Josh McDaniels?

15-1 for McAdoo
Matt M. : 11/18/2014 4:18 pm : link
Those odds are too slim for him. What has he done in 1 year for another team to invest their future in him as a HC?
Surprised
BigBlueCane : 11/18/2014 4:20 pm : link
Mangini isn't on that list.

Me too. If Coughlin goes I wouldn't be upset if he were the replacement. Those were his Jet teams that went to the AFC title games.
Some of those odds seem off
jcn56 : 11/18/2014 4:23 pm : link
why would the Bengals pick this year to dump Lewis? Seems like he's got a job for life. Similarly, is there any chance Trestman doesn't get fired?
Of the coordinator candidates
MookGiants : 11/18/2014 4:24 pm : link
I like Bowles and Pep Hamilton the most.

Bowles is a local guy too. From Elizabeth.

I would make a run at Harbaugh if he is walks away from 49ers.
I want no part of anyone who ever assisted Little Bill
Greg from LI : 11/18/2014 4:24 pm : link
Because it's become pretty clear that none of them were particularly important to the Patriots' success. Weis, Crennel, McDaniel, Mangini....miserable failures, all of them.
I'm leaning towards Dennis Quinn, if only because he's a local
jcn56 : 11/18/2014 4:26 pm : link
and a Giants fan from the Parcells years, so if they do continue to suck maybe he'd be compelled to come onto BBI and start a thread calling for his own firing.
Why would David Shaw
slickwilly : 11/18/2014 4:27 pm : link
even be in this conversation? He rode the Harbaugh recruiting wagon his first few years and now they suck.
It's not rational, but I think I need a break from any coach with the
Riggies : 11/18/2014 4:28 pm : link
last name 'Quinn' after recent years.
and christ, Greg Roman?
Greg from LI : 11/18/2014 4:35 pm : link
The Niners offense sucks.
...
adcliff : 11/18/2014 4:37 pm : link
Not many on that list jump off the page.
Where is
Exit 172 : 11/18/2014 4:37 pm : link
Fangio?
How is San Fran's OC on the list
Matt M. : 11/18/2014 4:37 pm : link
but not the DC?

As much as I would not like rooting for him, I would not be opposed to Harbaugh if he is let go.
And Rob Ryan?
Matt M. : 11/18/2014 4:38 pm : link
Really?
yeah, it's a fairly underwhelming list
Greg from LI : 11/18/2014 4:39 pm : link
Honestly, out of that group, the names I'd be most interested in are Harbaugh and, believe it or not, Jon Gruden.
Makes me think...
adcliff : 11/18/2014 4:40 pm : link
if a change is made it's more likely to be a returning ex assistant/ coordinator.
can
Les in TO : 11/18/2014 4:41 pm : link
anyone provide an informed opinion on the college candidates?
Greg
Matt M. : 11/18/2014 4:41 pm : link
Looking at that list should make a ton of people reconsider their strong desire to get rid of Coughlin, at least this year.

But, I like the same two guys. Jon Gruden may be annoying on MNF, but he was a pretty good coach in multiple stops with a very good mind for the game.
.
BigBlueHuricane : 11/18/2014 4:44 pm : link
No Vic Fangio?
I think McDaniels
pjcas18 : 11/18/2014 4:44 pm : link
deserves another shot.

He's 38 years old and though his first HC job was a failure, his QB's were Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow.

I like the way he adjusts the offense and uses the weapons at his disposal by putting them in position to succeed - for the most part.
Bowles just signed an extention I think he
bradshaw44 : 11/18/2014 4:45 pm : link
sticks with AZ at least one more year unless they win it all.
McDaniels WANTED Tebow
Mike in NY : 11/18/2014 4:46 pm : link
I also question whether he will actually care about the Defense (in other words opposite of Buddy Ryan)

There's zero chance Bowles turns down the Giants if they offer him the job.
Mike Nolan
pjcas18 : 11/18/2014 4:50 pm : link
was his DC.

I think he cares about the defense.

