Some of you need to sober up....

Damon : 11/18/2014 2:19 pm
Remember last year? The team was terrible. Devoid of any talent on the O-Line save Pugh. No running game. No receivers but Cruz. Did anyone think that this team could turn it around in one season?

Now you throw in a brand new offense, add the injuries to Schwartz, Jennings, Cruz, OBJ, Jernigan, (even Wilson) and a sophomore slump for Pugh.... And you're surprised that the Offense has sputtered at times?

The D has been terrible and I have NEVER been a Fewell fan... But, Prince, Beason, McBride, Thurmond, DRC dinged, Jenkens dealing with injuries... Did any of us think Hosely would ever play for the Giants again in August?

There has been plenty of bad luck this year... Injuries and a few bad bounces early in the year killed this year.

I'd be this though... Switch out TC and Eli for Belichick and Peyton Manning and this team maybe wins one more game so far this year with the same set of circumstances.

The point is... You can't always crucify the coach and QB.

We have some cap room... We have some fat to trim. We need to draft better for sure.

IF we can get everyone back next year and healthy... Make the right moves to sure up the O-Line and LBs in FA and the draft and TC and Eli can certainly lead this team to make one more run. If you don't believe that... You're likely the same people that were eating crow in 2007 and 2011.

It's not the coach... It's not the QB... The guys on the field just aren't good. Especially the one's who are supposed to be protecting the QB and catching the passes.

see!? I'm already not sober..can't even type a quote box right..{hiccup}
I'm not so sure this team can't compete

if it's the same lineup that opened in Detroit.
We had too many injuries and lousy players last year
Bill in UT : 11/18/2014 2:29 pm : link
How did fixing that work out? Oh, but this year the same crew will do it better, lol. As to drafting a LB, I'm pretty sure there won't be one of sufficient value on the board when our spot comes up each round. Isn't that how it went with TEs last draft?
I meant to add plus the addition of OBJ

Sure, let's flush another season down the drain

And a year from now, we'll hear the same thing.

Why not just give Coughlin a contract that he can coach as long as he wants, and just throw accountability out the window.
Damon...we have two terrible coordinators and
MikeN in Ottawa : 11/18/2014 2:34 pm : link
lack depth. That's where we were doomed. That is partially on TC and mostly on Reese.

The Will Hill thing really hurt our D also. I agree though if we get Prince and Thurmond back healthy plus DRC we should be nuch better on D with a good coordinator.

Dallas' D is a bunch of no names including one guy who couldn't even make it to training camp with us. What does that say about our talent evaluation?

Too many questions on this team right now including the ability of the front office to find talent. A lot of people need to step up in this organization and it has to start with the front office and scouting staff.
It is hard to have quality depth with a Salary Cap
Headhunter : 11/18/2014 2:41 pm : link
you can get away with for a while ( see Mark Sanchez) but eventually the bottom of a roster will be exposed if they have to play regularly
Headhunter...quality depth comes from round 3
MikeN in Ottawa : 11/18/2014 2:57 pm : link
to round 7 in draft. Plus, we never do anything to pick up extra picks.

That's where we have fallen down...plus signing good FAs that don't cost much but fill roles like Kawika Mitchell at one point in time or Sam Madison.

This is where the front office has let us down.

At this stage in the season I agree. but, with most of those guys healthy I think we would have been talented enough to compete. As it is, I think this team has been maddeningly bad, but yet there are still 4 games that they could have or should have won.

I agree Damon

Aside from Pugh (toughness issues linger) who on the line is injured? During our losing streak we have been playing all 5 STARTERS. Beatty, Richburg, Walton, Jerry and Pugh. They've been terrible. I agree losing Cruz and Prince and even Jennings has been really tough. But the issues on the O-Line, where it starts and ends on offense, IMO has to do with the talent Reese assembled on the line.

the OL seems terribly managed doesn't it? Now with Schwartz, 11 guys on the roster. Meanwhile, as you've said, the same 5 have started every game. And they've regressed while doing it. Jennings dropped 176 one game, and the OL was good in pass protection during the win streek.

