I wouldn't. I doubt Tom Condon will take a discount. If I am Eli, I am making sure what the plan is. Is Coughlin coming back? Are we going to fix the OL? How about talent at WR and TE? If it's a shit show, then, I wouldn't re-sign.

Hey...unless Abby is bringing in $40+ million a year, I doubt that you can compare Eli's situation to Brady's. I mean, Eli is the sole breadwinner, so he has to keep food on the table, you know.

You bring up a good point. I wonder if Reese and Coughlin (if they are kept) will bring Eli in to talk about what plans they have in improving the team, so that they can give him a warm and fuzzy on possibly taking a more team friendly deal (since I doubt Eli really needs the money).

Signing Eli to a cap friendly..
Sean : 11/19/2014 3:27 pm : link
4-5 year extension is a step towards turning around the program here.

Eli doesn't need to be Rodgers, Brady, Peyton, or Luck. He is a Super Bowl caliber QB and with protection he is surgical.

We could spend a decade finding anyone who is even close to Eli. The NFL is far more year to year than a lot of you think.
.
arcarsenal : 11/19/2014 3:32 pm : link
I'd love to see this team succeed again with Eli under center. Eli isn't what I am worried about, though. I am worried about the fact we've got a lot of holes to fill and barely any depth and think it's going to take a couple years to put a legitimately good team around him. And at that point, who knows what he's going to still have in the tank.

I think he can still play for a bit but we don't have forever here.
even if you are on the fence about re-signing Eli
djm : 11/19/2014 3:33 pm : link
and you shouldn't be, but let's say you're on the fence, you should want Eli to stay here with the Giants just for the small chance to see Eli do something hilariously magical with NYG one more time.

The guy has been written off so many times now and TWICE he shit all over the NFL. Why can't he do it again 2-3 years from now? OR even next year? He's done it twice. HE can do it again. To me, it's worth the risk just to take one more shot at it with #10. IF he ever won another chip here with the Giants it would be fucking hilarious and so awesome.

We have to keep this guy long term. The potential for gold is too great to ignore. He's got his flaws but he's a known commodity. When the team is built capably, Eli delivers. Re-sign him and build the OL and offense around him.

I've lived through enough crap QB's on this team over my 52 years that I personally hope that the Giants sign Eli to an extension, and Nassib never gets on the field for the Giants while Eli is here, other than in a cleanup role. As far as I'm concerned, that's the best chance the Giants have at getting back to the big game in the next 4-5 years in regards to the QB position on the team.

I love Eli and he's had some magical moments and his 2011 was a legitimately great season from start to finish.

But he's not as good as his brother.. or Rodgers.. or Luck.. or Brady. He's just not. And that's ok. It doesn't have to mean Eli sucks.

He's one of the most polarizing, enigmatic figures to ever play the sport. And he's a 2x SB MVP and Champion which no one can ever take away from him. But as far as elite, upper echelon QB's go in this league right now.. he is not one of them.

I'll never forget his very first appearance on Football Night in America on NBC. Dan Patrick no sooner introduced Tiki, when Tiki jumped in with, "...to provide the intellectual point of view!"

Patrick just looked at him for a beat, like, "ok...whatever..."

There are three other guys at the desk with you. But right off the bat, you're gonna make sure that everyone knows the "intellectual" point of view is coming from YOU. Way to make friends, there, Tiki.

I can't buy what Gannon is selling. Here's what hasn't changed from last year- this team isn't going to win unless the quarterback takes it upon himself to win virtually every game.

This is not just an isolated opinion...

Quote:
What hes doing with nothing around him is a miracle, said one NFC personnel executive. (Injuries) took away the only guy they had that scared you (Victor Cruz) and his best running back. The only reason they move the ball at all, it seems, is because of him.

There's a difference between mobility and escapability. Eli's escapability is excellent as attested by his 160 consecutive starts. His mobility is lousy- but that's true of other successful quarterbacks as well.

Any quarterback would lose confidence behind this OL and its hard to make good decisions or throw an accurate deep ball when you're running for your life on virtually every passing down.

The year's offense has changed but the lack of running game coupled with a porous OL means that we're likely to get the same result as last years offense more often than not.

Eli Manning is having a good season so far, even if NY Giants are not - ( New Window )

I can't blame Eli for anything right now. With the hopeless Oline, Eli the gunslinger is trying his best to score, somehow, some way. That's where the INTs come from. He's a guy who HATES losing as much as we do.

The Oline is the worst unit the team last year and this year. I wish I had an Oline F/A list because we need to get 2 very good FA linemen. Then draft another one high.

Hey, no one wants him to go anywhere at all. But why would Oakland be a bad landing spot for a NY fan? It should be almost ideal. I mean, I am biased as I was born in Mountain View, just outside of S.F. and Oakland, but they are in the other conference and as far from NY as you can get other than Seattle or San Diego. How did Reese "screw up the draft" ?

We got a stud WR in the 1st rd, our future C in the 2nd, a DT with potential in the 3rd... Kennard could turn out to be solid.. Berhe will still get his chance.

We haven't had the best drafts in recent years but we hit a HR in round 1 this year and probably the guy who can anchor this OL in the middle for the next decade in round 2.

It's also 10 games into these guys careers. Hard to make a definitive statement either way that soon anyway
It's also not Reese's fault that we lost Thurmond after 1 1/2 games..

Dragon : 11/20/2014 2:32 am : link
If we only have Eli and OBJ then this team is truly in rebuild mode. Eli will be 34 in January no one can call him someone you want to build a franchise around at this point due to his overall body of work. Is it worth paying a middle of the pack old QB 18-20+ mill when your team is not very good. He is going to cost big money to extend and his limited physical skills are not going to get better they will only get worst. Yes we would love for him to remain a Giant forever but can this team contend in the next two years with a somewhat proven base of only two players not likely.

Fate has been more than kind to us with Eli two SB wins and almost no injury history but the Gods are fickle. Seems like once we sign a player to long term extension the injury bug bites him. The only player that has been able to beat this injury bug has been Eli in the past 6-7 years. If you look around the league how many players are producing after signing long term big money extension and remain injury free that list would be very short.

I will be honest we all had high hopes prior to the start of the season with the exception of the passing game on offense. We could run the ball and play solid defense now we can't begin to know what this team can or can't do on offense or defense. The injury status hurts but it's the unknown elements this team brings to the playing field weekly which drives me/us crazy. It's not a playoff worthy team and playing for pride is BS to me if we are going to rebuild then it's best to put yourself in the best position to rebuild as quickly as possible.

The rebuild process begins with seeing what we have in Nassib, then we decide should we move on from Eli, trade Nassib or Eli. JPP is not a player we can't replace sad to say but it's the truth more than 4-5 mil for a run stopping DE is a waste of money. Our secondary looks like another draft/FA's priority for CB's and safety. Rolle is another player who is not irreplaceable but his leaving does leave the backend empty. Everybody wants Williams gone at LB lets give them what they want but sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone. So that leaves Kennard, McClain and Anderson that's a it, Beason comes with buyer beware warning. Washington it seems is another guy who will remain a secret along with Moore, Robinson, Mosley, Bromley, Wynn, and Herman. So yes this team is a long way from contending why not find out what you have to build the future on now.

no one was bitching about Eli until this past game.

We have Eli, Beckham, and that's about it.

We have the #32 defense. No OL. And nothing else.

That's a pretty nice way to sum it up. That's what I'll remember when looking back at this season.