A lot of people wanted Tebow. I wouldn't make him the GM, but I think he could be good as a coach.
Absolutely ridiculous stuff there!
nicky43 : 11/18/2014 4:53 pm : link
Someone has been popping acid!
I didn't realize Bowles was from Elizabeth. Interesting.
MOOPS : 11/18/2014 4:55 pm : link
I think he'd jump at the job. Gruden also. Couldn't argue with either one.
Am I the only one
dep026 : 11/18/2014 4:56 pm : link
who wouldnt have a beef with Del Rio? I'd like a defensive mind. He had some good teams in Jax. Seems like he would be a pretty good fit for the Giants.
Del Rio wouldn't be a sexy pick
Greg from LI : 11/18/2014 4:57 pm : link
But I agree he's seemed like a pretty solid coach.
Mangini failed in part
BigBlueCane : 11/18/2014 4:58 pm : link
because the two franchises he was with were and are dumpster fires.
.
FStubbs : 11/18/2014 5:01 pm : link
So we replace Coughlin with Del Rio just like Jacksonville did? I'll pass ... that just give me the Heebee jeebees.

Mike Smith isn't getting fired if Atlanta backs into a division title and hosts a playoff game.

My dark horse for a firing is Jay Gruden.

If hiring Del Rio meant the same type of success as we did with Coughlin.... sign me up in a milisecond.

bradshaw44 : 11/18/2014 5:05 pm : link
I think he's saying that TC was fired by Jax and then they hired Del Rio. And they were nothing better than a middling team for his tenure.

I'm surprised with the 8-1 odds. I think he'd be a good choice for almost any team.
the question is
giantfanboy : 11/18/2014 5:07 pm : link
does Reese have any connection to anyone on the above list
Del Rio
pjcas18 : 11/18/2014 5:08 pm : link
is classic retread/safe pick. He doesn't have a track record of success as a head coach, but he knows the business, he's not a first time HC, and he's had no off-field issues/character concerns that I am aware of.

I can see the Giants hiring him, but I'd prefer a younger, more creative mind.

The Giants org has a very close connection with John Fox
jcn56 : 11/18/2014 5:11 pm : link
can't remember which of the books it was, but it was stated that they almost canned Fassel to keep Fox, but the SB in 2000 made it difficult to get rid of Fassel.

If Fox put in a good word for Del Rio, I could see them going that route. I'd rather they didn't, but I'm not doing the hiring.
I'd rather go with Todd Bowles
GMANinDC : 11/18/2014 5:24 pm : link
very aggressive DC in Arizona..considering what they lost on defesne and how they are still a force to deal with..
That'd be a weird coincidence
moespree : 11/18/2014 5:46 pm : link
If the Giants fired Coughlin and replaced him with Del Rio.
Funny
JoefromPa : 11/18/2014 5:49 pm : link
I have been thinking for years that Mangini would make a good coach. Never shared because I thought it wold be considered ludicrous on Bbi. Glad to see I m not alone.

clatterbuck : 11/18/2014 5:57 pm : link
all nicey-nice, he may, indeed, get fired so Snyder can go after Briles.
I like Bowles a lot as a DC
arcarsenal : 11/18/2014 6:08 pm : link
But there's a big difference between being a really good DC and a HC. See: Ryan, Rex.
Here's
blue42 : 11/18/2014 6:12 pm : link
A radical idea , hire a better gm who values offensive linemen and lb's.
Coughlin and Eli aren't the problem.

If Mara is serious about turning this around a new Gm is needed
Take a look at guys from Arizona, Seattle and SF.

The Broncos traded Cutler a full season before Tebow was ever drafted.

After Shanahan was fired, Cutler expressed his dissatisfaction and didn't want to play for the new coach, but yeah revisionist history is beautiful.

and yeah, trading Cutler looks asinine right now, doesn't it? The guy is a complete shit show with an awful contract.

Don't bother mentioning that it was McDaniels who drafted Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Knowshon Moreno, Perrish Cox, Robert Ayers, Zane Beadles, etc. in a whopping two drafts there.

Plus he was 33 years old.

Roman's a lousy OC

Interesting
Emil : 11/18/2014 6:41 pm : link
But to quote a famous pilot "never tell me the odds!"

I'm not in the "fire" Coughlin camp. This team has so many problems that no coach could be successful, but if you want to argue that 11 years is a long time in the NFL and it's time to move on then I think you bring in Bowles (DC Arizona) contingent upon keeping MacAdoo.
I like the idea of Bowles
Fort Mill Mike : 11/18/2014 6:43 pm : link
He played in the league, won a ring and is contending to win one as a DC. He's been around long enough on all levels that I can't imagine he couldn't transition from DC to HC with minimal issues.

That said, I hope Tom Coughlin is still the coach next season, with an improved OL and other roster upgrades.
