while I know everyone seems to be freaking out...

Sir-Yes-Sir : 11/16/2014 10:03 pm
understand that this league is very difficult place to succeed, and nearly impossible over a period of time.

as frustrated as we Giant fans are right now, you should remember the fans of half the teams in the league are equally distraught (without the cushion of having won two recent superbowls)

I'm talking about:
Washington
Chicago
Minnesota
Tampa Bay
Carolina
Atlanta
New Orleans
St. Louis
Tennessee
Houston
Jacksonville
New York Jets
Buffalo
Oakland

all feel their teams are underachieving and playing like crap. even Seattle fans aren't happy right now.

I'm not saying to not be frustrated or blame anyone, but this tone of martyrdom and idea this could "only happen to us" and "we're the most embarrassing worst team in the world" is nonsense. It happens to a lot teams, and right now it's happening to us.

3 of our top 4 corners are out, and the other one's playing hurt. we're already thin at lb and then the best two got hurt. the o-line's been banged up. jennings went down just before the most important stretch of the season.

no need to treat these players and coaches like they're stealing money and/or suck and/or don't care.
We've been

uttlerly pathetic for 3 straight years.
Both of my teams

NYG and MIchigan are once proud franchises currently stinking up the joint. It happens. Both will turn around. Life goes on.

sure that anyone reading these posts know that we have won 2 superbowls. Still not really sure what that has to do with the play of the last 3 years? Or for that matter next year and the year after that?

you're not talking about 2011 when we won the superbowl, so...

the last 2 1/2 years, we're

9-7
7-9
3-7

that's 19-23. not great, but far from pathetic.

i'm not saying there aren't problems. we're trending down and have looked bad.

it's the woe-is-me tone and idea we're the worst team in football talk i can't stand
for example
Sir-Yes-Sir : 11/16/2014 10:20 pm : link
the raiders are 8-33 over that span, and haven't made the playoffs in 12 years.

don't talk about the giants like that's happening here.

2012 Giants were 6-2 and finished 9-7...pathetic.
2013 Giants started 0-6...pathetic.
2014 Giants are 3-7...pathetic.

Utterly pathetic for 3 straight seasons.

As a fan you feel your team will win every game. For the past 3 years the only thing we had to root for was picking up a marquee player in the draft. And it is not like we even went from those superbowls to mediocre. Make the playoffs and maybe win a game. We went to bottom third of the league. Maybe after winning a superbowl with the same coach and the same superbowl MVP quarterback keeps our expectations too high. And then you watch this team play, and the coaches coach and you wonder, what the heck is going on here. It looks like they dont even practice sometime. Other than Eli it seems not one key player can stay on the field long enough to matter. What is it about this team that gives you hope we will be better next year?

you're like my dad...if we lose, pathetic losers, if we win, ok but we got kind of lucky, win a superbowl? not bad...
No, not like your dad at all
Josh in the City : 11/16/2014 10:45 pm : link
these last 2 super bowls were some of the most incredible runs in history. Loved every second of both of them. I tell it like it is. When this team sucks I'm not going to sugar coat it. When it's great, I enjoy the ride.
We haven't beaten

a team with a winning record and starting qb, in more than two seasons....that's not pathetic? Not one....
best post I've seen here in a while

Sir I think it's the ESPN culture that messes with the posters here.

"Trent Dilfer says we suck". Waaaaah

Lots of lost perspective going around.

What some of these frontrunner fans would do if we were the Browns, Jaguars or Raiders I don't know.

For a team with a franchise QB
SB : 11/17/2014 12:06 am : link
we have been lousy for the past 2.5 seasons. A team with a QB like Eli should not be that bad. You simply can't compare the Giants to all the sucky teams with no QB and say "well, it's hard to maintain success in the NFL these days."

One down year every now and then I can understand, but this has been crappy football since late November 2012.
i didn't even include
Sir-Yes-Sir : 11/17/2014 12:31 am : link
the browns, bengals, dolphins, cowboys, eagles, cardinals, and others because they're playing pretty well this year, but god their track records are more brutal than the giants as well.

injuries and some failures in the draft have made a mild downturn look much worse.
Good post
montanagiant : 11/17/2014 12:33 am : link
But it is indeed understandable how frustrated many fans are
Personally
NewBlue : 11/17/2014 12:34 am : link
I prefer to grade myself against the best and not think about how Jaguar, Raiders, or Browns fans feel.

Standards mean something and if we fall prey to grading our selves vs. the bottom feeders.............
again
Sir-Yes-Sir : 11/17/2014 12:43 am : link
not saying to just be happy with poor play. changes should and will be made.

just reminding people to ease up on the idea we're the worst and most embarrassing team in football, which is a tone or comment i see over and over. very few teams have long term consistent success, and even some of those don't have rings to show for it.

you really are exactly who i'm talking about.

1 in 32 teams can win the superbowl. when the giants do it, you love every minute and enjoy the ride. when they don't, they're pathetic losers. ok.
Injuries tore the heart out of this team this season.
Don in DC : 11/17/2014 8:34 am : link
Cruz, Prince, Schwartz, Jennings, Thurmond, McBride, Beason... the list goes on and on. Even DRC has been limited by injuries.

Hard to blame Reese and Coughlin and Eli for struggling when we are trotting out a patchwork of replacements and backups every week.

So, at this point I am writing this off as a lost season and hoping for a good draft and another good year in free agency with our improved cap position.
Very few of those teams have a franchise QB
Default : 11/17/2014 8:37 am : link
and none of the teams that do have the QB carry as large of a cap hit the Giants do.

Right now they ARE pathetic losers. They're 3-7 for crissakes, and three of those seven losses were by three touchdowns or more.

Every team has injuries. Our problem is, our front office has done a piss poor job in the draft and free agency for several years running, and that is now evident with the product being put on the field. Look at Arizona - no starting QB, several starters missing on defense - no problem; 9-1. And it's not like this team was tearing it up when all those teams were healthy - yes, we defeated three mediocre teams, but we were outclassed against Detroit and Arizona, and a now-four-loss Seattle team, We have zero quality depth on this team, as evidenced by the fact that Mark Herzlich, John Jerry and Charles Brown are now playing meaningful snaps, and that is on our front office. We were a mediocre team when fully healthy, and now a bad team as some of our few good players have gone down to injury.

Don in DC : 11/17/2014 11:31 am : link
Sure, every team has injuries. This team, however, lost our best LB (Beason), our best corner and nearly all of our corner depth (Prince, Thurmond and McBride), our starting RB for several games, the leader of our WR unit (not sure if Cruz is our best WR anymore with Beckham's emergence)...

Concentration of injuries at particular positions is a killer. For us, CB has been a disaster this year. I thought the secondary was incredibly deep and a real strength coming into this year. And I still think it was, before all the injuries. Now we're grabbing guys off the street and putting them on the field.
