but i want someone who is going to be aggressive with their scheme's..I know right now the Giants secondary looks like trash because of the injuries but when fully healthy you have guys on the outside who can hold their own...
I dont want to see anymore Corner's dropping off 10 yards on 3rd and long...i dont want lineman dropping into coverage...with DRC, Prince, Hopefully a health Thurmond, Mcbride, Bowman you have guys who can hold their own 1 on 1...
I know its not all Fewell's fault because of injuries but the lack of agressiveness with this defense has really bothered me the past couple of years...
When you cant generate a pass rush with 4 guys you have to be creative with your blitzes and it seems whenever he calls a blitz its just a linebacker running straight into a lineman there is no creativity..
He had a great working relationship with Coughlin and maybe that's the role he was cut out for.
What has he done since he left?
not much obviously, but had he done before we signed him?
He would absolutely be an upgrade over Fewell who needs to go. I'd put him on a short list of candidates.
with anything a NY sports writer says....but I like the idea. I'm personally ready to say goodbye to TC, as I think his philosophies have not kept up with the changes in the NFL game, but this is maybe the one scenario that I think keeping him would make sense.
Spags struggled since he left here but we all saw what he's capable of when he coached here. I remember feeling that his game plans actually gave us an edge over our opponents - and I have not felt that way since he left. And he was put in some pretty tough situations with the Rams and Saints. I have to believe he can still put together a good game plan and get the most out of his players.
To me it makes too much sense not to bring him back. But Gary Myers wrote it so it must be a bad idea. Flame away.

Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, and young, hungry Justin Tuck aren't coming back with him.
I actually don't mind the idea. We need much better players, obviously, and Spags's defense matched our strengths superbly back when he was our DC (which it wouldn't now). But he's someone who I think had legitimate reasons for his failures as DC in NO.
Yep. His post-Giants career is underwhelming, but he was in two horrific situations. That Rams job is such a coach-killer, and the 2012 Saints was a bizarre anomaly on so many levels.

And maybe he just is a shitty HC but a solid DC. The transition is difficult. Norv Turner is a great OC but a shitty HC (not that Spags is the DC equivalent of Turner).
I'm not in a rush to hand him the DC job, but I don't see a great rationale to throw cold water on it either.
Hire Spags and Falcs ST coach Keith Armstrong who starred on Hard Knocks and with B-Mac guiding an offense that we saw last weekend, that's a winning formula.
I'd have no problem making that switch. Plenty of good coordinators flame out as head coaches then resume their careers as coordinators. Kevin Gilbride is a perfect example. I couldn't give a lesser shit about Spags' year in New Orleans - the league dropped an atomic bomb on that organization.
The BIGGEST problem has been with the choices that have been made with regards to the PERSONNEL of this team. over the last 3 years the choices have just not been good, and regardless of the coaching, the talent has undermined a lot of that and the coaches haven't been able to develop enough players to field a playoff contender.
RE: I like Spagnuolo, I'd welcome him back here. Â
but he's not the panacea some think he will be and he's not turning this defense into the 2007 Giants.
Yeah, I agree with that. I think most coaches are more levered to the talents (or lack thereof) of their team than anything else anyway. Spags would struggle with our talent right now.
I get the impression that a lot of BBI'ers are the types of dudes who just can't get over ex girlfriends and never let it go.
"I wonder if there's still a chance.. we were so great together... "
Is this better or worse than the BBIers who want to the other dude's fiancé?
Ha! You were close to hitting one out there but the missing verb and incorrectness of there being a "fiance" involved in that situation made your ball die on the warning track and fall for a long out.
Anyway.. any DC is going to be hard pressed to do much with this group. Especially what it is right now with all of the injuries.
How many good NFL defense don't have 1 good linebacker? I can't think of any. You can't have an entire level of your defense be almost entirely devoid of starting caliber NFL talent. Not saying we need an all-pro at WILL, MIKE and SAM, but.. this group is bad.
We also have a DE playing the majority of the defensive snaps who has a giant fork sticking out of his back.
Maybe Spags could scheme his way out of some of this but I wouldn't bet on much improvement.
The Giants defense will get better when the talent does. Not when a magician comes in here and calls more blitzes.

Let's bring back Spags! Let's bring back Parcells!
I love Spags, but what the hell has he done since he left?
Let's just draft well, and if we need to make any coaching changes, let's get some up and coming guys that can grow with the team.

Pffft, I don't want any former Eagles TEs coaching the Giants.
Amen!

Dump Coughlin on this ass.

The Rams, Saints and Ravens don't have our dust.

Definitely had the right idea, though.
Is a B+ ok?

Agree with Mr Shep.