Are we really gonna go with 4 inactive OL from here forward? If Jerry/Pugh/Brown continue to fail, why can't we try something else? Shouldn't the coaches be responsible for developing these guys?

Why the regression?
Bold Ruler
Matt M. : 11/18/2014 7:15 pm : link
Where did I reference the OL specifically in that post? I was referring to the long list of injured players you referenced, plus some others. The only OL injury of note was Schwartz.

Hopefully this week the OL looks like this:
Beatty - Moseley - Richburg - Schwartz - Pugh (Brewer if he is hurt).

Brown should be cut and possibly Jerry as well.
MattM
aquidneck : 11/18/2014 7:23 pm : link
What about Mosley? Like Brewer, he hasn't started a game all season (has he even been active?) . If he's no good, maybe we should cut him? Or Reynolds. He's not contributing either. Same is true for Snyder.

Brown must be better than all those guys, no, or he wouldn't have been the one the coaches selected to go in the game last week.
why do we need 11 guys
aquidneck : 11/18/2014 7:27 pm : link
when only 7 are active on game day?

We clearly have options. If what we're doing is broken, why don't we try something else?

We've actually invested quite a bit in OL. Our coaches are not getting commensurate results.

blue42 : 11/18/2014 8:00 pm : link
the Ol....it's been bad for three years....the last two really bad, maybe the worst in all of football. That isn't the kind of talent you surround a 2 time SB champ you are paying 20 milion with. It's poor judgement to say the least.
The offense was broken last year...Mara said so. Gilbride took the fall. Gilbride told ESPN in the off season that the OL was no good and the backs were just as bad.Well you know what.....it's the same stuff this year. The owner and GM take the hit for that.

We have Manning and Beckham and?

I would have said JPP, Prince, DRC, Cruz.

JPP has been solid, Prince , DRC , Cruz very good but hurt.

SO it's Manning and Beckham?
JPP solid?
Josh in MD : 11/18/2014 8:53 pm : link
After 10 games he has, what 2 or 3 sacks? And he is never double teamed. Yes, he's been good against the run, but he's a DE, not DT. Among myriad other weaknesses, we have no pass rush. The reasons our D is last in the league start
with that.
My point is the holes that were glaringly obvious last year...
Damon : 11/18/2014 9:12 pm : link
Due to injury are present once again. But it's also irresponsible for anyone to blame TC and Eli when this was a two year rebuild... MINIMUM.

As for Depth? We thought we had a deep group of DBs... Then Will Hill did what Will Hill does. And our CBs started dropping like flies...

We weren't deep anywhere else.

In retrospect... if the guys we lost this year can come back healthy next year we may be able to get them a little cheaper... Prince, Thurmond... even Eli... Had he continued to put up great #s... I like the core of this team... We just need a new O-Line... some LBs and another WR.
Core? This team has a core?
Doomster : 11/18/2014 9:54 pm : link

If you don't re-sign Rolle for less money, who are your safety's? Who are your backups to the corners? Do you cut Beason, or take a chance on paying him 6M to walk the sidelines again? There are no linebackers on this team.....JPP goes to the highest bidder? Who are your DLmen? No depth at any defensive position...

The OL will be a shuffled patchwork next year, possibly Beatty-Pugh-Richburg-Schwartz-Free agent...that means 3 guys at different positions....how long will it take to gel? where is the depth? Donnell/Fells are free agents...another starting RB is needed......Think Cruz will be 100%? Randle needs to be replaced.....

Where is this so called core?
Who on this team is putting up numbers to warrant a monster contract?
Damon : 11/18/2014 11:55 pm : link
JPP, Prince, Rolle and Eli all have likely seen their price tags come down a bit this year....

Prince is not a FA.....Rolle will be looking for his last big contract.....JPP, may turn it on and flash for a couple of games at the end, and get a big offer we won't match....no way is Eli taking a pay cut with what the other QB's like Cutler are getting, but I don't think they try to sign him until after next season.....and then you have to factor in, do these guys want to return to this house of cards?
