Nashville Recommendations

NYGmen58 : 11/19/2014 10:40 am
I will be at the Titans game in a few weeks with an old friend and it will be both of our first time in Nashville. We will be staying close to the Vanderbilt campus and from what I understand, it's a pretty small city and everything is fairly close to the downtown area.

With that said, we are looking for advice on the best places to eat (both fine dining/haute cuisine as well as BBQ and other great casual eateries) and drink/go out at night. What are the best bars? Any places have good live music?

Also, what other attractions should we plan to visit while we're there? We are both big into history so any historical sites or Civil War museums/battlefield are nearby?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like quite a few BBIers will be down in Nashville for the game

I'll be heading down with 5 guys also. Is there any interest in getting together for tailgating?

Potentially. Remember it's a noon game so unless you're planning on getting there really early to set up, there's not a whole lot of time for a "tailgate".

What I would like is to have postgame get together at a bar/restaurant for some beers, eats, and viewing of the later games.
Go to the Opry!

Book your tix online and take the Ryman Auditorium tour. Also, I highly reccomend the County Music Hall of Fame and Museum. For a few bucks extra, you can take a bus to Studio B and catch that tour. It's pretty cool.
this might give you a few ideas...

I was there with my wife about a month ago...lots of things always going on...spend Saturday night going in and out of the bars, shops, etc. on Broadway, which aren't far from the Vanderbilt area...and just beyond that area is the stadium...

What about strip clubs, go-go bars, cabarets, etc.

I was just there like 2 weeks ago for a Vandy game. the two places I went that weren't bars with country music that me and my gf liked were Pucketts and 417 Union (name of the place and also the address). Both places aren't near Vandy, but you can walk from either of them to the titans stadium just across the bridge. I thought the food was great at both places. I didn't go to any sports bars so I don't know where to send you there, but plenty of places to drink.
I really enjoyed South Street

about 1/2 mile from the Vandy campus. It's kind of a hip "Southern Urban" bar/restaurant with a great bar and good bbq, pulled pork, catfish and fried pickles. I was only in Nashville for 3 days and I think we went there twice.
Vandy isn't that close to downtown,

certainly not within walking distance. 2 restaurants near Vandy that I would recommend are Stoney River and Rotier's. Downtown, Merchants is a favorite of mine. Upstairs is fine dining, and a little expensive, but the tavern downstairs is fun, too.

Lastly, the Stockyard is a great steakhouse outside of downtown.
Even if you're not a country fan

(I'm not), the Country HOF is really cool and definitely worth a visit. Lots of bars along Broadway and 4th Ave. It's a fun town, enjoy.
