldn't have needed a goal line stand because he owned the skins back in the day. He laughed and agreed.
