NFT: Android advice

So like two years ago, my wife and I are eligible for new phones with Verizon in time for Black Friday. We both currently have the Galaxy S3, which I got for 96 cents each on Black Friday 2012.

I'm deciding between the Galaxy S5 and the LG G3. Both are on sale at Best Buy for Black Friday. It sounds like the deals will also be available on BestBuy.com on Thanksgiving, so I could get the deal without sacrificing my holiday. If those deals aren't available, I default to a rebate deal for the S5 with Sam's Club, which isn't open on the holiday.

So which should I get, the Galaxy S5 and the LG G3?

A few important points:

1. Not interested in an iPhone, thank you very much. I have my iPad, so I feel like I have the best of both worlds. Plus I like rooting (S3 is rooted) and jailbreaking (iPad is jailbroken), but you can do more with rooting.

2. I had my S3 rooted within 4 hours of getting it two years ago. Since then, Samsung has made it much more difficult and restrictive to root their devices and install a custom OS. Anyone have a rooted S5? Was it needlessly difficult? Does Knox and the locked bootloader hinder what you can do with it? How are the various options for custom OSs?
I have the LG
