but we must select the best offensive lineman available when our turn comes in the first round.
No they shouldnt because the best OL available by the time the Giants pick may not be in that range...
For example if they are in the 7-10 range and Sheriff and Ogbuehi are off the table there really is not another OL in that range to draft...
this is something that bugs me about people on BBI...People keep saying draft the highest rated OL but if the highest rated OL left on their board is in the 12-15 range why are you reaching for that player?
Landon Collins, S, Alabama (one safety signed past this season)
Tyrus Thompson, OT, Oklahoma
Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Early darkhorses are TJ Clemmings from Pitt and Melvin Gordon
Not to bust others' stones but I don't want Ogbuehi or Scherff. I think both are highly overrated and I've seen them get beat often. Ogbuehi is third on my list of recent A&M tackles including Joeckel and Matthews and they aren't lighting it up in the NFL. Don't be surprised if during evaluation time teams try to figure if he's a tackle or guard (which is what he played two years ago with Matthews and Joeckel) which pushes his stock down, possibly to the 2nd. Think Jonathan Martin when he was coming out of Stanford.
I also don't want Shaq Thompson. Highly athletic but a safety sliding into LB and it shows. He's all over the field but not a strong finisher, especially against the run. Think Alec Ogletree. Wherever we pick in the first, it'll be too high for Thompson. If not for the knee problems I'd much rather have his teammate Hau'Oli Kikaha, the most explosive pass rusher in college this year. He has 22.5 TFLs including 16.5 sacks through 11 games but 2 reconstructive knee surgeries will scare teams off.
My picks are based on if we're picking in the 8-13 range
No to Landon Collins. More of an "in the box" safety than a cover guy. Yes to Anthony Harris after a trade down. Same for G A.J. Cann. Eli Harold, Harris's teammate is also worth watching, but at 6'4", 250, he's probably too small to play DE in the NFL. He also can be controlled in the run game, but has aggressive pass rush ability.
a WR,we just did that.I don't know what players will be there but unless there is an incredible defencive player,I would go OL in rounds 1&2.We have to fix this line or be rihgt back here again next year!

If the top player on your board is WR why would you not go WR? because the Giants are so stacked at that position?
I am sorry i would rather get the stud WR who is going to be here for 10-12 years next to beckham rather than reach for OL...
1. Amari Cooper. Yes we drafted OBJ this year but we have no idea what Cruz is going to be like, Randle is just a possession WR and I don't expect Jernigan reassigned. Eli's in his prime. Give him weapons and set the new QB up nicely
2. Brandon Scherff. Watching this OL get manhandled week after week us infuriating. Get a guy that can play physical football. He can be the RT or LG if they insist on leaving Pugh there
3. Landon Collins. Insurance if Rolle wants too much money. If not he becomes our SS and heir apparent when Rolle is done
I would have gone with Shaq Thompson but his size worries me
I'd have no problem taking Cooper if he were the BPA
best athlete. why is OBJ so great? because he's a great athlete. take a linebacker if there is a very good one. take a tackle, if there is a very good one. Just about any position besides kicker and QB. Let's hope V.C. comes back at slot receiver. If he does, they should be OK at receiver.

then you go out via UFA and spend the money to address the urgent need(s), you don't leave it until the draft and then burn picks regardless of position.
You should go with the guy you have rated as the best playmaker with your first round choice. Position be damned. This is the guy you want to keep a long time and clearly has the potential to be a week to week game changer.
Someone like Beckham.
Round 2,3 should probably look at best Oline, best linebacker you can get in particular order.
This team needs MASSIVE upgrades at the skill positions. I'm done with Randle and I don't think Cruz can be counted on as a definite. I don't care for any of the OL outside of Collins and the top-flight DL will be gone when the Giants pick.
spending a pick on a OL in the 1st doesn't guarantee immediate returns, that's why you go the FA route to fill spots that are huge needs. It took Beatty 2 years to develop, the prospects at OL this year seems shaky, if you're ok with reaching for a OL with a top 10 pick, you're ok with continued failure.
2) OL
3) DE
2) Cedric Oghbuehi
3) Brandon Sheriff
4) Landon Collins
5) Vic Beasely
Randy Gregory
The LB I would like if he is there in 2nd rd is chi chi ariguzo

1. OL
2. WR
3. DE
Shaq Thompson is going fly up the board and be the hot name after the combine because he is such an athletic player...
1. OL
2. WR
3. DE
If you actually look at it though there are only 2 OL right now in the range of where the Giants are picking and both are RT's not Left...
2) Brandon Scherff
3) Brandon Scherff
This team is going nowhere until the O-line is upgraded. I still have nightmares from that humiliating prime time Philly game.
2 and 3 should be bigger type guards than we have now.
DE Randy Gregory Nebraska
DE Leonard Williams USC
OT Brandon Scherff
OT Andrus Peat
WR Amari Cooper
Tyrus Thompson, OT, Oklahoma
Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

#2- Perennial all-pro LB that plays for 15yrs with the Giants and makes the HOF.
#3- Perennial all-pro S that plays for 15yrs with the Giants and makes the HOF.

Hate to tell you but WR is a need as well...
1. trade down( had to be said)
1A. La'el Collins
2. Andrus Peat
3. Shawn Oakman
I'm not sold on Landon Collins and think NYG can get a starting safety out of the next 5-6 safeties on most boards.
2) Gerod Holliman
3) Shawn Oakman
I'd like another Beckham.
The OT from Iowa Scherf is an offensive weapon. He can really move and pull.
Danny Shelton
Shaq Thompson
A name so nice, it gets in twice
Not a great draft to be picking high with NYG's needs, but early on WR and OT look like the strongest projections so far.
2. Brandon Scherff. Watching this OL get manhandled week after week us infuriating. Get a guy that can play physical football. He can be the RT or LG if they insist on leaving Pugh there

The shitshows we've been subjected to on Sundays for the past few years should be enough to highlight the madness of continuing that train of thought.
Well, Shaq Thompson is probably the best athlete.
Building longer term through the draft is smart, but picking a position or bust is desperate.
Actually it has when it comes to offensive line
5 of the 10 offensive lineman from the past 2 super bowl teams were signed as free agents
Then draft:
1st Rd: DE/WR
2nd Rd: DE/WR/LB/S
The offense needs another playmaker (especially if Cruz isn't 100%) to go with Beckham and the defense needs pass rushers and impact players at LB/S
I'm just tired and pissed that people want to continue down this path of madness when we've seen the results. A shell-shocked QB and a shit offense.
It's beyond time to abandon the approach the Reese has used to assemble one of the worst rosters in the league.
Dancing elephants have priority.
Someone like Beckham.
Round 2,3 should probably look at best Oline, best linebacker you can get in particular order.
Good question and interesting to me.
Khalil Mack - 56 tackles, 1 sack , 1FF
Anthony Barr - 62 tackles, 4 sacks , 1FF
These look like good production but I'd really like to hear comments from folks who have seen them play.
Aren't they both 3-4 backers?
