Said it should have been goalie interference after all.
Still bothers me. Anyway, sorry if someone posted this, but I did not see it and I thought my fellow Rangers fans would be equally angry that the NHL blew such an obvious goalie interference.
Is it goalie interference? Sure looks like it.
Is it this massive, egregious error? No.
MarshallOnMontana says a lot I disagree with, but one thing that I think he's spot on with and one of my biggest things in sports is... There is nothing more futile than bitching about officiating, across all sports. Some go your way, some go the other way, and while this was a big call obviously given the circumstance, I've seen FAR shittier calls (and non-calls) over the years.
It was a pretty obvious mistake in a crucial situation. It's not like missing too many men - or incorrectly thinking a puck deflected off of a stick when a defenseman shot it over the boards in his own zone (which happened in game 1 in OT).
Further, it's such a correctable mistake. Make the goal reviewable.

Brett, totally agree on making it reviewable, but the call isn't as obvious to me (though ultimately I do agree it was interference). You could rule the Rangers forced him in and there wasn't a ton of contact to begin with.
I remember watching it live with 3 rangers fans and none of them were bitching until they saw the replay. Point being, it wasn't "obvious" to me.
MetsAreBack, I'm a hockey fan and live in New York. This was also a big talking point both here and in my personal life. I'm agreeing it was a bad call and said as much at the time. I just think it's silly to start blaming the series loss on this one call (no one here is doing it, but some have). Even if you're like "Well it changed the series!" that's too much, IMO.
I'm not sure why it's an issue for me to post on a very big call in (what is tied for) my favorite sport.

Well I've long said if you lose in 5, you cant blame the refs. You can blame the tight Rangers sticks in almost 4 full periods of OT that couldnt produce one lousy goal, but not the refs.
With that said, IF the right call is made the Rangers go home 1-1 instead of down 0-2.... you dont think that was a major fucking break for LA? Obviously it was.
Damnit... i still think that was this team's shot. Hope i'm wrong but ton of good teams in the East this year, going to be exceptionally difficult to ever get back their with this core group. Even Cindy hasnt been back in almost what 5 years now?
Says the guy who posts on multiple Islander threads to remind us how many backup goalies the Islanders have faced. Must be quit an obsession to track that sort of stat for a team that you don't even root for.
isn't this call reviewable anyway? NHL should fix that.
Ranger fans have a right to be pissed off about this. Don't think it would've changed the ultimate result of the series but it's hard enough to play the Kings when you aren't getting bad ref luck.
you're reaching. I posted that one time 8 games into the season. Awfully difficult to figure out that in the first 8 games, you faced 4 backups. Big deal.
Anyway, Islanders and Rangers fans give each other shit on this board. News at 11.

Of course it's a huge deal, but even now looking at that GIF, I don't think it was an egregious fuck up. I honestly think it could go either way and I'm surprised the NHL decided to out themselves on it. You could easily argue the Ranger had a hand and forcing the King into Hank.
Again, I am not making this argument. I see goalie interference and I agree with Rangers fans on this. I'm merely saying it wasn't an absurdly bad non-call.
Look at the initial bump from the Ranger at the beginning of the GIF. You don't think that influenced the King's path into Hank? C'mon, man.
Even assuming that's true (and relevant) for a team that has had a variety of legitimate goals waved off for far less (such as the "goalie couldn't do his job" farce against the Penguins last week) it's infuriating that this was allowed to stand.
The rationale given by the official WASN'T that McDonagh forced King into Hank, it was that the puck was in the net before the interference took place - which is absolute bullshit.

rsjem... no argument on that last paragraph. Totally agree. The rationale was the worst part of the call, not the obviousness of the interference.
Regarding the first paragraph, I can't attest to your goals waved off amount. Don't watch the Rangers enough.
I'm not here to try to piss off Rangers fans. Ultimately I agree with you. I just find whining about it to be ridiculous and blaming the series on 1 bad call even worse (again, not that you or any of the other posts on this thread are).
So if no one is doing that (blaming entire series on one call)...
This topic only came up again... because the NHL for some reason decided in November of the next regular season to finally admit what the rest of us knew for 6 months.
I knew that was goalie interference the second I saw it
this may not go over well on here, but have you been on a Rangers sports team, any sport, any city's thread and not seen whining about the refs. Ever? Which is truly shocking because fans being short for fanatics are almost always even-keeled
Oh and who are you kidding that you are only on there for Habs threads? We must look stupid to you. Dont answer that.
but this notion that you only drop by for Habs games... give me a break.
Anyway, all teams fans complain about officiating, including your fellow Habs fans. Obviously. Focusing on Rangers and Yankees fans because you dont personally care for those teams... childish.
oh please....no one's blaming the series on one call
What we've consistently said is that the Kings were the better team, and getting jobbed like this made it virtually impossible to have a chance to upset them.
... sometimes go a little over the top, but go drop in on a Giants thread when we're a competitive team and take a step back and tell me how you'd view that from an opposite team's fan perspective?
Its not like ExtremeSkins, Igglesfans, and whatever the fuck site the Habs have would be any different (and the Habs for years have drawn a lot more penalties than they've taken... i'm not opining on refereeing, i'm just pointing to the cold hard PIM numbers which favor the Habs)
What exactly is my place? Am I to not ever to comment on crybaby rag threads when you guys routinely shit on us in our threads? You guys lost. Get over it. I agree on one thing. Last year was your chance. Too bad you blew it.

I suppose you're right. The difference is, the vast majority of the lunatics posting that shit on the Giants game threads are people who don't exist on this board beyond ranting and raving there.
With the Rangers threads, most of you guys are solid contributors, knowledgeable fans and decent people (except Greg), and the bitching is incongruous with what you'd expect.

Fuck the Kings.
Really? Typical NHL, no credibility and botches their own rules on the biggest stage.
Is it goalie interference? Sure looks like it.

happens in the NFL a lot too.
waste of time.

Why come out and say this now unless they just really want to piss off Rangers fans?
actually, I'm not sure why they did say anything now, not sure what it accomplishes other than to piss off Rangers fans.
While I do think the wrong call was made, I also do think there was the grey area you alluded to, which is why I share your surprise.
That's why I'm more annoyed at this than the call on Zucc in game 5. This call should have been taken out of the refs hands.
This topic only came up again... because the NHL for some reason decided in November of the next regular season to finally admit what the rest of us knew for 6 months.
I only go on Rangers threads if they play the Canadiens or maybe a playoff game, so my sample is somewhat limited, but it's consistent.
It's like being on a Yankees thread.
MetsAreBack : 10:19 am : link : reply
why do you keep mentioning it?
See pjcas' most recent post. No offense, but you guys don't have the most level-headed reputation. I didn't want to say it, but since you asked....
Oh and who are you kidding that you are only on there for Habs threads? We must look stupid to you. Dont answer that.
why would I make that up?

Same. Anak is the ringleader with that shit. Rangers, Giants, you name it.

Giants thread are the worst. Agree on that, but I don't post on them or even read them - for years.
I have. Good kid, but he wears his heart on his sleeve and heart and brain sometimes dont talk to each other first :)

I already arranged to be put in a home at 30 - as it should be.
